3.
Kelly will have a whole new staff on the defensive side of the ball, Coach Fischer will be coaching the linebackers and be the DC, Coach Troy Espree will be the defensive backs coach, and the defensive line job is tbd
Where did Frank Middleton go?  I thought he was DC last year.
 4.
This Coach Fischer was once the HC at HJ.
I believe he first came to this area as the DC at PNG
 5. Excellent, all the best to Luke in the future!
 6.
Just curious, are you sure he isn't on our radar?
I brought his name up when the coaching search first started, and someone (don't remember who) on this site said they contacted Lamar and that Lamar was not interested...or something like that.
 7.
Cyrien was the guy who got offered the ULaLa job but then was dismissed when it became apparent that he had lied on his resume.
Could be wrong, but I believe Cyprien actually was hired and moved to Lafayette but was dismissed or contract voided, actually, after only a couple of weeks on the job.  Still is a good coach, obviously, and I don't know if this would negatively affect LU's interest in him or not
 8.
I have been hearing Cyprien as well.
Would be a good choice...I am assuming he got the problems that kept him from being hired at UL-Lafayette are straightened out.  Wild card possibility might be Terry Johnson, assistant at Butler, who was point guard and baseball player at Lamar during mid '90's.
I think Tony lives in Louisville area.
Just so long as they don't bring back Newell!
Don't think he graduated.
Is that a requirement to coach? I don't think so.
I'm pretty sure that in order to be the coach at Lamar a person would have to have earned their bachelor's degree.

 13.

I still say bring back Abatemarco. Yes he is annoying, but he is a great X and O guy who can turn the program into a winner, not in 5 years but in the first year. Tom Penders would be my second choice sense many of LU players were his recruits.
Abatemarco is a fool
Abatemarco is winding up his first season as assistant at Colorado, correct?  Fool or not, he IS a better X & O coach than given credit for---just think his reputation here in the past puts him out of the picture before applications are even taken (if they are).  Just PLEASE don't bring back Newell
 14.
Isnt Towles from Crosby?
Yes, I think so.  May miss Castro, but he didn't exactly set the world on fire at the plate last year.  Am sort of anxious to see what Quintero can do if given the starting position.  Still think Q is one of the top defensive catchers in the NL, and I think he will probably not hit well but may do as well as Castro would have done.  If Towles is healthy, would he be a passable backup?
 15.
"Does anyone know the exact circumstances when we left the SBC orignally.  Where we asked to leave, or did we ask to leave?  Money? etc." I was on the advisory committee to leave the SBC at the time. It had nothing to do with Grey Giovanni's (sp?) job (he was actually a good coach I think...especially by our current standard...as in so who do we have better at guard today than his Matt Sundblad?)...it was all about the growing realization that the decision to kill football was a disaster...and how to bring it back. There's a lot of bad history from those days... In those days, Al Caldwell did the color with Dave for Lamar basketball. He was also an the advisory committee with me about leaving the SBC...he was the most most vocal about NOT doing so. He was passionate at the time about NOT re-joining the SLC...I know...I was there. History has proven him right. He'll not get any credit likely for LAMAR sports...too bad, he should..but at the least, he'll get credit for being a rock and roll icon, Big "KayC" partner...and former Blue Cap...not sure anyone on this post will know what Blue Cap means...but to drift further, I have a table at Al Caldwell's 75th birthday party in Winnie with Chuck Berry this weekend...
Sure  Blue Caps were Gene Vincent's band back in the 60's...Al was the pianist.
