Lumberton vs Barbers Hill scrimmage last night was in the format of four separate quarters where each quarter the coaches seemed to work on different sets and player lineups in each of the quarters.
IMO in terms of the Varsity game, Barbers Hill looked pretty sharp and played with crispness and fast pace. They have a lot of length and really ran the dribble hand off well in their half court set. They rebounded well and transitioned to offense nicely, which got them a NUMBER of transition baskets. They ran man and different zone defenses at times through the game, and looked pretty far along in terms of understanding team defense concepts.
Lumberton effort was good, but the roster is still being determined based on what I saw with all the different lineups that were used throughout the night. This in turn made the play a little choppy at times on both sides of the ball, as all the girls haven't assimilated the sets that Lumberton runs on offense, and haven't had time to gel defensively to the level Coach is looking for.
As Raider24 had posted a few days back, it is largely a young team, and it will take a little time to get up to the speed and intensity that the good programs in the area play at. That being said, there were some nice flashes by the group of guards Lumberton has, and the post play looks to be an area that can be a plus offensively, once the running of the plays becomes more efficient.
Lumberton will benefit from the scrimmage this Saturday, as their biggest need appears to be playing in "Game" situations at "Game" speed.
I believe Barbers Hill plays Legacy this Friday Nov 2nd, which should be a good game/scrimmage to watch. Please correct me if I am wrong about the date of this game.

Lumberton scrimmages at Barbers Hill on Tues (10/30) and will play Barbers Hill, Vidor, and Cleveland (among others) in the Lumberton Tip-Off Classic (11/8-11/10), so I will relay what I see in terms of where those 21-5A teams seem as play starts out. They also will be playing Orangefield, Tomball, and Westbrook at the Lumberton tournament. Should be good early season work for the overall young team the Raiders have at this point due to the previously mentioned graduations and "transfers" that One Chance has listed.

Alpha,
Spot on comment in regards to the potential HJ vs United matchup. Long enough season such that I would believe there is an open spot or two on the schedule so that this game could happen. It is not about a win or a loss, its about iron sharpening iron, imo. Both teams would benefit from a matchup.

Have lurked on the SETX site for years, only recently got an ID. I think girls basketball has always been a little under the radar in terms of posts, but agree more support is a good thing. There are going to be some interesting story lines and some pretty good basketball played this year imo.
HJ will be a force as y'all have stated, and should be a much watch game for people at some point during the season. United should be really stout as well.
To mess with One Chance a little (since he will be able to quickly figure out who I am (lol)). In spite of his earlier post about Lumberton having nothing and lost everything, the program isn't putting plywood over the doors to the gym just yet. As Raider24 stated in another post, they will be young but scrappy. Should be a great year. Good luck to all the young ladies in the area and I hope for health and success for all.
