  1. Baddog did you see my earlier post? I said "Have you been to any of their playoff games? Did you see they had open all the sections of the dome against Stephenville.Granted this is due to all the support from the sorrounding communities. We have to give credit where credit is due.We don't even have the population to support some of the crowds, but for some reason when we go everyone in the area supports( and it is much appreciated)."

Most of us know this crowd was made up of people from all over our area, but they did sit on our side. That same year we beat Brazosport in the dome and the next week at the LaMarque game I sat by a young couple(the lady was a teacher at brazosport) who said they were from Jasper and it looked fun on our side and wanted to come this week and sit on our side.Like I said , we can't claim all those fans but for some reason they come out and support us when we go. Once again it is greatly appreciated and makes it that much more fun.For the record  I attend most of Nederlands playoffs games whether or not everyone else from our area does or not.

  2. I didnt realize that PNG has only made the playoffs 9 times in the last 30 years.  So tell me why is this such a great job across the state.

a picture is worth a thousand words

  3. I played football at PNG and I played for 3 diffrent head coaches while I was there. In coaching I was on a staff that my head coach was reassigned. Also have been on a new staff coming in after an old coach was run off...

The only comment I will make is that things will get crazy over there!!!!!  It will take the ALL of the parents support for the new coach or a WHOLE lot of wins to bring this community back together...

I'm not saying be disloyal to MB just make sure the new coach...whatever he does...has you FULL support.

"whatever he does" - I played for Malone and personally at the time did not like him. But after he left and now looking back...he made me a better player and I thank him for that. Oh yeah and we WON!!!

I was wondering what happened to Malone. Have not heard anything about him since he left here.

He is coaching in Nebraska( where he is from)and is still fielding some good teams.

I conveyed to him that we were not doing as well and his response was that it will return because PNG can bring in good coaches when they do decide to bring in new leadership. This guy was an assistant under the winningest all time high school football coach in Texas. When we got Malone he came from Tyler with an established top notch 4A program and also Bruce Bush (who was at Gregory Portland, and later to San Marcus) applied. Bush is way up on the all time winningest Texas coaches list. You may say, well that was back in the 80's.It was and the 80's were way worse than anything we have experienced lately. Add to that the fact that we have a top notch facility now that we did not have then and I would have to say the position is much more appealing now than it was in 1989.Does that address your question texans????????

Then their should be no problem getting almost any top 5A or 4A coach in texas to apply for the job.  I hope yall dont try and get our coach from Dayton he will leave for sure

I wouldn't say, any 5A or 4A coach.I would like to have one at the level of your coach. There is a big group of PNG fans that are hung up on Mike Long and there isn't a doubt in my mind we can get way better. I can't see any 5A HC's from an established program wanting to leave, but maybe some 5A OC's or DC's.Well time will tell and we will see, I hope i'm right.

  7. Burnett dont play football, He coach football . It's up to the players to win.

    ???

Do you really not understand what she is saying?  I understand.   :-\ :-\ .  Was that sarcasism?

District 204A is so competitive that coaching is the difference. Look at Nederland year in and year out and at the same time look at Ozen. I promise Ozen usually puts some very talented kids on the field but coahing has failed them. I believe everyone on this board knows Matt Burnett doesn't play , he coaches. It is ultimately up to the kids to win but the guidance from the coach can be the difference most of the time. No sarcasm just questioning the theory.

ozen ALWAYS puts the most talent on the field. either them or central.

    jus no coaching..

Newsflash...Central is in the third round of the playoffs...Seems like some pretty decent coaching to me.

I agree Soulja, you have a very good coach and he is a class act. As long as he is there Central will be a force to be reckoned with. Thats why I referred to Ozen, as much talent as anyone they just can't find the right leader.

Another good example is West Brook, Stump took them from the joke of Beaumont to being a state power. Thats what I was replying to mamajag about, why couldn't " the players" there just win before Stump took over. If it was just one season we could write it off as a good group of kids but I believe he has built a program.

  8. These folks are one of two things:

    1. There were many Burnett supporters within the PNG community, and maybe it is them speaking up now.

    2. Or is it, the outsiders that knew every play we were running before it was called. If I were you I wouldn't want to see him go either. Maybe some remember last time we sank to this level what happened when we brought in a whole sale change. But no need to worry yet, we will have to wait and see if the powers to be hire the right man( and he will apply).

I feel its a little of both.

  9. Seems like you have an agenda when the first post you make on the site is... we gotta fire this DC and then everything will be fine.  Sounds like an agenda, plus it's against the site rules, plus it's idiotic, plus this is the same DC that spearheaded some of the most dominant Nederland defenses to take the field in the not too distant past.  I could plus you to death, but I agree with Brubaker, nice first post.

I agree, your coaches(notice its plural) have built a first class program. Changing anything would be crazy.

I don't put much in 8 - 10 year olds( a lot can change), but must say C.O. Wilsons 8th graders has some of the best talent I have ever seen at Nederland.I would expect big things from these kids.

  12. Without knowing the talent level or being close enough to the situation to render a real opinion, I'll just leave my observations from seeing PN-G for two years.  The kids executed the offense very well but it was very predictable and depended on having road graters for lineman and tackle breaking running backs.  It just looked severly outdated and un-imaginative.  Defense was in fairly good position on almost every play but continued to try and cover wide recievers with linebackers.  It didn't seem to me that the talent wasn't there, it seemed that the talent wasn't being put into positions to succeed.  Sorry to hear that the head coach has stepped down...now it's up to you at PN-G to find the right coach to make it work.  Good luck and I hope to see you (and your amazing crowds) down the road again soon...hopefully in the playoffs.

Very good post and right on the money. The talent comments are a shot while we are down, but if the right candidate is chosen we will be back.

  13. MB will not have a problem finding a new job. He is a GREAT coach and has done a LOT with little talent.  PNG, the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.  Good Luck Mr. Burnett.  As a Nederland fan I love it... This means we should easily smoke PNG the next couple of years as they are trying to adjust to a new system.

Yeah a good example is the freshman team. I agree the grass is not greener if the make the wrong choice. Nederland can attest to that, they went through of bunch of losers in the 80's and early 90's before they got Neumann.

We thought Coach Derouen was bad but then we got Bobby August and really sucked.  Thank God for Neumann, He is worth every penny he is payed.  I think PNG will get a very good coach out of this. As much as I hate to admit it they do have a great tradition, spirit, fans, and facilites.

Ya'll ever get tired of Neumann we will take him.

  14. A lot of people are putting way to much into Coach Long,  he was only good at PNG because he son was the best QB in southeast Texas history.  He has done NOTHING since he has been gone !!!

He was probably one of the best OC in the area. Grant it DL was a heck of a QB but Coach Long had just as much to do with the sucess of that offfense than anyone else.

What makes you think that won't happen again?  Anything changed since the last uprising when kids were getting coached to the bone.

I agree about the big names and I also agree our program would be no better off with Long than it is with Burnett. If PNG wants change then lets have change. Bring in someone with no ties or past history to Port Neches or anyone from Port Neches. The LAST GOOD COACH we had got run out of town by Purple Politics.

Answer me this. Why would you hire a head coach who had a worse record than the guy you are getting rid of?

Kelly Bulldogs went 2-6 this year.

    PNG went 3-6

Well first off im not saying they should hire him. I think alot of poeple are throwing Long's name out there because of the history he has with the program. Im sorry you cant compare Kelly's program to PNG. (nothing against the kids or program against Kelly) but I think Long would have more sucess at PNG cause there is more talent to work with there.

Point well taken although you just hacked a bunch of Kelly Bulldogs off.

If this does happen, I bet there will be some big names apply for the job. It will be interesting to see who all throws their name in the hat.

Honestly Penny, probably not. Thats what is scary. Will mediocre Bobby's dad who happens to be an attorney, doctor or even worse an ex football player for PNG in the 70's, sir up a bunch of cr** because little Bobby is not starting? If so they may get another good one like Malone and run him off.

As you can see I was a fan of Malones. Contrary to what people think he wasn't loaded with talent. He just taught the kids how to win and was one of the best motivators to ever walk on the field at PNG.
