Not sure what the Freshman score was.

Way to go Go Horns. Coach Price and his Staff look to be doing a good job with our boys. I was impressed, him and his Coaching Staff were on the sidelines helping the JV Coaches the whole game. He was not trying to take over he was justing offering suggestions and coaching the boys up.

Been in a problem situation with this before. At a HS softball tournament several years ago, the team I was coaching was leading another team 4-3. We were the visitors but I was keeping the book, for us. The other team had a freshman keeping their book. The kid said it was 3-3 because they had missed a run we had scored. Umpire got with both of us, I showed them what I had and how I had it. The freshman wasn't real sure what she was doing but showed them how she had 3-3. Even though it was pretty obvious I was probably right, the ump went with them because they kept protesting that they were correct and they were the home team. We ended up losing 4-3 in tie breaker. After the game an assistant coach came to us and apologize and also confirm we were right and that the kid didn't know what they were doing, but the HC was trying to get his first win. We never played them again.
that's rediculous, there should at least be a coach keeping the score
It is the same in softball. It is amazing how many people who keep the official books that don't know the actual rules to score keeping. It is both amazing and frustrating to me.

Exactly how would you determine if you were the worlds toughest man and greatest athlete?  Defeat all of the MMA champions? Beat all of the olympic champions in their events? Maybe eat a can of spam with no bread or crackers? :D
A gallon of mustard and a can of spam... oh yeah!

Rob Powell is self proclaimed world's greatest athlete etc, but that is what may be needed to control those meddling HF parents. Heck there is one poster on the basketball board who is a train wreck waiting to happen in 2012(jmho). Hamshire Fannett (LaBelle and Cheek) needs Rob Powell. His website is:

I must come to the defense of my friend. The "poster" is the least of the new coach's worries. I have a son in the same grade as his youngest. I have never seen him present any problem for any coach that has handled either of his sons. How he stays so calm, I will never know. He watches basketball games like they are chess matches. It is amazing to see him sit there and hardly ever move. Although he likes to talk a little smack and get things going over on the basketball board, there is no fear of him ever being a problem.

H-F is a few changes away from competing in football with O-F, H-J,and B-C.  If they get the right person in the AD football spot.
Actually HF is closer to making waves in basketball than football. You certainly want an AD who is going to push the right  buttons to help all the programs.

Dove, it would be wonderful if we could get Jeff Keener back. When he left, he had aspirations of a 5A school and maybe a college position. Now with a wife from Bridge City and two beautiful children, maybe his priorities have changed. Maybe he would want to bring the little wifey and kids closer to grandma and grandpa. He would be a good one to take our basketball boys to where they could go.

Well if this is in all true, any news on who they might be looking at?
I honestly believe that "athletic ability" is a little down right now at HF. I agree with someone earlier who said HF looked overmatched in both size and speed. When you are inferior athletically, our past season is what you get. (in football) I am also aware that there were a lot of injuries and a lot of kids who chose not to play. Why, I don't know. Only they can answer that.

The truth of the matter is, most high school athletic departments are measured by what the boys do. The girls have been contenders in all three major sports for the last three years while only the baseball team has competed in boys. Right now, our middle school has some athletes. If they all choose to stay at HF, we should be competitive for the next three or four years and the new AD will be the hero. If they choose to leave or not play, we can expect more of the same and it will be his/her fault.

The rumor, and I repeat rumor, is they are considering the baseball coach.
  9. Coach Mangan was informed on Friday, Feb. 5th, by Superintendent Elliott that his services were no longer needed. Coach Mangan told a few of the parents this himself at the final middle school basketball games. His release does not become official until the next school board meeting which I believe is on the 22nd. Coach Mangan does have one year left on his contract and I believe he has offered to stay for the remainder of that contract in whatever capacity they can use him.

This coach did do some good things here at HF. The total number of students participating in athletics is up since he started, just not in football. We have a no one gets cut policy, so anyone can participate. Coach's attitude toward discipline is at times a little over the top. While some athletes thrive on it, some of the athletes can not handle it. We all know that kids today are not like we were. The coach was always right and our parents told us to keep our mouths shut and stick it out. In our permissive society, it doesn't work that way. While the total number of participants are up, a lot of "athletes" chose not to play directly under him. And althoug I don't necessarily agree, I believe this led to his ouster.
  10. What needs to be addressed at HF is why are so many athletes not participating. It's not just a boys basketball program, it's a problem throughout varsity sports at HF. In football, we fielded what was substantially a half JV/Half varsity team in football because a lot of kids opted not to play. Look what happened. The same happened in boys and girls basketball. Both are way under average. There are girls missing from softball that could definitely help. Does this happen at every school? That I don't know, but it seems to be an epidemic here. We need to do something to get our best athletes on the field/court if we ever want to compete at anything.

I would have to disagree Tiger05.  HF hasn't "gone up against" any teams that they haven't seen before.  They have been playing the same teams that they play in district since Little Dribblers.  I understand that some players develop faster and/better during the transition from Little Dribblers to Middle School to High School but I know that just as other teams have developed so has HF.  Again, the teams that HF has played whether preseason or district are nothing that they aren't used to.  Their rhythm has nothing to do with who they are playing.  It's an inside job.
To obtain a rhythm I would think you would have to have some repetitiveness in practice and in playing high caliber teams before district

If the answer to my assessment was No than can you answer these questions:

    1. How many teams has your team played before district
That best resembles the best teams in your district

    2. Does your team continuously play the same level of competition even after basketball season
I agree with Tiger05. You need to play competition better than what you see in your district. You do that and the game slows down once district starts. You play a bunch of powder puffs to pad your record and it shows in district. As is happening to HF now, the game is way too fast for them and they can't keep up.
