  1. I'm kinda up in the air in the select vs. league debate.  On one hand, if you don't get your kid in select you risk them getting passed up by others.  If you do and they get burned out then you wasted your money.  When I was little we had 12 league games then a few all-star games and that was it and we moved on to the next sport.  Now some of these teams are playing 80+ games a year at ages as young as 5 or 6 years old!  I was digging through pictures a while back and found my 9 yr old all-star picture.  Out of that team of 15 players only 3 of us ended up playing baseball in HS.  My point is that most of your kids will end up getting burned out before HS anyways, so always make sure they are having a fun with whatever they choose.  I also have a problem with young select pitchers throwing 200 innings a year in all of these tourneys. A growing kids arm is not made to go through that kind of strain, so make sure your select coach is about teaching and safety as opposed to how many trophies he can win in 8 yr old select.  LL has rules to protect the kids where I don't think select does as much.
  2. Use this thread to name some kids that may want give college baseball a shot.  Maybe we can help get some of these kids in school.  Any info you can give will help.
  3. I'm going to go ahead and start a new thread and sticky it at the top.  This one is 2 years old and I am going to start it over. Any players looking to play college ball or if you think they are deserving give their stats on the new thread.
  4. Boutte has 3 State titles on his resume that English doesn't, so it's hard to compare them based on that.  On those championship teams Boutte got to coach Kelvin McKyer, Keith Harris, Steven Jackson, Immanuel McElroy, Kendrick Perkins etc..... Has English ever had a player on the same planet as any of these guys???  I think not!  I'm not knocking Boutte, but the talent level that he got to coach is not even on the same level.

  6. I'm all for the $5 beer!  ;D Last year was the first year in my memory(I think in my lifetime) that I didn't attend at least 1 game.  Hopefully with some of these fan friendly changes I can make a few this year.
  7. Yes announced his retirement at the school board meeting tonight. Further discussion in the Locker room forum [Hidden Content]
  8. Coaches recruit based on character and integrity as well as talent.  Be careful of what you write on social networks, it can only lead to trouble. [Hidden Content]

  10. The Rangers signed Yu to a 6 year- $60 million contract.  So with the bid that equals $18.7 mil a year.  Pretty crazy for an unproven arm. These foreign born, all world pitchers scare me.  Hopefully it works out for Texas.
  11. Dogs are playing keep away and Ozen isn't fouling
  12. Big 3rd quarter for the Dogs 36  -28 Ned after 3
  13. Ned on a run takes their 1st lead of the game. 30-27 Ned.  3:41 3rd
  14. Happy 70th B-Day to Muhammad Ali.  I was too young to see him fight, but grew up as a big boxing fan mainly from watching old tapes and videos of Ali. I really miss the days when boxers actually wanted to fight the best and didn't dodge fights like we have now.
  15. It looks like the NCAA is about to ban 7 on 7 events from being held on college campuses.  The SEC passed this earlier in the year and according to rumors it will be nation wide soon.  7 on 7 has quickly become the AAU for football with all kinds of money being thrown around trying to sway HS kids. Is this that big of a deal?  What about the UIL basketball and baseball championships being held on UT's campus?
  16. Soulja, please step away from that ledge!  ;D
  17. Texas up 21-15 with 4 min left in half.  It's been a pretty ugly game for both teams so far.
  18. Game on now.  A&M leads 5-2 early
  19. 8pm tonight on ESPN2. Who wins?
  20. I've never been a big fan of Texas and A&M rotating years in this tourney.  Hopefully with A&M's move to to SEC, both teams will play in it every year.
  21. Lesner announced his retirement after the fight.
