Sounds like they've really put it together this year. Hope they go Div. 1. ;D
I'm pretty sure they'll be D2.
Yea, I looked it up after I posted and I think you're right. Unless something really weird happens in 24-4A. My guess is FW & Dawson div. 1. Manvel & whoever steps up div.2. I'll go with Manvel as distict champs.
It will be a dogfight for these 4 slots. FW defense is reeling and we have lots of injuries. Order - Manvel, Lamarque, Dawson, FW, Ball, Santa Fe, Texas City
You are most certainly correct in your observation of how tough things are going to be in 24-4A to say the least! I don't really see Dawson being better than 'da Wood nor do I see Ball ahead of Santa Fe due to the facts that Ball is performing less than expected while Santa Fe has seemingly balanced their offense for pass and run Their achilles heal has been in the past that they have typically relied on running the ball while not being able to match the speed of other 24-4A opponents. I do know this though...everyone in 24-4A is worried about each of their district foes and looking over their shoulders because with a stable of pretty solid teams (4-5) in district there will be no room for mediocre play otherwise, a really solid team will be at home for the playoffs, including LM!
I know , at first I had Fe ahead of Ball, but it just did not feel right. I am telling you, our D is going to allow teams to beat us!! Will be a very interesting year!! The 4 playoff teams will be good!!
You gotta keep one eye on Santa Fe or they will jump up and bite ya if you're not looking. Remember, in years past the Injuns have taken out average Texas City teams in district play 2-3 times before and what I've seen of Ball has been average at best. They cant seem to shake the bonehead plays and be consistent and there is no reason why they shouldn't have put up at least 35 on HISD's Wheatley. Granted Santa Fe has a history of playing powder puff non-district games but in the past few years they are improving vs. district foes. Of course, we don't have a lot of room to talk as far as scheduling goes with having played only Terry, Wheatley and B-Port in the pre-season this year. To make things more interesting in a hurry for us our 1st district opponent is guess who....Manvel!
I'm surprised as well but I'm gonna have to check the write-up to see what transpired? Perhaps they don't come as advertised because with the basic nucleus still intact from last year I was expecting more out of them this year. However maybe Oak Ridge is just flat-out better than Dawson?
After looking at the stats it appears that Dawson had a bit of trouble with turnovers. They lost 2 fumbles and threw 3 INT's (one for a pick 6) but Oak Ridge ran up 361 total yards (Dawson had 303) but perhaps the 5 turnovers dug a hole for them which may have been too much to over come?

No disrespect but they might wanna revamp that 1st round loss by LM at the hands of Terry as the Coogs handled them quite easily 27-7 last night but who knows stranger things have happened? Actually LM better ensure they grab one of the 4 playoff spots in the first place with a pretty balanced district to get through before seasons end...lol!
I hope the rest of region 3 is taking notice. VERY IMPRESSIVE. Only loss was Dawson which played a highly ranked 5a school. SANTA FE surprised me a bit with the way they manhandles Barbie Hill. Thought they could win but expected a close one.
I agree about Santa Fe...however for a running team with adequate team speed putting 35 on the board was surprising. Must have been more to the overall story there?

Angleton vs. Friendswood updates..FW Wins/Comments

Angleton was not disciplined and had no game except for Diggs. If Diggs was in better shape he could have had at least two more scores. He got tired after several long runs and his production really fell off. Friendswood was well coached and in better shape. Friendswood offense was some kind of awesome. Pete Meatzold at QB was smooth, polished and in control at all times. His arm is stronger this year and his accuracy is dead nuts on most of the time. He dropped a 30 yd TD over a recievers outside shoulder that was incredible. FWD starting left tackle Compton, is 6-3, 308 lbs, and just dropped a 4.9 40 at an A&M camp this summer, needless to say, he is going to A&M now. Rest of line is huge too. WOS picked the wrong year to play FWD I think.
WOS is fast man, they are fast!!
With all due respect to WOS speed is great but Diggs and a few others have nice wheels as well but I've seen spread offenses pick apart defenses no matter the speed ala Stephenville vs. us in State championship games where they beat us every time (4, I think). The DB's need to be able to cover (man) well and most importantly the defense no matter who it is better be well conditioned because 'da wood likes to run you ragged and wear ya down to negate your speed. I'm not saying who will win that game but just adding my 2 cents...looks to be one heck of a ball game! Oh yea, if your D-line and LB's aren't in the backfield quickly & often it will make for a long night and they have some Angus on that O-line. -
