  1. Could it be he is missed more than thought? He did take a stand with Roc during games last year and did some coaching.
  2. I have to say I like the young guys he has brought in. I like the direction he appears to be headed with more 4 year guys and building some continuity. Hard to argue with the production of freshman like Miles and Harper. The reason I think people are point at the inside scoring is because teams are gaurding McThay and Dawkins much tighter this year and making them have to take tougher shots from outside. Thus the dismall shooting percentages. That only opens up when we can dominate down low and can work some inside/out. We get no respect down low and rightfully so. Smaller guards are easier to shutdown from outside.
  3. So I get the argument that we don't know how effective he will be as a HC because he has never been a HC, but the argument we as PNG fans are making is that if you are going to hire a lifetime assistant coach to be your HC (which happens everyday and has happened in every HC's career) and you are going to Gamble that he can be a good HC, you need to look at the positives. This guy is loaded with positives as an assistant coach. From The great storied programs he has coached and played at, to the great coaches he has learned from, to the numbers (and wins) that his systems have helped to produced. You gotta admit that amongst HS assistants his resume is very impressive. Time will tell if it translates, but the folks in PN and G are very happy with the choice based on the facts. Also another note about hiring HC's with previous experience being less of a gamble, how about when Permian hired the guy from Sealy who had won several state titles, including one the year before he took the Permian job, and he ruined that program for several years. How about LaMarque hiring this guy from Dallas last year. HC with experience. Look how down they are. It's a gamble no matter who you pick because it is different! Remember the most successful HC in our local 4A district the past few years have held only one HC job. Neuman-Nederland, Creuder-Lumberton, Stowers-Central, Has Stewart at Dayton ever been a HC anywhere else?.
  4. Point being Neuman as with all HC's was an assitant before he became a HC.
  5. If he signed his LOI then they can't pull anything just like he can't change his mind without penalty after he signs. I am sure Baylor will be keeping a close look at him when he gets on campus.
  6. Custer starts next year, not Nwevo. Remember Nwevo didn't even play in conference action last year! Maybe the team stopped off in Vegas for a "Slump Buster" on the way to Utah! ;D
  7. If Toolson gets 40 we loose by 20! Can someone explain to me why Coy is playing less than 10 minutes a game in conference? Why did he play only 6 against SFA? He needs to be playing more and they need to get him the ball more down low. He is the only guy on the team shooting over 50%! And he works hard underneath.
  8. Actually what he was saying is that his offense will be 50/50 Run/Pass. Meaning he will adjust to what is given. If we have to pass 50 times to win, then we will pass 50 times. If we have to run 50 times to win, then we will run 50 times! I like that attitude. Whatever it takes, as opposed to the grind it out style against 10 men in the box that we have had for the past 8 years with little success. Good Luck Coach!
  9. I think they have proven lately that it doen't matter. I wouldn't worry about winning this game. I would play my young guys and get everyone else healthy for the stretch run. 2/14 = Do or die! And with games on the road at SH and CC, it will be a tuff chore!
  10. WOW, I point that out before the game and someone labels me a "fair weather fan".
  11. Not a fair weahter fan. Just the opposite. Been a fan and season ticket holder since birth. But I am also a realist. SFA is a better basketball team. They are at home. And they have the upperhand in the mismatches. LU does horrible against bigger gaurds. They struggle to get off good shots from the perimiter. SFA has Alexander and Kingsley. Tuff matchups! Is it possible for LU to win? Sure it is, but SFA just lost on the road to Nicholls. LU is not going to catch them off gaurd! Who do I want to win? LU all the way. Who do I think will win? To borrow a line from the SFA Eagles of old - SFA all the way.
  12. What makes you so confident? The stellar Basketball being played lately by this team?
  13. No way we win. I say we stay close early then melt late and loose by 15.
  14. Explain to me why Larry Coker would have any interest in Lamar? I understand UTSA. Big city. Fun city. Should be easy to recruit to. Great Stadium (Alamodome). No competition for football enternainment. Someone who has been there (like Coker) could turn that program into a serious FBS threat over time. If they do it right they could have a nice 30+ thousand per game fan base or more pretty quickly. Look I know we all love LU, but if you were being recruited by LU and UTSA for football and you were not from the GT, where would you rather go?
  15. If I am not mistaken weren't UT's starting Safeties this year both Freshman?
  16. If this is true about Cary coming from Aledo, then again we are getting another coach from a great program. Cary was not the DC, but the Aledo team this year allowed just under 9 points a game and last year I beleive it was, they pitched 5 shutouts. Not bad!
  17. Very good timeframe! Gonna be tough to keep a honeymoon alive when you drop your first 4 years straight to big ned.... ;D ;) on a more serious note, I hope the guy comes in and does a great job, if not, I'd say the honeymoon lasts about as long as the PNG scoreboard stays on after a Nederland win....not long ;D ;D I think the good folks in PN and G are just happy that Coach Spell will now have to actually work the week of MCM! ;D
  18. Yeah, they actually ran the ball 475 times last year and only threw 270 times. The key is it is not just smashmouth, line up yours and line up ours and butt heads and see who wins running style. It is more of a deceptive running attack.
  19. LU loses again! Let the shooshting begin!
  20. Well if you had been paying attention, you would know that Faircloth does not run the spread! He actually runs the ball quite a bit more than he passes. This past year Permian threw 290 times for 2700 yards and ran 475 times for 3500 yards. And the tradition comments are with respect to the expectations at PNG. And answer me this, When has PNG ever had top of the line talent? Ever? Sure we have had a few very talented young men, but never the talent of PA or Central and Ozen across the board, but PNG has enough talent to work with in an inovative offense.
  21. I was going to make that point as well 82! Not only has he coached at Permian, but Highland Park as well. If I am not mistaken, isn't HP the winningest HS football program in the state of Texas. Loads of tradition in the Scotts program. He also coached at Westlake who has developed a pretty rich, but young tradition of wining as well. And then you top that all off with the fact that he graduated from and played for Brownwood which has a very rich history as well. I think this guy will get it! He will understand what purple pride is about and he will use it to his advantage.
  22. Faircloth has no HC experience yet, but he has learned from the best. 1. Played for Brownwood (home of the 2nd all time winningest coach in Texas HS Football) 2. Coached under Ron Schroeder at Austin Westlake (Schroeder went 187-27 and won a couple of 5A State Titles at Westlake of which Faircloth was on staff) 3. Coached under Randy Allen at Highland Park (Allen went 106-11 and won a state title in 4A with Faircloth on staff) 4. Coached under Allman at Permian (Allman has turned Permian back into a west Texas power and top ten team) I'd say he had to learn a few pretty good things about running a program and it looks like he has some pretty good coaches to call on if he has questions!
