I will be totally honest and this is just my opinion, for anyone to have a problem with WOS still being RANKED, YOU NEED TO EMAIL OR CALL YOUR FAVORITE TEAMS HEAD COACH AND ASK EM WHY THEY DIDNT WANT TO PLAY EM..
For WOS to go out and play NEDERLAND, NEWTON and CROSBY says alot. Teams dont want to play em so they went out and played the only other teams who couldn't find games.. MUCH RESPECT!!

That’s what happens in a everyone gets a ribbon World we live in , kinda makes the prize at the end worthless unless they work for it.

Great program?: 
Genetics/athletes for starters, transfers (winning and facilities will draw people), consistent coaching (not a new AD every time you have a bad year), community support (is vital), favorable size/classification (that's a big deal in football), steady homelives (it's hard to win with kids that are in constant survival mode), and sometimes having a good game when another team (better team) doesn't.  
Make no mistake..every single school in the state is aspiring to win as many games as possible and every coach in the state has a goal of winning it all.  Not everyone gets to.  Most don't, in fact.  There are definitely some qualities that consistent powerhouses possess and I listed some of them but not all.  Sometimes you don't need every single thing listed to have success.  Sometimes it takes what was listed and more.
 
I was pleasently surprised by some of the comments on this thread by the way.  Maybe people are starting to realize some things..

I don't think we can beat Newton THIS year, but we are playing 2 animals back to back. With that said, we haven't taken a beating like that since the 70's. I would expect a good game plan and a good effort Friday night. We will match up better with the Eagles than we did against Carthage. Our kids are proud. They won't take to kindly the whipping they got last week. I believe a closer game is coming than some expect. 

WOS 56, BC 0. They're gonna send a resounding message that they're still one of the best teams around.

Been raining on and off entire game. Not ideal for mustangs , but they are making it work.

Good thing the Mustang's made it til halftime so they can rest. 

WOS might get beat by a better team every once and a while but the one they they will never be is tired...

Some of y'all already know, but my last day at the Enterprise is next Friday. I'm moving back to Phoenix (my hometown) for the time being and will be doing some freelance for high schools/college sports. Just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on here for reading my stories and interacting, especially over the last year and a half or so I've done mainly high schools. I'll still be active on the site and following along after I leave, but just wanted to let everyone know that the coverage will be different come October.

Imo Don’t think it’s a down year just yet, one point loss to the bulldogs and then get in a good practice with lcm , then Newton which could possibly beat most Setx teams this year, so can’t say they are down just yet.

This team is special and I hope all Newton fans soak it up because its probably a once in a lifetime occurrence of having so much talent on a Newton team. We have witnessed good teams over the years but none with this many talented athletes. In the past we would enter games knowing we were good but not sure if we would leave with a victory. We had tough battles and usually won most of them. Won 4 State Championships and had the opportunity for more. This team is different.  This team is Special. They take away almost all the doubt of not winning. This Newton team is set on kill. They are programmed to win and leave no room for doubt. Last years team was almost the same but we as fans didn't realize our potential or what was in our corner. Our coaching staff is great. They have developed and placed talent in proper place. They have created a football machine that is pound for pound the best in the nation and State of Texas in their 3A division . One that can step from their divisions and conquer many upper divisions. This thread is very interesting. The talk about coaching and the qb is crazy. Teams get better as the year progresses. Heck in 2016 Carthage wasn't very good until something clicked after we eeked by Silsbee. 16-0 isn't the only way you can win state. I'm from Carthage and I seem have more confidence than some of you WO-S fans. Yall lost to a phenomenal team. Learn from it and try to get back to AT&T. Funny how some of you had full confidence in the staff during the winning streak but not enough confidence that they can coach a team not as talented back to Austin.

That’s what I’m talking about, get past this Crosby game without any injuries and see what happens.
