  1. It was the remark about the NCAA tournament game that I took on to... I know you have a great respect for Marlin, we've discussed it before. Hopefully, we'll have plenty of more discussions about Marlin for years to come. And hopefully we throw in a few about Antaun Bootle too.
  2. Outside of McConathy at NSU...which coach in the SLC has won an NCAA game at their current institution? ABR3 -- what many Lamar fans do not realize (IMO) is that SHSU was a garbage Div I program until Marlin came on board. His win today ended a losing streak in post-season play away from Huntsville that dates back to before I was born (1982). In fact, the winning streak at home in the post-season dates back to the year I was born, but before I was born (1983). SHSU has milestone wins and most of the 20 win seasons in school history have come under his watch. SHSU was a strong NAIA team and was probably the best NAIA team in Texas during their glory years to the point the big schools refused to play us -- we'd probably would have beaten them. Not so much at the Division I level. The decision to hire Marlin was a landmark decision and despite not getting to more than one NCAA tournament yet, we have a program that is a consistent winner in our conference and one that gets tremendous academic accolades, which is always nice...
  3. I've even mentioned Marlin to Rice in the past. He gets good student-athletes and has a history of such. I'm a Rice fan #2 to that of SHSU, so I've got an interest in what's going on at Rice... Per the Rice forums, I've posted this on KatFans -- Willis is staying. The AD made it clear during a recent tour of the Autry Renovations according to those who attended...
  4. [Hidden Content] One fan on the Arkansas State board questions why Roc is not even mentioned for the Arkansas State job (Nolan Richardson turned it down) when he's all the talk in Memphis as the eventual successor there....
  5. I'm into the idea, but the Summit League is not a geographically sound fit. The travel to some of those schools is not ideal for the conference. If it was a league in our geographic region (i.e Sun Belt, SWAC), it would make more sense... The addition of Houston Baptist to the region should help. Their fan base states that they will play an ALL Div I schedule next year. I'm sure they'd love in-season home-and-homes with SLC squads.
  6. ABR -- may want to check Texas posting regulations as it regards to certain jobs...while I can not quote it, I think certain jobs must be posted 10 days. Does not mean they have to be 'closed', but they must be posted 10 days before a hire is made...
  7. FYI... The Tom Burnett interview can be heard on the Sports Radio 610 web site... [Hidden Content]
  8. Perhaps we should not play on Wednesdays and Saturdays...
  9. Should be noted that the Director of Officiating in the WAC is the same as the SLC. Same goes for C-USA, Sun Belt and Big XII, if I am not mistaken...
  10. You should be good now -- you probably got mixed in with the "spammer" group as far as I can tell. If you haven't tried to re-register, go ahead and do so...
  11. I'll see what I can do -- I'll let the admins know.
  12. coachacola, for all the great information your sharing from KatFans.com, we'd love to see you post a bit!
  13. Considering I root for any team from the SLC, I'd like one with a better chance at a higher seed... SFA will be a 13 or 14, SHSU would be a 15 (possibly a 14) while Lamar would be a 16...this based off of RPI. There's no question that SFA gives the SLC their best chance for a 'W'...
  14. I agree -- but apparently the conference as a whole (and we all know this is true) has a hard time getting home games. Ideally, we would only allow two sub-Div I opponents each year (this makes a bit more sense). Our teams have upgraded the schedule (Lamar, NWST and SHSU getting 2 for 1 with Texas Tech being the highlight), but we're obviously not where we want to be. Guess we need to play more SWAC schools, but we'd have to give them home-and-homes (we're realistically one of the few conferences that would bother traveling to the SWAC). Perhaps the SLC schools should work out deals with mid-major teams where say a team from out of region would play two neighboring SLC schools in one swing (I think a few schools have had some success with this, typically piggy-backing on major schools who are guaranteeing a game). There's different solutions, but I do not think all of them fit to each institution. One way to handle the problem for a Lamar would not work for a Nicholls State. College athletics is all about the $$$...
  15. Doesn't LU baseball have a connection with NYIT? Seem to recall that...anyone game to remind me what it is if such a connection exists?
  16. I have a feeling that a contest against Southeastern La. will not be easy for SFA...
  17. The resume... 15-10 against Div I competition Lone OOC wins are Rice and Utah Valley St SLC, 19th best conference by RPI Best win: 90 SHSU Record based on RPI 1-50 0-2 51-100 1-3 (win over #90) 100-200 2-3 (win over #s 176, 181) 201+ 12-2 Your going to have a tough argument to get into the NIT with this one, especially if SFA is not the team with the auto-bid. Like SHSU last year, Lamar lost their post-season bid (pending SLC tournament title) on the final day of the regular season. Sure, I can eat my words -- especially as it relates to the CBI as we're all clueless on how that will fall -- but after a review of the RPI, it does not look. Since you guys will bring up SHSU and attack our resume, I'm not saying we're a guarantee (our RPI of 90 is better than last year's 115, but we still lack 20 Div I wins, which I think is mandatory for us to get into a post-season tournament). 1-50 0-0 51-100 2-2 100-200 6-2 201+ 10-3
  18. It goes by conference tie-breaker protocol, so SFA has it in the bag. I think a LU appearance in the SLC final would put them in the CBI, not sure about the NIT...then again, we're all in the dark with how this CBI vs NIT will work considering it appears they will compete against each other for teams...
  19. CBI is new, the third tournament -- 16 teams. This is year numero uno. [Hidden Content]
  20. SHSU is "on the bubble" for the NIT-bid according to NIT-ology (google it, it's out there). That loss today did us no favors. Ultimately, it comes down to seeing how many spots are needed for the one-bid conferences who have their regular season champion fail to make the Dance... That would be great if the Lamar women made the CBI tournament. I know there is at least one conference that has boycotted the CBI. It will be interesting to see how the CBI bracket falls for both men and women. I'm not sure how competitive they will be with the NIT for the bids and I am not sure if they'll be "pro" mid-major (will we see .500 teams from the SEC, ACC for instance instead of 20+ win teams from the SLC?). If Lamar does not make the SLC tournament final, there will be no post-season. Same goes for any team that does not make the finals. I do not think SHSU would make it to the NIT without making the final and even then, I'm not sure we can.
  21. UNLV, the KatFans wish is to make it to a second round game (really, a semifinal). If you look at our track record, we've never won a Div I post-season tournament game away from Huntsville... In fact, we have lost 13 straight dating back to Div II in 1982 in Abilene, Texas when SHSU beat Abilene Christian, East Texas and Stephen F Austin in succession.
  22. Glad I could be of service, coachacola... Here's our SLC Tournament thread if any of you want to join in -- [Hidden Content] We'll have an individual game day thread for each game we play along the way as well, but that's going to be our main one.
  23. Someone posted on KatFans.com that Corpus Christi has been awarded the 2009 Southland Conference tournament. I know they had the conference meetings a few weeks ago. Before anyone starts calling the conference names and such, let's confirm this. I see nothing on the SLC web site regarding next year's championships...
  24. Problem is, the "top seed hosting" format does not work in some SLC cities. The game looks really good on TV in some, not so good in others. The conference is trying to build up a neutral site tournament. We'll see how long this lasts, but keep in mind, the lasting image that many get of the SLC is this one game a year that is nationally televised.
  25. Women's game is on FoxSW. Men's on ESPN2 as someone noted. Game will not be on CSTV or any of their affiliates. The Southland Conference is not partnered with them any longer as far as the Internet broadcasting goes. It'll be on Southland.TV, which is the SLC's entity through JumpTV Sports and can be purchased through the conference's web site.
