1. As a former HF graduate it is nice to see those longhorns doing well this year.  They had a girl qualify for 800 final and the boys team had a 100 meter runner, 300 hurdler, and the 4 x 400 qualify for finals.  Trevor Bell did awesome as well. WOS looking pretty solid as normal and probably wont have anyone close to them in team standings.
2. Sorry AggiesAreWe you might want to go recheck that team score that was before 3200.
3. WOS is good, but Dallas Madison ain't too shabby either.  Just at their district meet:  4 x 100 = 41.93; 800 runner 1:59; 110 Hurdler 14.25; 100 = 10.86 and 10.97; 4 x 200 = 1:27.82; 300 hurdler = 38.25; 400 runner = 49.89; 4 x 400 = 3:16.64 :o .  I know all these performances won't make it to state or win it, but they are definitely strong. I know with WOS hurdler and other individual runners it is going to be fun to watch.  Who knows WOS might win by 30 points.
4. Also I totally disagree about the whole regional qualifier is equal to a scrimmage.  That is the one meet out of the entire year my athletes get excited about. Usually good weather and excellent competition.  Numerous school records are set at regional qualifiers as well as I know that the Rice, Sam Houston, and UTSA coach were there recruiting at the Woodlands RQ.  I know Huffman set three school records, Bridge City had at least one, and I think Nederland had two.  Most of my athletes will have faster times at the RQ then Regionals because of the competiton.  If some of these times/marks were never posted it would hurt recruiting of these athletes.
5. Actually if you pay to attend a meet it is expected to have full results by the next day.  Honestly with technology no one should host a district, rq, or regional meet unless they have an FAT system.  Also, RQ meets do matter especially for distance runners who are trying to run a time to qualify for Congress Avenue Mile.  Results were posted for about 8 regional qualifiers less than 12 hrs of their completion on the free website ttfca.com as well as now you can find full results at txrunning.com,  directathletics.com,  athletic.net, and the paid website texastrack.com.  The pamemorial results have been up at directathletics for a while now. So that is why 3ACCCoach asked.  There are many coaches in Texas who take track just as serious as football.
6. Most of you probably already know this, but to break or tie the State record it has to be done at the State Meet.
7. On topic, all coaches know almost a year in advance of when the district meet, and if a kid can't participate at district meet they shouldn't bother coming out for the sport.  Ok so I guess since I am the only one who knows how to research, you are right there are a lot more schools appx 78 because I might have been off one or two when counting.  241 Division 1 Universities participate in softball and 319 Division 1 participate in track and field.  But schools like Lamar PA and San Jac don't have track and field, but have softball.  There are probably a lot more Non D1 schools that have softball as compared to track and field. You still have not commented on recruiting of foreign athletes in softball.  I am out of the loop, and would like to know. Again since your daughter is a field event athlete I never said you wouldn't learn anything from junior olympics.  I said it was beneficial for field event athletes. Also, I guess you didn't know that in the state of Texas you can practice almost year around for the individual sports of track and field, tennis, and golf.  We do practice year around and my athletes not once participate in select/summer track and field.
8. Again not a clue I tried to tell you that junior olympics is not important. I worked 2 years with Baylor track and field as a grad assist and have been around the recruiting process.  Coaches could care less if you were national junior olympic champion they mainly care about time, distance, or height.  Though Baylor is not a big recruiter of foreign athletes they have had a few over the past few years.  Foreign recruiting increases the percents dramatically take for instance Lamar Univeristy has around 26 on their womens roster with 6 or 7 not from the US and I am willing to bet they didn't come to Beaumont, TX for free.  I ran track and field at McNeese and at one time while I was there I was one of two athletes out of 15 distance runners from the U.S.  Now besides watching a few softball games in college and at the high school I coach at maybe I am clueless and there is a huge recruiting draw from south america or maybe canada.  I am willing to bet that at the college softball world series there were less than 5 athletes from all 8 teams combined from another country.  There are probably 10 foreign athletes just in the womens 10K at the National Track Meet. Softball Roster according to you 25 with 12 on scholarship about 50 % Track and Field 60 with 18 scholarships less than 33 % The truth is no matter the sport its not easy to get a scholarship.  Either one of us could state statistics to make it look like we are right.  For instance do all track and field rosters have 60, NO they don't.
9. You also posted this earlier.  Actually I know my AD, Bridge City, and Dayton's have all sent the Cross Country coaches to the Cross Country Coaches association clinic the last few years.  And to be honest it is actually pretty big clinic held last year in Austin over two days. Another example....when was the last time you heard of a school sending a coaching staff of softball....baseball....soccer...cross country.....track....volleyball.....to a coaches clinic that comes anywhere close to that of which the football coaches go to.
10. Did you really just say select level compared to Junior Olympics?  No offense but IMO and most HS track coaches summer track is really only beneficial to young athletes and field events.  From a distance coach standpoint I am highly against summer track.  This year we have 3 runners who have signed scholarships to Lamar, McNeese, and UTSA and not one of them has run summer track in the last 6 years.  Softball has 25 on their roster at the college level, whereas  the womens program at Texas A & M Track and Field(Numerous National championships over the last few years)  has 59 on roster just counted.  IT is difficult to get a scholarship no matter the sport.  You also probably don't realize this, but schools like Woodlands and Kingwood have over 70 girls on their high school cross country team. Also, no offense to your daughter and softball, but last time I checked kids in the United States who play softball don't have to worry about recruiting of foreign athletes.  Have you looked at a college track and field roster lately? This link will blow your mind when it comes to high school sport participation.  Even after seeing this you will still come up with some reasoning on how I am wrong.  Good luck. [Hidden Content] For those of you who cant see the link: Participants (Female sports) 1. Track and Field (Outdoor) 457,732 2. Basketball 444,809 3. Volleyball 404,243 4. Softball, Fast Pitch 368,921 5. Soccer 344,534 6. Cross Country 198,199 7. Tennis 177,593 8. Swimming and Diving 158,878 9. Competitive Spirit Squads 117,793 10. Golf 69,223
11. Craig S you might know a lot about softball but don't even have a clue about cross country and track and field.  Don't make a reference about a lot less kids run cross country so it would be easier to get a scholarship.  In the state of Texas more kids on girls side play basketball and track and field than any other sport last time I checked.  They don't give cross country scholarships, they are track and field scholarships.  A university has to field an entire cross country and track and field team with 12.6 scholarships on men's side and 18 on women's.  A track team is ALOT larger than a softball team. Just a little FYI. I know a girl who signed with a BIG XII school for track and field/cross country who is a TOP 5 runner in her event in the state of texas and signed for a books scholarship.
12. Only freshmen on varsity is Zach Dumas and he is leading scorer averaging about 16 a game.
13. They don't conflict with Texas Relays, but it is hard for an athlete to compete the weekend of Texas Relays and then the following week have district.  For instance 22-3A district meet will be held on the Monday and Wednesday following Texas Relays.  So that would give our athletes 2 days to recover from Texas Relays, and it isn't worth taking our athletes to Texas Relays with such a short period between meets.
14. I don't think they were that slow.  Harvinder Singh ran solo the entire race when he ran 15:39 and the temp was about 55 - 60 degrees, and he got beat by a lot of people.  Huge difference when you are running by yourself with a big lead when the temperature is 25 degrees hotter.  Combined with maybe Tarkington kid didn't have his best race at Lufkin and the fact that Bridge City had complete domination over there district.
15. Well being that am very familiar with both courses Liberty and Claiborne Park, and both Schools I promise you Liberty course is WAY faster than Claiborne Park.  The guy who won 21-3A beat the 2nd place finisher in district 22-3A by about 15 seconds less than 2 weeks ago.  You never compare one course to another.  Also, when you know you are that dominant in a district they probably didn't really try to set personal records especially with how hot the temperature has been lately.  Bridge City will be just fine.
16. Yes who is Huffman-Hargrave?  Also, Bridge City girls should be ranked but they aren't.  Barbers Hill girls are good this year too.  I am not too familiar with 4A this year, but I would have to guess they are close to cracking the Top 10.
17. Those are old rankings.  Here are the new rankings. [Hidden Content] Only local teams in rankings are: 3A Boys: 5) Huffman Hargrave 9) Bridge City 3A Girls: 3) Huffman Hargrave
18. Wow I didn't know Huffman played Silsbee in basketball last year. Yes would they have beat Huffman, probably but to just say they did because they where Regional Champions.
19. Well they aren't guilty yet.  Suspended WITH pay.  Sucks for them if they end up being innocent because forums and gossip are enough to ruin their career.  Then again I am not saying they are innocent.
20. In case you didn't know the State Track Meet will be live on the internet at this link:  [Hidden Content] .  All running events will be shown, and only select field events.  Good luck to all South East Texas Track and Field Athletes.
21. District and the meet they are talking about in this thread are two totally different meets.
22. Just talked to UIL and this year there will only be 8 qualifying for the State Meet.  Next year the extra individual will be added.
23. Honestly I wouldn't look at anyone's points to determine whether they have good or bad track team.  All teams are in district this week, and many didn't run their bests events or multiple events.  This meet was more of a tune-up for some.
