This is definetely a better schedule than last year. Problem is the team that needed to be tested pre-district was last years. I just don't see Vidor winning much in 2010. I have been wrong once before...Once! ;D

Solid Choice For Hamshire Fannett...
badndn replied to smitty's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
All of this pretty much solidifies what I was saying about Malone not being the right guy for the job. If you want a coach that is going to push the kids to get the most out of them and teach them discipline in all aspects of life, Malone is your man...Sounds like that aint what HF is lookin for. I just couldn't see him staying long with the HF parents on him. Remember that is one of the things that drove him away from PNG. That and a woman that wanted to be close to home (Nebraska). I am interested in this move because I have a nephew who is in the 6th grade in HF who is a monster (5'9" 180 lbs) and has played Pop Warner until the last two years when he was too big to play (which is a totally insane rule). -

Malone may not stay long?? He has to be close to 60 by now. Also, if the folks at HF whinned about the last coach pushing the kids to hard, then Malone would drive them insane and I can't see him putting up with any parental BS. -
Returning players for Nederland and thoughts?
but for some reason the Ned staff may be gun shy about going into camp with only two Qb's... not sure why that would be.
Maybe because QBs have been dropping like flies over their in Nederland lately. -
marlin going ul-l seems like a lateral move career wise.those dollars must have done the trick.
Nope. Sunbelt has proven that they can get an at large! Also if you go 26-6 in the sunbelt but loose the post season tournament, you still have a shot at an at large. Not hapening in the Southland.

Bob Marlin is also a candidate for UTEP job
One of the men's hoop big wigs reported that if UH President (or is she Chancellor?) Rena Khator rejects Billy Gillespie, that the Cougars will hire Bob Marlin...
Gillespie would put the people in the seats due to name recognition and win, but Marlin would be a very good second option. He is destined to move on and have a nice career at the Mid Major then Major levels. Where would SHSU go then? Anyone in mind? -
Returning players for Nederland and thoughts?
badndn replied to ReadOption's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think the big question at Nederland for next year is who starts under Center? Two good options. Not a bad problem to have! I would have to go with Forney after the way he led the team at the end of the season. But if he can help you more elsewhere because you have an established QB to step in (Smith) it creates a delima. -
BEST SETX Running Back You Ever Saw
badndn replied to Boogy1000's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
JC and Shancerrick were different types of backs in HS. Shanderrick was small (5'8" 180), but was a jitterbug. Very hard to tackle in the openfield. JC was bigger and stronger and obviously the better back, but remember I never saw JC in person so I went with SC. Shanderrick had a neck issue cut his career short at SMU. See below. from DMN article in 2005 In 2001, ShanDerrick Charles exploded on the scene as a running back for the Mustangs midway through his freshman season, carrying 134 times for 860 yards. His 6.4 yards-percarry average was fifth nationally. In ShanDerrick's first significant action that season, he ran for 243 yards on 26 carries at San Jose State. He followed two weeks later with 212 yards on 27 carries and four touchdowns against UTEP. "My brother was so good, it was ridiculous," Jamaal said. "He was quicker and had more jukes than I have. He's short, but he's strong. Nobody thought he could get through the creases he got through. He could have been in the NFL by now." ShanDerrick was on pace to break former Oklahoma great Joe Washington's longtime career city rushing record in Port Arthur until ShanDerrick broke his hand in the third game of his senior year. He fell 39 yards short of Washington's record. Jamaal would break that record four years later by rushing for 4,107 yards and 50 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Port Arthur Memorial. -

Best I ever saw in person...Charles (that's Shanderrick Chrales - Lincoln). Wow he was fun to watch. I never saw JC. -
You must be a youngin to not have Todd Dodge or Craig Stump on your list. I believe both were Parade All Americans. Another good one from the 80's was Kenny Ford (SFA/Ok. State). 1. James Brown - WB (great QB and athlete. Great career at UT) 2. Dustin Long - PNG (great QB and leader. Led team to state title game. set passing records at A&M/was 2nd in Payton Award while at SHSU) 3. Todd Dodge - TJ (revolutionalized the Tx HS QB. Led team to state title game. Only successful UT QB in the 80's (10-1)) 4. Cody Green (If we include Dayton, great dual threat. Led team to state title game. Time will tell at Nebraska, looks good so far) 5. Chip Ambres - WB (tremendous athlete who was a top 5 MLB pick and chose BB over FB (A&M), may have been a mistake?) 6. Craig Stump - TJ (continued the tradition Dodge started. very productive at A&M) 7. Dustin Hood - Ned (very good HS QB. led Ned to semis I believe, which was farther than any Ned team since the 50's) 8. Kenny Ford - SFA (athletic QB. led SFA to semis. didn't play alot at OSU) 9. Jeremy Johnson - Silsbee (very athletic QB. Helped Silsbee dethrone WOS as DC. Will see how WVU treats him) 10. Jeff Granger - OField (two sport star. played BB and FB at A&M. made it to the pros as a pitcher) Just my opinion

A few weeks ao I thought Marlin would be he Head Cougar, but with Penders's crew making the late season push into the NCAA I don't think he will be gone. Maybe SMU after 4 failed years with Doherty would look to Marlin? Other than that it wont happen this year.

starting some trash talking with Terror
badndn replied to UNLV's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Terror, I think if you polled this board you would find that a much, much higher percentage of Cardinal fans will be rooting for SHSU or the Southland Conference, than will be rooting against them. Most of us understand the importance of the SLC winning in the tournament and what it means for future tournament bids. If the conference rep can make a splash consitantly for several years, then we (the SLC) may get an at large bid down the road if we have two equal teams with exceptional records, ala the MVC or SunBelt. -

I have to disagree about the recruiting. Miles as a Sophomore averaged 14 per game and shot 37% from 3 point range. Pretty good recruit! He is just having to play out of position. He is not a PG. Harper has shown when healthy that he has talent. Now what I am not sold on is the actuall coaching! Not every recruit out of HS is going to be a stud Freshman or even Sophomore. The key is to not have to rely on those young guys so much as Freshman and Sophs and in order to do that you have to have more Jrs. and Srs (4 year guys). This club is moving away from the JUCO two and out recruits and into the four year recruits. It takes some time.

Texas HS football Vs the Nations Top HS football??
Smh if Texas and Florida Had it like some of these other schools..We may Have a Super Power..Like A highschool in Miami that Players from Northwestern,Miramar, Washington, and Ect. Or A Highschool in Dallas were you get players from, Skyline, Allen, Plano and Ect...Wow, Thats to much Talent from One team
Northwestern is a public school, but they have over 100,000 kids in the district who can all choose to go to Northwestern! Pretty much a breeding ground for Miami talent. So imagine if the top 40 players in the Dallas ISD could choose to play at any school in the district. -

Our running game will be there. I'm not sure about our passing game because, i'm not sure about our recievers. Our young gunner really gave me a breath of fresh air when he came in against F-Wood. He showed flashes of success. I'm really thinking he'll be a good one with help from supporting cast.
Don't forget the big guys up front. They don't get the credit they deserve. They make the QB position doable. Ask any successful QB, without their o-line they would be in trouble.
BINGO. I have always said championship teams are made in the trenches! Ask the PNG QB before Doty (Tatum). Of course he was a sitting duck because of the run, run, pass, punt offense we were running (predictable) and lack of anything other than throw it deep on third down passing plays, but he had no time to throw. PNG 3-6 that year. -
Bob West: Steve Roccaforte on shaky ground as LU head coach
Roc could bail out, take his money and become someone's assistant coach. It's the most logical and safe thing thing to do. And if he leaves, will that show his lack of confidence in his recruiting and coaching abilities in the SLC?
If Roc bails he is owed "ZERO", Natta, Zilch! I think he may realize that this team will not be a contender next year (could be a couple of years before they are and he doesn't have a couple of years) and that if the right offer comes along the time to jump would be now rather than wait till next year when the opportunities may be limited. -
LU's Nabors named second-team all-SLC

NW Miss CC has been very bad since he left. They went from a perinnial NJCAA Powerhouse and 30 game winner to 10-15 wins per season the year after he left. -
That would be the same Notre Dame that almost beat UCONN last night! Well they only lost by 14, that's as close as it gets with the Huskies. ;D

He will be missed big time next year. Congratulations to a very good player and citizen. I saw him several times go into the crowd to interact with kids both before and after games. Thats not something that you learn in college, it is something that is ingrained in you as a person! I have to say that in the past four or five years my favorite LU players where both Don Skelton Recruits from NW Miss, and both from the same area. Nabors and Sanders. C.Todd was pretty good in his own right!
