  1. Coaching is not the issue. Last years team went 2-8 as sophmores. It is a similar cycle this year. The seniors have really put the effort into this season, but no fault of their own, there just wasn't that many of them. Underclassman are all over the field on both sides of the ball. Nederland, for majority of the games, have been really competetive. Too many stretches were mistakes/turnovers are made that snowball quickly and are too difficult to overcome. I share in the frustration that we continue to make these mistakes and are not learning from them more quickly. The future is bright for Nederland. Receipts are being kept. I am thankful for Coach Rich and the rest of the staff for everything they do for our kids. Some of these posts would make you think that we do not work on anything, but nothing could be farther from the truth. I know there is a lot of people around our community who are disapointed with this season, but I assure you, these kids and coaches are more upset about it than they are. There will not be a lack of motivation for next year that is for sure.
  2. Obviously I can’t answer for everyone, but like you, I also know many who share the same thoughts I have.
  3. We love him and the rest of the staff! They are pouring into our kids and we are thankful for that. The amount of senior leadership we lost last season is proving to be the difference. A lot of lessons are being learned by our young team but they fight until the very end. Better make the most of your opportunity now because Nederland is going to be loaded for the next several years with a coaching staff that is more than capable of getting the most out of them, both on and off the field.

  6. My takeaways from last nights game: Nederland definitely took a step forward from the previous week’s performance. That’s all you can really ask for at this stage in the season. Keep improving each week and by the time district and the games that really matter come around, you are playing really good football. Nederland outplayed WOS for three quarters and then we started playing not to lose. Play calling became ultra conservative and really put the stress on our defense. I get it and I’m not questioning the coaching staff, but that can invite unnecessary trouble. Nederland played a cleaner game, made plays when they had to, and mastered the “bend but don’t break” defense. WOS didn’t make the plays when they needed to and discipline on both sides cost the mustangs a lot of yards. WOS cleans that up and they execute just a little better and they are going to be fine. Great early test for both teams and onwards and upwards from here.
  7. I thought the defense played well. The 1’s allowed one TD in each portion of the scrimmage. The 2’s allowed a couple but I would expect a 6A school to have more depth than us. I think Nederland is going to be pretty solid again this year. They will improve each week as we did before. Not sure what Lumberton has but I believe they were pretty young last year. I’m not expecting to blow them out as bad this year, but Nederland should win comfortably. I hope both teams learn a lot from this game that they can use to build upon.
  8. The qb room is in good hands, not only this year, but years to come. I think Nederland will be out to prove that last year wasn’t a fluke and build off the success Coach Rich brought in his first year.
  9. Why would you wonder that? Coach Barrow has a son on the coaching staff and his brother, so yeah, I’m sure he watched it and I’m sure he is glad Nederland won. Anyone who knows Coach Barrow knows that he loves those kids and wants it for them as much as anyone. Coach Rich is doing an amazing job and I hope it continues for a long time, but to act like Coach Barrow would put his own pride before the success of the players is just flat out wrong.
  10. I think Nederland has become much more balanced than at the start of the season. Sunday has been playing really well and so has the offensive line. The competition is about to get a lot tougher but I expect Coach Rich will have several wrinkles we haven’t seen. Losing Ladner this past Friday was a huge blow and it will take everyone stepping up to fill his absence.
  11. Not many positives Lumberton can take away from last night unfortunately. I guess the silver lining is it can only get better. Lumberton players were not prepared and that’s on the coaches, so I hope they are doing some reflecting on where they need to improve also. It’s one thing to be overmatched, it’s another to be overmatched and commit so many self inflicting penalties. No excuse for that and that is 100% coaching. Prayers for Nederland LB #8. Hopefully his injury heals quickly and he can get back onto the field asap. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season!
  12. Neeerland defense is legit. Probably the best LB core in the area. Lumberton will struggle all night trying to move the ball. Debuts for both head coaches will have both teams hyped out of the gate but no way I see Lumberton scoring twice unless against the backups in a blowout. Even then though, I don’t see it. Nederland 41-0. 7/7 in extra points is tough in HS.
  13. Nederland carries them for about 3 1/2 qtrs before delivering the knockout. Ned wins 43-38.
  14. We have a barn burner at HT. 19-19
