I started off using a .243 as a kid and later got a .300 win mag because I was tired of tracking deer, even when shot good.  On a trophy class animal I put it right through the front shoulders and it USUALLY drops them in their tracks, except for elk.  I did't mind the recoil of the mag but didn't like it either so I put a brake on and regret the day that I did.  One shot with a break and my left ear goes deaf for a few minutes and rings for the rest of the day.  I started taking ear muffs to the stand to keep this from happening but they are a pain to keep up with and a bigger pain to put on in a rush situation.  This past summer I bought a Tikka T3 Light in .270 wsm and I love it.  Best shooting gun that I ever owned, even better than my Rem 700 bdl .300 win mag. which has been customized a great deal.  Can't wait to see how it performs on deer this year.  Saw someone mention the 25 wsm and was wondering if it is suitable for a young kid, 6 yo, and how it compares to a .243.

I have a picture of a 12 point taken 10-18-07 at our lease.  Thank you for the directions on how to post.  This picture was taken about a half mile from my stand.  Sure hope he decides to come check things out in my neck of the woods.  Anyone have a guess at his BC score?

IF Buna can play ball control football and limit EC big play strikes they can keep it close and have a chance at an upset, otherwise EC will roll em.

There is some real quality Type II land here in Newton with some nice deer on it.  Easy access and VERY few hunters.

Lots of acorns falling here in Newton but also seeing lots of buck activity.  Guess I'll let my 6 yo son kill ol mossy horns for his first deer. 

Weather like this makes me want to pee on my hocks and hook some bushes. ;D

Don't think we have enough room here if that merge happened. ;D  Would like to see Burkville merge with Newton, we would most likely still be in 2A.

I look for Jasper to hang more points on WOS than anyone else so far.

I believe Jasper has the talent, just need the spark back.  In my eyes, Brooks toughest and greatest accomplishment will be getting Jasper to believe in themselves and believing they will win.  This program is headed in the right direction and the Dawgs upset HF Friday night.

How close have you gotten to deer while using it? I have been within about 15 feet of deer while bow hunting and I am always worried about scent spooking them.

I've gotten them within bow range and never had any problems.  Remember that if the deer is in a position to smell a Thermacell he can also smell you.  You should be using the wind to your advantage anyway. 

I knew it would be a tough game, CC is ranked ahead of Newton in several polls,  and they lived up to their ranking.  Newton ran all over them but killed themselves with turnovers and penalties, without them the score wouldn't have been as close.  24 AA had better take notice, CC could easily have any one of them sitting at home after the 1st round.  My early prediction...23AA sweeps 24AA in the first round.

I used on in archery season last yr and it worked very well and didn't spook deer.

IMO this would be the best move for Jasper. Use those big men up front and shove it down their throat.

WOS has a good shot if they can get by Giddings and LH.

EC has a good shot if they can derail Mart and Newton goes Div 1.

Newton also has a chance but will have to get by Tatum Div 1 or Mart in Div 2.

No doubt that a team has to have talent and coaching to reach the title game but they also have to have some luck. I think all three of these teams have a legit chance at the big game.

CC is salty as always and I think it will be close to the end.

We were 20 miles south of Jackson Hole near Hoback Junction.  I have archery hunted Colorado for the past 10 yrs and NEVER saw elk and elk sign like I did there, it was unreal.  The elk population should remain steady there until the wolves move in sometime in the near future.  Guide said that the wolves are within 20 miles and that the residents and outfitters are very concerned because they can reduce the elk population by 40% in just a very short time and the federal government won't allow any kind of control.

Thinking of the Giddings game, with Kirbyville is disrespectful.  ;D Wasn't comparing Giddings to Kirbyville, thinking of the...cough, cough...choke at the end. 

I'm back and all I can say is OMG it was fun.  Killed a nice 5x6 bull and a fair 5x5 deer, both on the first day of the hunt.  Killed my deer at 380 yds and guide called the bull in and shot him at 30 yds.  It was just like on tv, between two bulls bugling in the dark timber and the guide used a cow call to get them close.  The big herd bull had cows and wouldn't commit, stayed raking trees and bugling his challenge at 75 yds, but could only see parts of him through the trees.  The other bull thought he could slip in a steal the "lost" cow he was hearing, his last mistake.  He screamed and chuckled the whole way in and I was beginning to wonder if the ol nerves could take it but it's kind of hard to miss at 30 yds.  He appeared in the only opening that I could shoot through and I squeezed the trigger when the cross hairs settled on his front shoulder, thinking that I could break him down and drop him.....wrong.  He spun and crashed down through the timber, clearing a huge path on his way.  He only made it about 75 yds before dieing.  Shot him with .300 win mag using 180 gr Barns MRX bullets, broke front shoulder and rib, turned the lungs to gell, broke a rib on the off side before stopping in his thick hide. 

The weather was COLD!! Snow and rain for 2 days and lows in the low 20s...PERFECT.  Couldn't have been a better hunt.  If any of you get a chance to hunt Wyoming, book with Double YY Outfitters, well worth the money.  Will post pictures but cant figure out how...computer tard.

I think it will be a close defensive battle to the end....thoughts of Giddings come to mind then....KV by 1
