  1. Pete Rose was the best baseball player I ever saw play. I hated him because I was an Astro fan, and he killed the 'stros; nevertheless, he was still the best. If you go to Cooperstown during induction weekend, you will see fans wearing shirts and hats that ask "Where's Pete?" I guess its a political thing, and my opinion doesn't matter. Kinda like PhatMack, I can't believe we are still talking this after 20 years.
  2. Dont think for one minute that High School Football isnt all business. Its fun for the fans, but ask any coach. Doesnt matter how swell a guy he is, if he isnt winning, he wont be coaching! Down the road, they only count wins and losses. I don't think playing weak opponents prepares you for a tough district or conference as much as playing quality team, but that may or may not matter. As BmtSoulja said, the kids can only play who is on their schedule. Lets quit knocking them for it.

  4. Crosby has a good quarterback, but he needs a little help. PNG did a lot more right this week. I hope (and expect) the improvement will continue.
  5. I agree baddog. 20-4a is as competitive as it gets this year. As a PNG fan, I wish Vidor the best of luck. This group will be in the playoffs.
  6. Majestyk, I've missed your posts. Good to see you on here! By the way, Happy Birthday!
  7. I'm glad to hear the prognosis for Kirby is good. A couple of folks questioned Kirby playing football. As talented as he is on the baseball diamond, lets not forget he was arguably the best (and the most talked about) QB in 20-4A. What kind of athelete wouldn't want to hold the reins to a team like the Bulldogs? I don't blame him one bit. I hope him the best in recovery. I do regret not getting to see him play this year, especially for Mid County Madness! Good luck to you Kirby! We'll see you this spring.
  8. Defensive struggle and low scoring game. BH wins this one unless Lumberton contains the QB. BH 20 Lumberton 14
  9. C'mot texans, pay attention! If you read this board AT ALL last year, you'd know the PNG faithful were ready for a change. Coach Faircloth has come in and made wholesale changes. Before they played the first game, I new we had the right man for the job. This guy has been at every school event and has been a positive influence all the way around. He has not only motivated the players, but the students and fans. He has been a sucess at every level he has coached and came with ringing endorsements. There is more excitement at the Reservation now than has been here in years. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come.
  10. BH looks like a very good team. I'm glad we saw them in week 0. The Indians didn't have a lot of sucess trying to run on these guys. Several plays I saw 11 guys in the pile before the whistle blew. The BH QB is a monster. When he settles down a little bit and picks his targets better they will be hard to stop. Good luck in 19-4A.
  11. I'm an old Bear grad and am pulling for them, but lets get real. WOS had no problem with Nederland, they will have less problem with LCM. The Bears might put 14 points on the board if they are lucky. WOS could hang half a hundred on them without a problem. WOS by a landslide. I hope I'm wrong. GO BEARS!
  12. We've got home field advantage, but playing a very good Crosby team. I'll make a homer pick and take PNG in another close game.
  13. I dont see what all the fuss is about unless somebody just wants to stir folks up. As I said in another thread, PNG looked ok for a first game. They've got lots to work on, but show me a team that doesn't. The positives I saw was the kids playing with a lot of heart. They were making good open-field tackles that they were missing last year. The defensive secondary looked great! Everything else needs some work. If Coach Faircloth doesn't win another game, he's got my support. This is a very different looking team than we saw last year. I'm still a Matt Burnett fan, but I'm really glad we made this change. The school board got the right guy in Brandon Faircloth. Its week 0 guys, give them a chance!
  14. Whatever the injury is, I hope he recovers well. Kirby may well be the premier player in 20-4 a district. I was really looking forward to seeing him showcase his talents. Most important is that he is OK and heals well. Good Luck Kirby! Home to see you under center at MCM!
  15. Lets all remember this is the first game. I'd hate to play Barbers Hill later in the season when they are hitting on all cylinders. They have some tremendous athletes and very easily could've whipped PNG last night. The Indians have a lot to work on this week. I believe we'll see better football each week as will the BH fans. The refs let 'em play rough for 3 quarters and then got picky at the end. It's their first week too. The Indians played with a lot of heart last night, with great effort from lots of the kids. Best Indian secondary I've seen in years. Good open field tackling that was missing last year. Dre Dunbar was Superman last night. Sorry about the parking. It sucks. Its kinda like playing at Nederland. No place for anybody to park! Hopefully it will be better next year when construction is completed. The new look Reservation is fantastic! Fabulous experience for a high school football game. Anybody saying otherwise is just jealous. Looking forward to Crosby Friday night.
  16. Nice post. I do hope y'all bring a crowd to the rez. We'll all get to see a new look for the Indians and a good ball game all the way around.
  17. I predict PNG would win hands down! ;D What the heck! Its not even week 0 in 2009 and everybody has it allfigured out! I'll be happy to see Friday night come so at least SOME of the trash talk will have merit!
  18. A HLS&R Safety Officer told me last year, prior to the Rodeo, that the Houston Fire Marshall condemned the Astrodome as it was no longer up to the fire code. Didn't confirm this, but remembered thinking this smells political.
  19. Bigdog, I and history will agree with you. The 'stros will set you up for heartbreak almost every year. I've even heard Milo talk in the past about the "September swoon". Drayton only wants a winner if he can do it on a tight budget. Every now and then he'll get exited and trade off a bunch of prospect for a glimmer of hope, but once that fails, he back to pinching pennys. I can't help it... I'm still a fan. I just won't put money in McLane's pocket until he puts forth a good product.
  20. I heard they were bringing in the Pittsburgh Steelers...PNG faithful have Steelers favored by 2 1/2 I believe. I know you are kidding, because the PNG faithful would NEVER concede 2 1/2 even to the Steelers! ;D
  21. I was thinking about it this morning. Gotta work though. Let us know how the Indians practice goes. Kinda funny, but the Indian band started practice last week! ;D
  22. NOOOOOOOO! No more "Bojo" No more "Bear Family" No more "Bear Fever" Let 'em be the "Battlin Bears" and get on with it!
