To say that Jasper had more talent than Kirbyville last year is just not true.  I hope Jasper beats the wheels off of kirbyville this year.   ;D

Yes cougars (mountain lions) are legal to shoot in Texas as long as you have a valid hunting license.  As far as "black panthers" are concerned I have mixed thoughts on them being in this area.  However, if you go to the Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin you will see that the Jaguar's range is up in this area.  They have a map that shows a shaded area that includes S.E. Texas.  The Jaguar can be spotted or black.  It just might be possible for some to be in this area.

About 10 yrs ago I watched a cougar stalk a couple of small bucks that were grazing in my oat patch in Newton.  At first I thought it was a really large bobcat until I saw its long tail and then I knew what it was.  The wind was swirling and they winded him before he could catch one.  Pretty neat to watch it unfold though, watched him try to sneak up on them for about 5 min before they busted him.  About 2 weeks later my brother-in-law saw him cross one of his lanes close to his feeder.  We both could have killed him but decided that since they are so rare in this part of Texas we would just watch.

Gringo, my last trip to the ranch in March, I paid $8.99 a bag for corn...I don't think I will be dumping as much on the Senderos as in the past?? I know that when we go South next weekend, we will 4-5 riding in each pickup. 

I buy an all stock pellet that feed my horses instead of corn.  A lot higher in protein (12%) and costs about the same as corn. 

More likely due to the floods in the corn belt during growing season.  Good percentage of the crops lost to heavy rain and flooding during the late spring.

Anyone have first hand info on the Newton scrimmage?

This will be one heck of a game, both teams loaded and ready to make a deep run.  Newton's defense will be the deciding factor in this game.

This is shaping up to be one of the best games in the area next year.  Kirbyville will return a lot of talent as will Newton but the edge goes to Newton due to a better coaching staff.  Sorry Jack

If McGregor has a defense to go with this passsing attack........they win big! If not, then it will be scat left, scat right and dive up the middle Newton with another victory.

CC should be a good test for EC.  Newton only beat them by 4 but we also had about 6 turnovers during that game.  CC is fast, big and well coached.  They like to run the ball with their speedy backs but can and will throw deep.  Should be a good game

Thanks Woodvillefan....I haven't heard from Backwoods in a long time, don't know if he is just lurking or what.  Looks like we will be facing McGregor next Friday, really like our chances this year.
