I'm sure coaching or lack of coaching does has some effect, BUT It's all about the discipline and willingness of the athletes to be coached and the devotion to the TEAM (not the ME).
right on -
can you give me a number of D1, D2 and Juco kids that will sign this year from each school?
No i can't but im sure someone can..... -
Well look at it this way..... how many teams in District 20-4A even HAVE a State APPEARANCE let alone a State Title? Two...Ozen and Central, with only Ozen winning a state championship...OK, in the ENTIRE Golden Triangle in the last 20 years? How many schools have won a title? 4...Ozen, HJ, Kountze, and Evadale...They aren't GIVING state titles away, man....They are very hard to come by...Nederland has done very well under Coach E., but to expect a state title out of them is a bit much...Not saying that it will NEVER happen, but look at the number of schools in this area over the last 20-25 years that HAVE...FOUR schools...They are not easy to come by my friend. You can say the same thing about basketball as far as "coaching goes" when it comes to beaumont schools or at least a majority of them. Beaumont basketball wins consistently in district with not so good coaching, why can't football be the same? -
When did this turn into a Nederland vs Beaumont thing? West Brook and Central had nothing to do with Nederland losing to Ozen...
Im not saying the other schools have anything with ned losing to ozen... hats off to Ozen. And yes my post was off the subject/title of this post. But i was just responding to other posts about freshmen and junior high kids. think about it How is Nederland able to compete and sometimes beat these beaumont schools? Is it because of Coach Es work or the lack of coach/teaching at the beaumont schools? or maybe a combination of the two.... Do we really need to compare the talent and athleticism of the two areas, its a pretty clear answer......beaumont is far superior in those qualities as a whole than nederland.....

I don't have a dog in the fight the truth: Beaumont will always have superior athletic ability as a whole over Nederland. Beaumont Middle Schools are split among 3 public High Schools and several other private schools. Nederland has one high school. Nederland players predominately stay together thru Middle school to High School Beaumont players do not. Nederland is able to compete because there is more unity and they have a head coach that out coaches the coaches in that district No im not saying that the beaumont coaches can't coach, but with the talent they have in that area the beaumont schools should be heads above Nederland or any other team in that district. I see the talent on the junior high level for beaumont year in and year out. Coach English is teaching his players and the players get it. Beaumont coaches seem to use the invidual raw talent/athletic ability as a cruch when it comes to their coaching/teaching a team . Coach English can't afford to do that or they would not be competitive.

yall play into these rankings too much. Lumberton was ranked earlier in the year and i told them they we're not a top 25 4A team in texas and they got their panties in a knot. Now vidor may or maynot be ranked, they're a good team, but IMO they're not a top 25 4A team in Texas. Parents are emotionally attached and can't see the team for what it really is. All that ranking is good for is to get your school some recognition. It means nothing in the great scheme of things...get to the playoffs make a run try to win a state championship.

You ave a really good player standing 5'11". You have another player at 6'8" that can do the SAME THING and I'll guarantee you the D-1 college will go after the taller kid. They don't want to say this, but this is true since you can NEVER teach height...
I saw a 6'7" (2014) kid playing point guard for a team in NY. He has the size and skill set to play guard. H e will have no problem being recruited. But, there is a market for small guards who can shoot, create their own shots and play some defense. You very seldom see bigger guards posting on the smaller guards in college...hmmmm? I wonder why?
The game has definitely changed.
I've been preaching the same thing about the weight room. Basketball has become more physical than finesse. His ball handling skills are as good as anyone in our area. He played point last year, but is playing the '2' this year. He doesn't have the explosiveness to play PG at a D1 school, IMO. He's a shooter though, and that's why he's getting a lot of looks. He's aggressive on offense, but he need to step up his defensive aggression. If he were better physically developed, that would definitely help.
If your playing a guard position there is always room for improvement in the ball handling area.....as a freshmen coming in you ve got to be ready because those upper classmen are not going to let you just come in and take one of their spots....you're going to have to earn it. so he will need to continuously work on every aspect of his game leading up to enrolling in college. can't be rusty. Gotta be able to take the bumps and handchecks and still handle ball efficiently with eyes up His best friend after the season should be the weightroom

Weisbrod...is not D1 talent sorry I like watching him play and he's a good high school player, he has a post mentallity with guard size.....that doesn't translate to D1 unless he can play guard on that level and IMO he doesn't have the skill set to do that. He could get a look just based on Coach English's connections Jordan Hunter has potential....he has basketball IQ along with basketball talent....his size is his down side, but he plays guard so that doesn't play as much of a factor as does the size of a big man. It all comes down to can he defend a bigger guard. Jared Hunter....possibly D1 potential but not likely....his size hurts him. For someone his size he has to be LEGIT in order to play D1. I had a college teammate that was his size so im not saying its not possible, but the percentages are against him. Pearson has potential...but he really needs to put in more footwork and quickness training along with handling the ball. He's still young so he may grow more, but if he doesn't he'll be a guard or possibly small forward on the next level. The experience he is getting this young will help with confidence. He seems very hungry, at thats a good quality the others i haven't seen play enough

can't go by rankings....either way.... it comes down to matchups and styles of play
