  1. Silsbee will probably name the score they want, sadly. Would have thought by now LC-M would have built a program that could face all comers, but maybe that's asking too much. Oh well, they'll compete in district and get slaughtered in bi-district. The same thing that got Crouch fired.

  2. I think BC and Hargrave are the only winners this week. Most of these games are miss matches so I don't think we learn much about most of these teams, we just hope they come out healthy.

Livingston at Needville may be interesting. If they give the Blue Jays, maybe the Lions could make things interesting in district this year.

Good luck everyone! And stay healthy!

Sports is not part of the curriculum. You don't need it to graduate.

Why you think it is tells me everything about your viewpoint.

Is that supposed to be an insult? I thought we didn't do that on this site. For shame!

If I live in a school district and my child is enrolled in that school district, another school's coach should have no say if my child can participate or not. Additionally, the purpose of the so called extracurriculars is to produce a well rounded citizen.

You need to dig into the history of the amateur movement. It's not noble at all. It has roots in racism, classism, and restriction of economic advancement.

This stupid notion that playing a sport is a privilege needs to go away. You get what you earn.if you're good enough to be on the field you earned it, period. All that talk some pros say about it's a privilege to play is code switching to make a certain demographic feel comfortable. They're playing the game and I don't fault them. Because unfortunately, depending on how you look determines how honest you can be in public.

An good education lasts way longer than any sport.  Especially since most kids don't make it to college or pro sports.

I agree but the UIl still should not stop a kid from playing sports because they moved, no matter the reason.

Man, that would be awful. In smaller areas like SETX the ensuing free-for-all would lead to a handful of super teams leeching all of the talent around their surrounding areas, with lower classification football being crippled beyond repair. It would also turn into bribing and payment scandals.

My response to that is your school needs to do better to be a place kids want to be. Not to penalize people who want to do better.

  6. I know my opinion on this topic isn't popular on this forum, but the days of the UIL restricting kids movement making them sit out a year is coming to an end. The kids have four years of HS; to take away a year because you don't like that they deem your program less than is a you problem - do what's necessary to make it a place where kids want to be. I hope this is resolved before my grandkids are old enough to play, but if not, I'm going to be first in line to file that lawsuit.

Good luck to everyone's teams this year!

Maybe because academics is what school is for. Sports is extracurricular and not mandatory. It's a privilege, not a right.

Most do not want school choice.

Sports is not part of the curriculum. It's extra. One can go thru K-12 without playing any sports and graduate.. One cannot do that without taking some English or math class.

    That's the difference.

No, it's part of the curriculum. And let's drop the narrative that sports it's a privilege. If you're good enough you're going to play. Privilege is when you get something you haven't earned. Throw in the fact that kids get scholarships and NIL for athletics, if a parent wants to move to put their kid in a better program so they can get more exposure, the old school should not have any say so in them playing immediately. It's the parents call.  The UIL is dead wrong on this. If my son was still playing and a coach tried to stop him from sitting up for his new school, I would have sued. Look at what happened to the NCAA.  It's coming for the UIL.

What's wrong with that?  If you can move and put your kid into the best math program, why not for football or any other sport?

  9. UIL rules on transfers stink. if a parent wants their child to play at a different school, they should be allowed transfer immediately with the exception of no in season moves. No more sitting out a year garbage. Everyone wants school choice until it comes down to football. why would you want someone who doesn't want to be there? Parents move their kids for academics all the time. They don't make the kid sit out a year. So what if the move was for athletic purposes. If athletics is part of the school curriculum then parents should be able to put their kid in the best possible spot without any say so from the former school. This has got to stop.

Since going to 4 teams make the playoffs, out of all divisions, how many 4th seeds have played in the final game?

We just have higher expectations than 1 and done. Something that all teams/staffs/fans should be striving for. Not spoiled, but PROUD of what those that built this program up over 40+ years have accomplished. They set the bar so high, especially for themselves. That even CT getting knocked out in the 4th round to the eventual state champion was disappointing. No participation trophies needed here. I'm gonna have to get an updated pic of the trophy case to show you. I'd bet dollars to donuts we have more wooden trophies than LCM has District Championships. That speaks volumes about our tradition of playing our cross town rival. Bears fans complain about it? Should be the other way around. Mustangs have needed to get out of that game for a long time. But we do appreciate the extra 33 wins for the historic winning % record. Couldn't have done it without teams like lcm and BC. Good luck against them this week.

Waiting for someone to say it's Monday.

Y'all really need to miss the playoffs for a few years. Maybe then you will appreciate the hard work your kids and coaching staff put in just to make the playoffs. Making the playoffs is not a birthright. The sense of entitlement on Newton Ave is sickening.

It was disgusting how y'all treated Hampshire Fannett last year after they beat you, like it was all on your coach instead of the longhorns being the better team. Hickman got his team to the playoffs, they just lost to a better team. Happens all the time. Yet y'all want the man gone.

Here's the problem. People ain't moving to Orange. The people who do live in Orange are chosing to send their kids to LCM, Orangefield and Bridge City. People are choosing to move to Hamshire, Fannett, Sour Lake, Lumberton, and Silsbee.

Other areas in the state are growing. Smaller 5A schools are being shoved into 4A and they are 2-3 times bigger than you. The advantages WOS had in the past are gone.  You might have to get used to playing one or two playoff games a year, if you are lucky, until you drop down to 3A. That's what it took for WOS to start winning again last time.

He also says WOS should celebrate finishing 4th in district…

At every level of football except FBS, the goal is to get to the playoffs and hope you have a good run. Your district is tough. Yes, if you finish fourth, you should be happy because you have a chance to play for the state championship. Geez, man, y'all spoiled. Maybe if you miss the playoffs a couple of years in a row you'll appreciate what you have. Mustang fans are insufferable.

Well good. Hes well aware Livingston doesn't have a leg to stang on talking about lcm whippings

Livingston has done well against LCM. Much better than LCM has against the chemical row ponies.

Livingston also competes with and beats its rivals, something I can't say about LCM.

I would like nothing more than to see LCM to pound WOS into the ground every year. The odds of this type of futility is astronomical and frustrating.

I wish LCM all the best, but I don't think they are gonna beat Livingston.

    BTW...

The whole "sky is falling" mentality at WOS is stupid. Even good programs have a down year or two. Blaming Hickman when Silsbee, Jasper and HF have worked to build up their programs up is just sour grapes. Finishing in the top four in that district should be celebrated, not looked down upon. The whole point is to get to the playoffs and see what happens. It's bad when a LCM Bear has more faith in WOS than the mustang fan base.

  13. Tip my hat to WOS. They did what they were supposed to do, gut stomp a mediocre team at home. I don't know how good they are, but maybe they can build on this and have a good run in the playoffs.

LCM needs to drop this series. Nothing to be gained. Last year, they refused to swap home and home due to construction overruns. People not being able to get into the game.

    Its not a rivalry.

  14. IDK. Coach talking about slowing the game down by using a four headed running back committee doesn't sound too promising. That's not winning college football in 2023.

Our sister schools made investments into their football programs and are now FBS. Lamar continues to half-qrse things. I quit writing checks a few years ago because I'm sick of the less than mediocre results.

Lamar, like the Beaumont area, just continues to get left behind while the rest of the state continues to move at warp speed.

I still hate the move back to the SLC. What's Lamar gonna do when McNeese moves up? So disappointing...

  15. Newspapers aren't what they used to be. They used to have full time reporters and hire stringers to cover some of the smaller games. Internet totally destroyed the biz and the local sports fan is probably worse off for it.

Take the BMT Enterprise. They don't even print the paper in downtown so their deadlines get shorter and shorter. And they barely have people in the sports department. No greybeards to teach the young writers about the area and as soon as a writer shows some talent, he's gone because the newspaper won't pay what it takes to keep them. It's a sad, vicious cycle.

The Cardinals might be the worst team in D1 right now. They sorely need a guy like him, but there will be schools in better positions to win that have more cache' (and cash) lining up to hire him that won't care about the PR hit that would come with it.

Might be the worst? Bruh, i don't know if they would qualify for the playoffs in United's district right now. It is a terribly coached team lacking even mediocre Division I talent. Not one starter would be a six man on any other SLC team right now and that's saying something because the Southland is terrible.

The new regime had no ties to the current staff. And if they say they are committed to raising the stature if the school, they find the cash. I haven't wrote a check in a few years because I've been disgusted at the product. Chris Beard would open my pockets again.

Beard and his fiancee need counseling, but bring them to Beaumont.
