Inaccurate post.  And it's only brought up when the big loss happened.  Salary isn't an issue when winning happens.  Actually, the last few successful coaches that's came through BISD and left WASN'T because of salaries...  Smh.

I wonder what Moody used LC-M for when he was there?

I'm well aware of why the last coach left. I'm a WB fan. My fault is with BISD for not paying what it takes to keep the good coaches. If you're hungry and talented trying to make a name for yourself. West Brook is a good spot for a few years to win. And then go to Houston Dallas or San Antonio to go get paid.

Money has nothing to do with the loss everyone entitled to an off game.  The comment was if you like to keep a good coach it costs money. BISD doesn't pay.

Same thing with teachers. Unless you are just so in love with Beaumont its hard to turn down the bonuses, better pay, less work and newer schools in Houston.

As for the LCM comment????? I don't get it.  And why you're trying to get personal?  I like west brook (my reasons are personal but valid) unlike half the commenters on this thread. You're barking up the wrong tree.

Like I've said before Until Westbrook gets a really good hard nose, no nonsense coach  it'll continue to be the same story, No matter how Good the players are

    2ND TIER

Gotta pay to play. BISD doesn't understand 6a coach salaries start at 115K. They're barely paying 5a salaries. That's why they can't keep the good ones. WB is now a stepping stone job.

  2. Was it homecoming? Those games used to full no matter who Lincoln or TJ was playing. Ima chalk that up to the hurricane and people still getting their lives back together.

You learn nothing playing a team like Livingston. They were beat before the schedule came out. I wish PA the best of luck in the playoffs and if you're lucky enough to see temple again, kick their teeth in this time.

  4. I started to really vent on this and thought better of it.  I'm not from Livingston but my children go to school and play here and its really frustrating for me. I didn't expect to beat PNG Port Arthur Nederland and Vidor but I expected competitive play and if the ball bounces a certain way you never know... I don't think those are unreasonable expectations.

Port Arthur should score 70, just like Ned and PNG should have.

Depends on where the bottom number for D I is for Nacogdoches. They turned in 1674 two years ago. Has their numbers dropped significantly?

That's the first I heard of Nac. You also have Dayton and Barbers Hill which will be D2 5A. They they could go to beaumont or to I69. I think i69 is closer.

  6. They're not even competitive. I don't know if I want to see them against Sam Houston State. The Kats are going to hang 70 on the Cards.  Why didn't we hire an experienced coach. Why are we doing things cheaply.  I'm tried of sending my money there for such a less than mediocre product.

Idk about that, if Central and Ozen combined which probably will happen, there will always be a 6A or two in Beaumont

It ain't that west brook is getting smaller its that Houston Dallas and San Antonio add only 6a and 5a schools. Eventually 2500 will be the 5a cutoff. It might be 2200 this year. So unless Beaumont starts growing or all the schools merge into one its only a matter of time before West Brook plays in what we currently call 5A. Honestly there needs to be a 7A where schools above 3500 play each other and then start the 6a/5a splits.

  8. I wouldn't call beaumont land locked its the fourth biggest port in the country and the second largest military port in the world! The only reason I left 15 years ago was there just weren't many opportunities if you didn't work in the plants. Area needs diversity in industry.

The area isn't shrinking. Thank goodness but it ain't growing either.  There won't be any 6A schools in the area in less than 10 years because of the rapid growth everywhere else.

I knew this talk would come about.  That's definitely NOT the case with Beaumont's population...

Call me crazy but I love Big Money Texas.  Its just not growing and do well as other areas of the state. Places like sugar land sugarland pearland conroe. Frisco Denton and the like were all smaller than BMT less than 20 years ago. Had BMT kept up it would be twice the size it is now. In any case I wouldn't be shocked if in three realignment that west brook finds itself in 5A even with 2500 students while Splendora and Cleveland are in 6A. The growth up here is crazy.

It really all begins on what the ceiling and basement numbers will be when UIL divides 5A into divisions. I actually think 5A DII basement numbers will drop low enough to keep Ozen and Lumberton in 5A and move Cleveland, Huffman and LC-M into 5A.

That will have a ripple effect on the the rest of 4A and 3A DI.

I have been told by folks in the know that UIL will do all it can to eliminate 4-5 team districts and have at minimum 6 team districts. Teams having 5-6 non-district games have been complaining about filling those games. UIL is finally listening.

I think the UIL thinks going with division districts in 5A will help them solve that issue. We will see.

They're a bunch of new schools coming in Houston and Dallas, the cutoff number for 5A is going up not down. Cleveland is making the jump. The only way Ozen stays up is if BISD keeps them there. Lumberton will be interesting do they have an alternative school? If so they stay up.

All these schools we used to think of as small that are northeast of Houston (Cleveland Splendora etc) are going to be 6A in a few years because everyone is moving to be near I69 since its so convenient to downtown. Even Livingston will become a big 5A in the next few years.

Beaumont seem like its the only place in Texas not growing. It's so sad.

Being a UT fan and watching the 2 current QB's, I was wondering the same thing.

I don't think UT best quarterback is on the 40 Arces right now. He's still in Mid County.

As for Elia vs RJ its really splitting hairs. They're both great and as long as they keep winning on Fridays we'll be able to watch both on Saturdays.

  12. I think it ought to be split into two polls- 6A/5A and then everyone else.

WOS is the best program in the area but they wouldn't beat West Brook. And if WOS had to play a 5A/6A schedule week end week out they'd have a few losses.

Not a knock on the above schools, but it's hard to compare the schools fairly when there such a disparity in enrollment. Ranking schools against their peers seems to be a better route.

I believe the Enterprise used to do separate rankings for big schools and small schools in the late 90s early 2000s.

I know there's not a lot of big schools in the area anymore but if there are schools outside the area but they're in the district they ought to be in the rankings. I have the same quibble with the chrons rankings West Brook and WOS need to show up in their weekly area rankings

Y'all are sister papers. You can make it happen.

  13. Since when is Nederland Vidor a rivalry game? Nederland has one rival - PNG.

It's been a better contest the past few years but historically this series has been sporadic and one sided in Nederland's favor. If Nederland had a second rival, it would be West Orange - Stark. WOS has no rival (LCM don't count because 2 wins in 30 some odd games don't cut it).

I guess Vidor got too big for their annual game against Lumberton to call that their rivalry game.

Most schools aren't lucky enough to have a rival that the other team feels the same mutual hate/respect. Just because you play each other every year doesn't make you peers.
