Wesley hit his Free Throws!!! Looks like he is trying to develop an outside game. At 6'9" he could be a real matchup problem outside in a couple of years. Mathis looked like that three point threat we have been missing. I know it was Lyon College, but he was hitting from four feet beyond the arc, most teams don't gaurd out that far and if they do it will help your inside game!
Thought I would check in and see the flava of the thread. I see there are still some believers out there. I hope you are right. Oh and in real basketball a guy like Miles isn't a PG nor SG. The kid can't carry the team with his skills and size.
::) -
They have home games against SHSU, UTSA and TAMU-CC. They need to win 2 of 3.
Don't see them beating both SH and TAMCC, but if they play defense like they did against SFA, they could win one of those.
They have road games at Texas State, NW State, UTA and Nicholls State. They should win at least 2 of those games.
Saying LU should win any road games at this point is ridiculous. Gotta win more than one on the road to start counting future road wins! I say LU goes 3-4 down the stretch (after Lyon) and finishes 17-15 (8-8) getting a 6 seed and facing TAMCC in a one and done SLC tournament because we really don't have an outside threat. Overall 17-16. Which is a very good year for a young and improving team. Gotta get a 40+% guy from downtown.

A lot of gaurds played PG in HS because they were the best ball handlers on the team, but most are actually 2's at the next level. Minor probably falls in that category. He will never play PG for us. He is way to valuable on the defensive side of the ball. He is our Bruce Bowen! Put him on their best perimiter scorring threat. He also will knock down a few treys for ya like Bowen (just doesn't have Bowens size). His defensive intensity is contageuous. -
Best High School Basketball game??
badndn replied to UncleDrew's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Haven't seen alot of HS BB games, but saw SFA and HJ battle at Lamar in '95 or '96 (not sure). HJ had Jason Throp (sp?) and Spears SFA had Tobias Deans and company. HJ won a barn burner with each team scoring over 100. Fun game to watch. Maybe you HJ fans can fill in the blanks on this one. -
I think 14 points and 12 rebounds (7 big off rebounds) out of our Centers (Nwevo & Custer) was very big. Also, Nabors worked harder than any Cardinal in years down low at getting position and making things happen (drew a lot of fouls). Great game from our Senior leader!

Add Center Harris and SF Smith to that bunch
Mffl, did someone in the athletic department tell you this? I have noticed that he's not on the Westwind Prep roster where he's supposedly playing this year. I'm guessing he's still having citizenship issues.
Just taking a guess, we already have 4 commits, with Kyser, Lynch, Smith, and Harris. I think it seems unlikely that we will carry 6 PG's on the roster next year (Miles, Minor, Garza, Lynch, and Lopez). I could be wrong though.
Miles, Minor and Lynch are not PG's. They are 2's. Miles is playing the point out of necessity. Is Harris a walk-on or scholly next year? Losing three seniors and gaining a scholarship we lost from academic violations a few years back (??). Also a few players on non-BB scholly (Custer, Lopez). -
Crosby Vs. Montgomery week Zero.....Nice!!!!

Everything begins and ends with the Hogs up front! I have always felt like the best returning teams are usually those that return their OLines and DLines. If you can protect the QB and put pressure on the QB/RB you halve won 755 of the battle! -
OK, now maybe the jokes about the private schools scheduling will stop. Texas High will be a tough test. And although BC and K'ville are 3A, Kirbyville was a state finalist the past two years and BC is an up and coming team that the Pirates used to play regularly.
I blasted Vidor for there previous non-districts and said they would have trouble against the top teams in the district because of it and they did. This years schedule is much better for them going into district, just not sure they will have the team to compete like last year?

Van, You might want to do your homework and see who Vidor TRIED to schedule. Instead of writing a story on something you dont have all the facts to..
Who besides Crosby? What other teams are scheduled besides Texarkana?
Again who else local besides Crosby did Vidor try to schedule? I assume the Texas High game was a scramble after the Crosby debacle.

TXSWA 2A All State Team snubs Ford
Its just a Quess but It must be because Bennett had far less rushing attempts than ford, I really can't figure it out because I think ford is one of the best RB's in the State.
Ford had more attempts, but he also had a better average than Bennett, meaning given the same amount of attempts Fords numbers would still be better! -
The reason there is lack of support is because the Triangle residents identify with their hometown high school football team. It is not just the Lamar football team that suffered... Any one remember the Beaumont Golden Gators......
BINGO. All the more need to recruit local talent, which Woodard has done a good job with so far.
I do think the # of students living at Lamar has drastically increased since I was there in the late 80's. This can only help the attendance at the football games.
Hasn't helped for Basketball yet. I am very dissapointed in the LU student sections or lack thereof. LU gets 3K-4K at every game of which maybe 200 are students in the student section. SHSU gets 2K-3K every game of which over half are students. If the students would show up (it's free for gods sake) over 1000 each night, that place would be rockin' to the tune of 5K-6K and I promise more wins. I've been there when we have big crowds and it gets loud and the team feeds off of it (BYU, Tx Tech, Both W's)

Coach Roc makes the coaching hotseat list
Continue to give Roc time, and here's why: Roc is not using this job as a stepping stone as any other coach would with the exception of Coach Tubbs. Roc is a Triangle native, a LU grad, and has worked his way up from the bottom to the top. In other words, he is fully committed to bringing the program back to where it was in the late 70s to early 80s. Yes, he could have left. He has had offers for more money at elite programs. He wants to be at LU! He knows what it is going to take to get there, and he puts the amount of hours in and then some to insure it will happen. Be patient Card fans! We are going to be in the tournament again and sooner rather than later.
I have to agree. I think with the crop of Freshman and Sophomores we have right now the continuity will be excellent in a couple of years. Add to that mix a real distributing PG hopefully next year. No more two and out JC's. 2012 G So. Nuno 2 yr starter G Sr. Miles 4 yr starter G Jr. Minor 3 yr starter F Sr. Harper 4 yr starter F Jr. Brown 2 yr starter G Jr. Lopez G So. Lynch G Sr. Davis F Jr. Wesley F So. Kyser/Osas -
The name that stood out the most to me was Payton Ploch from Dayton. Multi-talented kid that was under recruited because he didn't really come on till last year. Take him off of that Bronco squad and they would have been a very average team last year. He made them a real threat each week.
I really expected more progress when Tubbs came into the picture
Like helping to resurect the football program and update the football facilities, updating the baseball facilities, bringing in a new Womens Basketball Coach that will turn that program around or a new Volleyball coach that would create a winner. Yeah I expected more outta Tubbs as well. ::) -
Me thinks that Katy which is not a true spread offense (more i-based), is pretty hard to defend. The spread offense is a gimmick offense when all you have are athletes who cannot do anything else but run in space.
Katy runs out of the I. They don't come anywhere near any of the Bones...So what is your point about Katy in this context? The Bone is also a gimmick offense. It is designed to create confussion. Why is that not gimmicky?

It is much easier to stop a run based offense than a spread offense (considering the spread offense has a QB to deliver the ball). If your defense back field and linebackers are better athletes than the offensive running backs (the quickest guys are on defense) it will be more difficult to move the ball running than passing.
BINGO! When was the last time you saw a Bone offense win or even play in a State Title game at the higher classifications? Probably Coach Gage and the Farmers 13+ years ago. That's because most of the bigger 4A and up schools have enough athletes on defense to defend it well. But your point BHBrave about the opossition gamep lanning is a good observation. This in itself is usually good for a couple of wins each year in District. Ask Vidor.
Waxahatchie made it to the Reg 2 finals against Longview this past year.....
It's all about the $$$$. LU is very similar to the Houston Astros. Afraid to spend money. They decided in the 80s to be a primarlily basketball school, and they had a good run. But it's over now. If they ever want to get back to where they were, they have to fork up the money. Honestly though, this is now a football, baseball, basketball school. In that order. I don't think Tubbs main focus is basketball right now, nor should it be.
What planet are you on? I love it when people complain about the Astros not spending money and don't do any actual research!!! Houston had the 8th highest payroll in 2009 ($103 million). Behind huge markets NY (Yankes and Mets); Chicago Cubs; Boston; Detroit (only smaller market); LA Angels; And Philli. Which is proof it ain't about how much you spend, it's about who you spend it on. As far as Roc and graduation rates, again check the numbers. From what I understand this year already graduated is Hall, Nabors and Nwevo. Custer will graduate early as well. The hits for graduation came from a few years back when some of the JUCO guys left or were dismissed for obvious reasons.
