Lamar men @ Sam Houston/ Lamar loses 90-63!
badndn replied to ForeverADog's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Turnovers kills us
SHSU had 19 TO's and LU had 18...Not what killed LU and not what has killed LU away from home this year. This is what kills LU: SHSU Shooting Percentage : 53% 3pt Percentage: 55% LU Shooting Percentage: 36% 3pt Percentage: 25% Two things here 1. LU is a horrible shooting team, especially from downtown. 2. Opponents get way too many shots from inside 10 feet. Also...Where has Charlie Harper gone?? If there is a Charlie Harper sighting, please let him know it's SLC time! -
I think they need to do a little research before they make a statement like that and cancel a game. Maybe they should contact the Beaumont schools and ask their opinion. I am sure they will find out it is "SAFE"!

PN-G's Dunbar-Rivera, WB's Reyes get honors

Congrats to both. Great seasons. Both players made big impacts on their teams. -
I have no problem with badndn's formula. In fact, I think it's very good. I just think that some first round playoff games are little more than scrimmages. For example, Longview (9-1 at the time) beat Whitehouse (3-7) 52 to 9; Lake Travis (10-0) beat Austin Crockett (3-6) 58 to 7; Brenham (8-2) beat Manor (2-8) 49 to 14; Refugio (10-0) beat Boling (4-6) 69 to 20; and Dallas Skyline (10-0) beat Garland Rowlett (4-6) 38 to 0 in their first round playoff games last season.
Thats understood, but per capita there are more good matchups than bad in the first round, so it would be hard to handicap. I guess the only other way to do it would have been to give a point for 1st rnd, 2 for 2nd and so on.

I figured the real measure of success is playoff wins. Some teams that are in weaker districts would mop up each year on easy regular season points, but bow out in the first or second round each year and look like great programs, when in fact they are just good programs. If two teams in a district both make the playoffs. Team A goes 6-4 reg season, but goes five deep in the playoffs Team B goes 10-0 reg season, But looses in the 1st round Who had the better program? Say team A played a tuff non-district going 1-3 and went 5-1 in district and team B played a buch of pushovers predistrict. One thing you know for sure is a playoff win is a well earned point.

Orange Crush 97 wins USFA Winter State Qualifier
badndn replied to Homer's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Very proud of all the girls. That wake up call hopefully set the tone for the rest of the spring. Love the way the responded. They all hit lights out in those last two games! -
7-9 should get them in the tourney. Plus I think they can beat Texas State and Northwestern State on the road. They should be close to 7-9 in SLC play.
They will not beat TS on the road. To beat TS the Cards will have to outgun them and if this season has taught me anything it is that they aint outgunning anybody on the road. NWS on the road I could see.

BH Hires Two-time State Champ Coach - Ronnie Gage

Congrats to the BH faithful...While I have my doubts about BH winning with the BONE, I have to admit Gage has a great track record. -
Watch - A relative unknown will get the Barbers Hill job. Maybe someone with a spouse in the district or some sort of connection. Seems like the "big" names do not want it and they will go with someone that is not seen as in the hunt and then if that does not work they will get a chance to hire the big name to reshape the program.
Good Call!!! What's your real name "Nate Kedding??" ;D
good work and thanks for your time badndn...
No problem. It was actually kinda cool going through and placing real meaningful values on wins and playoff appearances. We all talk alot about our favorite programs, but most of us look at what have you done for me lately and tend to forget about the recent history. As a PNG fan I thought before I did the stats that PNG was a top program in the GT over the past decade, but most of that was based on last year and that feeling we all have about the future. The numbers don't lie...They tell me I was wrong! Kinda gives some perspective into the Burnett era since D. Long left (1999 which was one year before the decade!). As an overall program I think the ammenaties, current staff and results from the Varsity and JV last year (21-1) at PNG make it a potential top program, but time will tell.

Nothing wrong at all with your statement Coop. As seen the LU Predictions thread I bumped from pre-season, I picked LU to go 16-16 and 6-10. So if they go 8-8 I would consider it a big success this year. Problem is I don't see them winning on the road and several of the remaining home games are against tough teams that the Cards will have a lot of trouble with. Remember folks, this team has 2 SLC wins, both at home, both close, close games against bad teams! If you can't put away the bad teams at home...What do you really think they will do against the good teams at home? The future looks bright. Love the impact that Minor has had on this team as a true Fish(could be that lock down perimeter defender LU hasn't had in a long time). And Brown getting meaningful PT is also great. Getting Miles off the point next year will be a plus for Miles and LU. He could be a league MVP before he is done and Harper will put up the numbers Nabors is on the boards and in points, and maybe more because he is developing a legit outside game. Also think Lopez needs to get more PT. He handles the ball well, is super fast, and seems to be the only PG we have that has no problem making the entry pass to the post. Which has driven me insane for several years now. We have had SG at PG the last 4 years and they appeared to be hesitant to make the pass down low. Lopez sees the court well and gets the ball in to the post before the defense reacts. he also doesn't appear to be lacking in confidence in making the pass. Tell me I am not alone in this thinking.

Lamar Men's Hoops Predictions...........

I am assuming at 6'7" 275 lbs he would switch to DE if he was athletic enough to play TE. Not a lot of need for a big, big TE in the Spread. Really need a H Back type 6'3" 235 range with great hands.

Team of the decade!!! Katy Tigers 83.88 Points 88% winning percent, 45 playoff wins, 6 title appearances and 4 State Championships. Close second Celina 78.90 points 90% winning percent, 40 playoff wins, 6 title appearances and 4 State Championships. (interesting side note is that Celina won state titles in 1999 & 98 as well) And in third Southlake Carroll 76.88 Points 88% winning percent, 41 playoff wins, 5 title appearances and 4 State Championships. And for good measure Lake Travis after starting out the decade (6-6) (1-9) (0-10) (3-7) finished strong going (15-1) (16-0) (15-0) with 19 playoff wins and 3 State titles in 3 appearances for a total of 43.67 points.

Results below speak for themselves. Points 1 Newton 36.80 2 Dayton 21.73 3 KVille 21.68 4 Jasper 19.63 5 WOS 15.82 6 Ned 12.65 7 Central 9.59 8 BC 8.61 9 WBrook 8.50 10 BHill 5.74 11 EC 4.71 12 PNG 4.61 13 Sils 3.48 14 PAM 2.51 15 Lum 2.48
Great idea, with the point system. I know Brenham isn't setx, but where exactly would we fall in your point system? (I wanna make sure I don't miss anything)
Brenham would have been second on this list with 27.77 points. (6-5) (11-2) (14-2) (5-5) (9-2) (14-1) (11-2) (8-3) (8-5) (13-3) 21 playoff wins and 2 title appearances. Just behind Newton who had 25 playoff wins, 2 title appearances and one State Championship.

Good move. Being an OC and learning the college game before becoming a HC! worked for Art Briles. The opposite hasn't worked out so well for Dodge at UNT who went straight from HS to UNT as HC.
Very nice ndn I think some of you are using only the past year or two
Thanks, Remember the bold quote!
1. WOS in the past ten years no one has consistently beat them one person said they'll always go three or four rounds deep and lose I'd say that's pretty good THE MIDGET RB WILL SURPRISE NEUTRAL
WOS got 8 points from the 2000 state title run 10 years ago. That's gone next year. Without it WOS would have had 7 points and finished 10th on this list. Interesting!!!! Also WOS had the highest Win %, but just didn't get it done in the playoffs over the past 9 years (except 2005). I think this says more about the 3A district then it does WOS.
2. Newton just as successful as WOS but smaller classification is deciding factor and head to head I'm guessing goes to WOS NEVER CHANGE
Newton has two state title runs and is the only team in the area with an actuall State Championship. Head to Head vs WOS might not go to WOS (ask Kirbyville ;)). Newton is head and shoulders above the pack right now over the past 10 years.
3. Dayton pretty much owns two 4a districts not as consistent playoff success as the two prior. NEUTRAL
Picked up a lot of points the past three years and looks to get stronger!
4. Central guess they're the perrenial sleeper cause they get little respect on here UP
Central was aided big time by the playoff runs from the past few years. But they only have 1 ten win seasons in the past ten years. Moving up lately.
5. Silsbee only team that interests us when they play WOS in district UP
(4-6) (5-6) (1-9) (0-10) (9-1) (4-5) (9-3) (4-6) (6-5) (7-5) records over 10 years. That and only 3 playoff wins. Two of those in one year And only one with JJ. Remember the quote at the top!

WOS #1?? Have you been paying attention? #1 Dayton - Model of consistency including State title game last year. Neutral #2 Newton - Allways a threat in November. Neutral #3 Kirbyville - With the bulk of that in the past four years (Two state title appearences does that for ya) Rise #4 Jasper - How quickly you folks forget the great State title game against Gilmer a few years back. Rise #5 WOS - And dropping. Fall #6 Nederland - Great area team, just haven't made it all the way.Neutral #7 West Brook - Moving up with the past five years. Previous five not so much! Rise #8 East Chambers - The Thomas era was pretty good.Fall #9 PNG - Up and down the past 10, but there were a few DC's and two and three round seasons and the future looks good. Rise #10 Silsbee - Up and down. Rise

The Cards again shot well in the second half (well over 50%), but the reason this one was close was because Mcneese shot 57% for the game. LU gives up way to many easy layups! Allways have since Tubbs then Roc.
