  1. Just using a little humor fish......the answers to why could be limitless......I do know schools want to make their hires before going to coaching school ......and no coach want to have to find a job at coaching school........ and the end of July is vastly approaching........ Years of experience alone will help HF in both sports
  2. Coach with no job= round peg................School with no coach= round hole.........lol Best of luck HF!! lots of plus for the football program in this move...I'm guessing.....
  3. I'm not sorry if this gets taken the wrong way.....this has been the typical train wreck you don't want to look at but cant turn away from....and none of you can see it because your all buried under the rubble.......I am embarrassed for all of you and this thread!!! 5 and 6 year old kids are playing a game....5 and 6!! people keep saying remember the kids.....think about the kids...but from what has been posted I'm certain no on really means it. Competition is great for kids....but you have mentioned coaches wanting to fight......moms wanting to fight......parents yelling at their own kids as well as kids that are on the other team.......complaining about umpires in a 5&6 year old baseball game.........predicting who is going to win, again 5 and 6 years old?? former coaches saying how much "pressure??" these coaches are under to win because it's win or go home??.......WHAT PRESSURE?? THEY ARE 5 and 6?? We wonder all the time about why more and more kids quit sports at an earlyer age?? Really, we have to wonder?? Like i said you cant see it because your all under the rubble. I'll try to end with a little laughter although the ones that get it will say hmm.....rather then laugh.........maybe both....? How close are we from husbands having their pregnant wives playing baseball and both mommy's and daddy's yelling at belly's because what's inside didn't make mommy run fast enough, or throw it to the right base, or hit the ball hard enough. How upsetting it will be when every major league scout is not present at the birth to sign them up for the majors................. Baseball is the greatest game to teach us about life but if the game is done wrong.....life gets a bad rap......Before you leave for any game....parents....take a step back..look in the mirror...say 'it's for the kids'...... and really mean it!!
  4. Comparing the success of Nederland Babe Ruth and the success of Nederland High School is a very laughable statement........lol I would venture to say the people who run Nederland Babe Ruth would say the same thing.............played there myself many moons ago...even played with the current Nederland Head Coach on, I think, Jimmy Rollins team(think that's his last name)........and I'm not from Nederland. Which is how it's still run today.....kids from out side of Nederland get an opportunity to play "extra baseball." Then at the end of the season a very complex group of kids from all around the triangle make up those teams that go far in "what ever they call their all-star's". You are very miss informed if you think the "Starting nine" for Nederland is what gets to the World Series.......
  5. Don't know if Shane Reyenga has put in for it or not but he was a member of the '92 state finalist team from BC.....to me could be a good pick....currently at Lumberton.....??
  6. Reds set to bring up prospect Bruce Touted outfielder was leading International League in batting By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com Jay Bruce was the Reds' first-round selection in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft. (Keith Srakocic/AP) CINCINNATI -- The time is finally now for Jay Bruce. Bruce, considered the consensus top prospect in all of professional baseball, will be promoted to the Reds from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday and make his Major League debut in Cincinnati against the Pirates. In 49 games with Louisville this season, Bruce led the International League with a .364 batting average and 67 hits. The outfielder also had 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.023. Since May 3, Bruce was batting .456 (36-for-79), with 13 multihit games in his past 20. This season, it was never a question of if Bruce would be called up, but when. "He was ready for some time, but we wanted to give him more time and give more opportunities to the guys we have here," Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said. "When Jay comes up, he'll play a lot. We wouldn't bring him up and not play him." The Reds were off on Monday after returning from a seven-day West Coast road trip. A corresponding roster move to make room for Bruce will be announced before Tuesday's series opener at Great American Ball Park. Bruce, the Reds' first-round Draft pick in 2005, will become the regular center fielder. It's been an unsettled spot with leadoff batter Corey Patterson batting just .201 with a .242 on-base percentage. Ryan Freel has played well when in center field but will remain in a utility role. The struggling Patterson could be the likely candidate to come off the roster, especially after he went 0-for-8 in Sunday's 18-inning loss at San Diego. But the wheels were already in motion to promote Bruce before the weekend. "It's something we've been discussing during the road trip," Jocketty said. "We just didn't see any sense in bringing him to California for a couple of days. So we decided to wait until we got back." Where Bruce bats in the lineup will be up to manager Dusty Baker, who tried the prospect in the leadoff spot during a few exhibition games during Spring Training. Bruce is considered a five-tool player. After he was cut from the club at Spring Training, he was told to improve his baserunning skills. The only other issue Bruce has is his high strikeout rate. He struck out 45 times in 184 at-bats this season. But the Reds are comfortable enough to let him improve his plate discipline at the big league level. Other than at Spring Training this year, Jocketty hadn't seen Bruce play in a game until last Sunday, when he visited Louisville. In that game, Bruce went 2-for-4 with a home run. The two also spent some time talking. "It just confirmed what everyone had been telling me," Jocketty said of Bruce's skills. "You like to see guys from the organization that are good kids get an opportunity. He certainly has earned it." Mark Sheldon is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
  7. Bruce "Almighty"!!!!!!!!!!! Jay is just an absolute 'freak' right now at the plate. Since Cinco de Mayo, Jay has spiced up his average to .366 in 39 games. 9 2b's 5 3b's and 8 HR's along with 33 rbi's. In his last 10 ball games Jay has 22 hits 11 for extra bases in 36 AB's for a .611 average.............just today Jay went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, and a HR!!!!!!!!!
  8. Jay Bruce........a little summer sizzle........... In his last 7 Full games Jay is 17 for 28 (.607 ave) with 4 2b's a triple and 2 Hr's and has 8 rbi's. In two of those games Jay hit safely 4 times (4 for 5, and 4 for 4).
  9. What a friday!!..........LCM vs NED.............PNG vs Vidor...wow
  10. Your calling out things on the bases of ONE GAME and HEARSAY..............lol....that's not a very good practice to keep........why should anyone provide you with anything to retract what you said............ONE GAME and HEARSAY.......lol....you shouldn't have even posted...........lol
  11. what facts do you have showing he has "repeatedly been over 120 pitches??'
  12. In my opinion....vidor has the toughest finish of the 5 teams trying to fill those three spots. PN-G: Lumb.........Vidor............Central............Dayton Vidor: Central.......PNG............Ozen...............LCM LC-M: Dayton.......NED............Lumb...............Vidor NED: Ozen.........LCM.............Dayton............Lumb Ozen: NED..........Lumb...........Vidor..............Central PN-G at worst goes 3-1 with a lose to vidor at best possible 4-0 run Vidor vs PNG, Ozen and LCM makes for a tough finish would definitely be battle tested if it made it through those three games!! LCM two key games are Nederland and Vidor I say they go 4-0 to 3-1 to finish out. Nederland two key games come in a row with tonight against Ozen and Friday vs. LCM. They cant afford one bad inning in those two games. Ozens two key games are Nederland tonight and Vidor next Tuesday and their in the same boat Nederland is in...playing with nothing to lose............and those can be the worse teams to play this time of the season because you never know!!! good luck to all teams...........man, how fun is this!!!
  13. just my take......I don't like the fact that the two players names were mentioned at the beginning......tasteless.....it's a school situation not for all of us to know the kids involved.......... If a coach asks you to avoid something and the best intrest in mind is for the student to avoid it............it should be avoided.........period!! The coach obviously felt strong about what he said. plus.....in today's world kids don't want to listen, they want to give excuses for what they are doing, or have done, and or, what they are going to do...instead of being accountable for themselves. 15 to 20 years ago a coach said jump, you jumped and worried about how high he wants it next....with out question!!
  14. I know BH has hit the gold mine this year with it's 4 great arms......that's a rarity..If you didn't go 4 plus rounds I'll be surprised.....but...keep passin' the word around PNG only has one pitcher to your district...that's fine Just keep thinking PNG only has one pitcher............it will work to PNG's benefit..JMO
  15. Again just my opinion.......I think it would have to be someone who, at least from the beginning of district has been a productive contributor to the varsity squad. It would not (or should not) be someone who saw 3 games, got 5 ab's and 2 hits and you say....well he hit .400 on varsity as a freshman. You can say it all you want....it would be unfair for this fictitious player to be nominated......... but I would want the guy that batted .333 played every game and maybe even was a factor in his team making the playoffs.
  16. just my opinion....... but you don't give the "Rookie of the Year" award to someone who plays in the minors........... no matter how good their Major League club is..........I think it should be a freshman who, not only plays, but is a major contributor to his "Varsity" team.
  17. lol........ BH has the Brooks number the past two years........no doubt (even last season with the offence WB had). yet the only local 4a team with a victory in ,at least, the past 3 years vs WB is ......(wow) Ozen (also against the mammoth lineup WB had last year). Even in a 'down year' WB with a victory tonight will be sitting in THIRD PLACE in a very competetive 5a district......... GO BROOK!!!
  18. I'm pretty sure that one of the criteria is to be on varsity and play...a Scoggins didn't show up on the roster as of last week... same for wilson at west brook
  19. "If the runner was rounding third ( I don't know, wasn't there ) yes he scores. Inadverdant(?) whistles may stop play in roundball..apples and oranges. If the correct call was made to begin with (from what I'm hearing) the runner, who was alledgedly rounding third, scores. Continuation. Ask 643, he gives a great refresher course." by EAGLE07 If the correct call (in your opinion) was called, or as your saying if he were called safe, the first basemans reaction should have been to turn and check the lead runner at third........ the entire play from contact, to short, to second, to first, took 4.3 seconds....... runner from second might have just rounded the bag but you don't give continuation to a dead play....period There is nothing apples and oranges about stopedge of play in any sport.....just because some sports use whistles and baseball does not......stopedge of play does occur. When you have a third out call play is haulted until the ump puts the ball back into play for the first pitch of the next inning. Again regardless of the appeal the play died when the third out call was made at first base.....period......no continuation Let me reiterate.....I could care less on the game outcome........but if this comes up again it needs to be the right call all the way around........since all of us are playing what if's.........what if that runner would have been the game winning run........or better yet what if it happens again, but this time the outcome keeps someone home from the playoffs, only to find out the player should have been placed back on third and you had another chance to get that one out........this is my only beef.......good luck to both teams!! Mr ump 1......not wanting you guys to be perfect....just hope were still learning!! and as for 643....no
  20. I could care less about the out come of this game......but i do care that the call be made right...(for next time)........so, your telling me you would allow that run to score just because the runner had 'rounded third'...??....when a third out call was made (which stops all play)....then time was called (which stops play)............?? If an inadvertent whistle blows before someone shots a 3 pointer.........do you think they are going to say, OK will let the points count because he made it, even though I blew my whistle before the shot attempt was made?? When that third out call was made (and I'm still assuming it was the third out by the reaction of all fielders in purple) The inning was over, regardless of the appeal. This is along the same lines (but different because it was a force out) as a tagged third out in a rundown, at another base, as another runner advances to make it to the plate before the tag is made........tag made before=no run, tag made after=run scored....still goes back to stopedge of play by the third out call. another ex [ automatic single to right field right fielder guns someone out at third base for the third out, third base umpire is asked to appeal to another umpire to see if the tag was made, call is changed ..........you would not award the batter second base just because he touched first before the third out call was made...then changed to safe].......?? cold showers also help wake you up.....lol
  21. wow, first of all what a game.......... Things about the video replay 1) You can make the guy look out and you can make the guy look safe depending on when you pause. 2)From the angle of the video, as the catch was made the first basemans foot appears to be side by side with the inside part of the bag. (still cant say he was touching or not....the angle....looks like he was) 3)He was not there late the throw took him towards rightfield. 4)After the catch he steps off giving the appearance that he was trying to re-toe the bag.....my opinion he was keeping balance after the throw took him in that direction. 5) The first base coach rightfully asked for an appeal and the ump threw his hands up.....stopping play.......and granted the request of the first base coach. Things the umps did get wrong!! There is no way the runner was on home plate when time was called. that would be saying he made it from second base to the plate faster then the guy made it from home to first.......not going to happen I don't care about the lead at second. Should have been two out and runners on first and third..... at best...or worse depending on the side your on....lol **runner should not have been called safe at home. 1) a third out call was made 2) time was stopped by the first base umpire 3) the runner is not "Carl Lewis".......lol One play never costs anyone the ball game...........TCB early and plays wont haunt you later.........
  22. like it use to be??........it is now like it use to be......Central fans scratching their heads wondering why they didn't just stay at home and watch 'the tailgate party'..........
