  1. I got bad news for you mid-county folks. For the next few years at least, if you want a shot at District, you're gonna have to hunt that trophy down in the woods of Hardin or Tyler Counties.
  2. Be careful, stay out of the way and once it erupts........bring plenty of marshmallows.
  3. My new prediction will be based on consistency and the players knowing ahead of time what their coach expects: 1. Lumberton 2. Livingston ( Lumberton has started the strongest the last two years) 3. Vidor 4. Nederland There will be two X-factors out of three new coaches of course being PNG and Central. LCM I don't think has any standout players although with the right coach, who knows and Ozen because they no longer have their pick of players won't be a real factor until the coach can convince some young men to stay in that school
  4. Even if we did become a passing team, we don't have the speed to compete with the fast corners and receivers like Central and Ozen have. Call me what you like, my fellow Vidor fans included, but I am a realist. I think we have a potential to make the playoffs and a slim possibility of a district championship down the road. But I don't see us ever in the state championship, as the playoffs are where the faster teams from around the state end up. First off RustedCutlass, I am a realist as well. Vidor will NEVER become a passing team. Vidor does not develop passing QB's at the junior high level and therefore will never have a throwing QB. With the offense that Vidor attempts to run, all of the athletes prefer not to play QB. I can think of only one QB that was developed in the past 8 years. Second, you do not need to have speed to match up against Central, Ozen or any other team. Team speed does not win football games. Next, Vidor possibly will make the playoffs only because there is now four playoff spots. heck, why don't we just take all the teams from each district and let them all in. The odds are just in their favor compared to three. This rule change was the best thing that could have happened to Mathews. It's a shame that he can win 3-4 games games a year and keep his job. If my productivity level at my job was at 30 to 40 percent, I would be fired. I'm just glad we aren't playing Gulf Shores Academy any longer. Vidor will NEVER win a state championship. Coaching wins championships. I have a new name for the Vidor O, they should be called the Energizer Bunny Offense. The reason, when L-Town played them, what I saw was an entirely renergized team when they came out after half time. Lumberton didn't play their best game but Vidor came out so strong, I'm not sure we'd have stayed with the Pirates anyhow. the only thing I could figure was their Gatorade was Red Bull instead.
  5. See you Dayton Burros at the dinner in Silsbee.......LOL........Just pickin'. :
  6. If you ask me, the only reason there are 4 teams in the playoffs now, is so that the number 1 seed can get a live game practice in before the real tough games start. Of course that can come back and bite you right in the butt too, just ask the L-Town fans.
  7. Personally, I remember the Rainbow Cafe in Liberty as being a great place to eat.
  8. dodge has around 500,000 reasons to gut it out as long as he can in Denton. For $500K, most would stand on their ear.... Just so the numbers don't get ridiculous, here is a statement that i copied from and article on coaches salraies from the Austin American Statesman, and I quote "* Five coaches in the state earn more than $100,000, with the largest salary going to Ennis High School's Sam Harrell, who earns $106,004." So, although, HC's definitely make more that teachers, no one is in the half mil area.
  9. Keep in mind, our players tend to be more acclimated to this areas heat, just like players in West texas are acclimated to the heat there. I agree there is probably something more to this and that the coach isn't at fault here. The boy may have had an unknown ailment.
  10. 222 days until ZERO week. BTW, I'm using August 28th as the 0 week date in case anyone is wondering.
  11. They should release the list of applicants, and if one says it may jeopardize their current job then list that person as "Applicant - Houston Area" or whatever area they are from or they could list "Name withheld at applicants request". Of course then the newspapers and media would go nutso wanting that persons name
  12. It probably WAS a case of the head Football Coach being the highest paid coach, so some administrator in the past piled the title and responsibility on them. Plus I would bet, high schools have participated in organized football much longer than most other sports, of course that's just my personal speculation.
  13. Hussey wasn't near as big, fast, or as good as Hanna. true Hussey wasn't as big as Hanna, but for speed and skill.....oh yeah he was. That kid has extremely good eyes and field presence for a running back. If you've ever watched him, he is all the time looking around for the next little hole to squirt through. and hussey was veryyy allusive, but could duck his shoulder and run you over I can remember watching him run once last year where he literally ran under i guy who was flying in the air from a dive, he physically looked up at the guy, ducked his head a little lower and passed right under him. the he tucked that shoulder and mowed down the next guy. It was awesome.

  15. Everyone around here knows the L-Train......
  16. The point I was trying to make is right in this statement by StevieRay and I quote "You're right, it's not easy and it shouldn't be....I was given a free education, so I didn't mind all the time and hard work that I was asked to do....I owed the university my best effort and they got it." I know it takes tons of talent and hard work to earn a scholarship to any school, I still to this day regret turning down the scholarship to Northwestern Texas in order to go into the Army. My point is that if you are given this opportunity, you should have to honor the ENTIRE commitment. If you go pro then you should pay it back, then the university has that much more money to help another student through plain and simple. Plus it would slow the talent drain from the university.
  17. Today I glanced over yet another article about a college football player having decided to stay for his senior year and this gave me an idea. Since a full scholarship in a sense is a paid contract to play for that school, they should put certain stipulations in that scholarship (contract). The First being that if an athlete goes pro and does not complete his/her college education, including graduating, he/she should be required to repay in full the cost of providing that education. Also, if they don't finish because of academic reasons again they should have to repay at least a portion of the scholarship depending on the outcome of an investigative committee as to the reason fro failure. After all, when one of those kids leaves and goes pro, it's not like they don't have the money to repay what was given to them for free. Just think how much money this would save colleges.
  18. You know your linebacker is good when he gets nominated AND makes the team without finishing the season, Anthony Beard remember went out after the PNG game and had surgery. I can't wait to see him terrorize QB's next year.
  19. He's good at running back too, how many yards against Nederland? 320
  20. I hear Daytons' Defensive line for next year already has a nickname, it's not the chain gang or the steel curtain.... :.....I heard their name is the Swiss Cheese Gang...lol. ;D ;D 229 days until ZERO week...........
  21. For Lumberton, WOS stands out as the only team they've NEVER beaten in a regular game. Next would be PNG then Vidor, I guess you could add Dayton in there .
  22. Actually with Hooks' ability to somehow end up with the super star players moving into the area, Dayton doesn't stand a chance, WOS will get him. His family will be given a great job where all they have to do is show up for football games. If they can't find a place to live that's okay, Coach hooks will find them a location. Also, the player will be put into EP (easy pass) classes to make sure he's eligible. You know, the hard ones like, Art Appreciation 1, Bachelor Living Beginner, Rap for Future Stars Advanced, Basic Interviewing (The Basics of How to Say Hi Mom on the camera), Advanced Interviewing (Giving Credit to Your Teammates, Although You Know Your the Only Reason the Team Won.), Slight of Hand (useful for gouging opponents while in a pile) and of course Athletics. :
