1. Anybody know what grade this kid is in?  Pretty impressive at State.  Just curious.
2. Falecia Brown went to state in 200 I think in 96.  Pretty sure Tamara Spikes went also in the 200, but not 100%.  Pretty good track teams in the mid to late 90's on boys and girls side. Maybe I can pull out the old year books and find out.  My brother who went to state for HF in 97 in the 400 would probably remember better.  If I remember I will ask him.
3. [Hidden Content] The above link talks about the specifics of it and coaches have been talking about it for over a year now.  It is suppose to go into affect next season.  Maybe they are just voting on the dynamics but as far as I know it is a done deal.
4. It is already a done deal this was decided last year.  I think it is ok...I hate losing the Regional Qualifier Meet, but having 4his qualify to area is a good thing.
5.
That universal off season is what  put HF on top in the 90 s , those two hc HF after put in no off season and look what it got them , price put it back in and you are starting to see results again - fact
I played basketball at HF in '97, '98, and '99 under AD Claude Tarver and we did not have UNIVERSAL OFF SEASON.  Just saying.
6.
Lets get some facts straight here: -HF lost to Kountze in the Regional QUARTER Final....not Regional Final (they were in same district that year....HF finished 3rd and Kountze won it) -HF did not win district when HJ was in it.....they split games but, HF lost another district game and HJ won the district title that year (not the same year as HF lost to Kountze) -And Jeff Keener is one heckuva coach
Speechless not sure about your 1st fact because I didn't play that year, but as to your 2nd fact maybe in the 2000's, but not in 1998-1999 season.  HJ was 4th in district.
7. I played for Gerald Parr in 98-99 season the last year he was there.  Not sure about the leaving in a cloud of dust unless they kept it very secret and that's kinda hard to believe in a small school like HF.  HF was cochamps that year with Liberty with 3 district loses one to Liberty, one to Barbers Hill, one to either HJ or SFA can't remember.  Not sure how long Parr had been there but we lost first round to Kirbyville.  This was the 1st time 3 teams made play offs.  97-98 season HF was 3rd with no playoffs, and 96-97 season HF was 2nd losing to Kountze in first round.
8. Last year Ozen and LCM had one that week.
9. Yeah I started doing research and was unaware on some of the NCAA recruiting rules for football.  It is weird to me that the rules are different for football compared to other sports.  The only one difference is the ONE allowed phone call, which IMO just increases the chances of recruiting violations to occur.  The following article states the NCAA rules for recruiting 9th - 12th grade  [Hidden Content] .  What is funny is in one article I was reading is how some collegiate coaches just make verbal offers and they even admitted how most of the time they don't give the kid a scholarship it is just to not lose a recruit to another school.  Mainly just to keep them still interested in their school.
10. Well it is one of 2 things:  1)  People assume that because John Doe is getting letters he is getting a scholarship or 2)  There is a lot of illegal recruiting going on (yes there is but I don't think this is the rule they are breaking)
11. I think a lot of people don't know the following: Collegiate coaches are not allowed to contact athletes before July 1st of their senior year. However athletes are allowed to contact coaches of schools they are interested in. So here is my question why do so many people talk about all theses kids who are sophomores/juniors receiving interest from all these schools. Thousands of letters are sent out every season, so a letter doesn't equate to a scholarship.
12. Who is Hampshire-Fannett?? I know a school called Hamshire-Fannett.
13. Boys Individual:  1st - Justin Donova and Layne Smith Nederland High School; Girls Individual 1st - Ashleigh Jones and Payton Burnes. Boys Team:  1st - Nederland . Girls Team:  1st - Barbers Hill.  Combined Boys and Girls - Dayton.
14.
track takes desire and god given talent. football takes some skill and coaching What was HF football record this year? ;D
No offense you know nothing about track.  Track takes desire and god given talent that is true, but it also takes GOOD coaching combined with talent and desire.
15. Thanks for the summary.  Since you were kind enough to include Huffman just wanted to not leave out Angelina Covington who took home the bronze in the 3A 1600.
16. [Hidden Content] This is the link to watch the meet live.  I believe you have to register for free first, but not sure.
17. I like the new rule as well, but what some people forget is that you truly can't look at each time compared to each region because of wind, temperature, and any other factors that affect races.  Some people could have been running into the wind and some with.  Just think not to long ago they only took 2 from each district to regionals.  UIL is definitely making some improvements.  Last year coaches were told that all classifications were more than likely going to have an AREA meet after district like the 1A classification, but haven't heard anything recently.
