  1. Wow! Some serious talking going on in this thread!!!  I realize football is important, but remember its just kids out there doing there best.  Whoever wins, whoever loses, it wont affect the district race for either.  it may however, make each team better prepared for district.  It will be a bruising, physical game.  Hopefully no one will get injured.  Both teams need everyone ready when they start there district games.  having said all that, i think whoever wins it will be by 10 or less points.

    Good luck to both schools.

Did the cutoff for 5A used to be much lower or has WOS lost that many students?  If so, why the exodus?

The latter.  Simply, no jobs.  Throughout Orange's growth and into the early '80s Orange has a couple of large ship building companies, Levingston and American Bridge which employed thousands.  By the end of 1985, I believe the two companies combined had a payroll of less than 200/  Combine this with the fact that plants along "Chemical Row" have been reducing staff, usually through attrition, Orange is not the best place to find a job.

That's the absolute truth!! I been looking for a job for nearly a year with no luck.  Finally decided to go to LIT full time for Instrumentation.

Thanks for bringing back some great memories of other great games!
  3. Not considering myself an "old timer", but who all on here rememembers some of the old WOS-PNG battles?  For some reason 2 game come to my mind right away.  (1) Final game of the 79 season, the Indians come visiting at then Mustang Stadium, winner will take the 22-5a district title.  had a standing room only crowd there. Game was a nail biter. Think WOS won something like 26 to 21.  PNG had the ball for the final drive and drove it down to about the WOS 20. Last 2 plays of the game were passes into the end zone which had one of them connected would have won the game for PNG. Both passes were defended and WOS walked away with there 1st ever district crown. (2) Believe it was 86 or 87 again in Mustang Stadium, another nail biter, this one low scoring.  WOS finally pulled a little bit away in the 4th qtr and won something like 14-3.

I'm sure there are plenty others, just these 2 are what stays in my memory.  Post up any that stick out on yours.
  4. He was correct about them playing from 01-03, but he was not correct about the score. It was def 21-20 in favor of WO-S. That was the game that PNG tied just before halftime and instead of pouch kicking, decided to kick it deep and Kerry Franks Jr returned it 90 something yards for a TD. The 14-13 game was in 92 or 93. WO-S scored at the end of the game and went for 2 and didn't make it.

I was home on leave from the service and was at that 92 game. Also the last time I saw Wos and Png play. Man that sure doesn't seem like 20 years ago!!!  I'll be there this friday though. Wasn't that the year Wos had to forfeit about 6 or 7 games?

Great season Mustangs.  I hope we can have all your support from here on out to try and get us to Dallas.  I'm glad were in the same area and enjoy playing y'all.  I really appreciate the humbleness by you all.  I think after tonight we have been accepted.

No doubt you will our support.
  6. Congrats WO-S on another great season.  You have nothing to hang your heads about.  Making it to the 4th round is no easy accomplishment.  There were many who thought early in the season you would never make it this far and you all proved them wrong.

Congrats also to Coldspring.  Your defense proved to be everything it was billed and your offense especially your running game proved to be unstoppable.  Good luck the rest of the way and I hope you take home the state trophy.
  7. Been wanting to ask this since last week game against Central but just now having the time to ask...Was LCM RB Sezar injured some last week.  I think he only carried the ball 5 or 6 times the entire game.  I realize every school they play keys on him, but you would think he would still get more carries than that.  Sooner or later he's bound to break one.  In contrast, Centrals main RB (can't remember his name) had over 30 carries for nearly 200 yards.  He got better and stronger as the game went on.  Just wondering...

Maybe because the Jags 'D' are containing their run game?
    [/quote]

I wouldn't agree with that completly.  When its late in the 3rd qtr and Sezar only has 3 carries i wouldn't say the defense is the reason.  Jags D have done a good job, but i would figure in a close game like this you would run your big horse more.  Sooner or later he will break one.
