Judging from the first day of school numbers it looks like Crosby may not have enough freshman to field a full A & B team. Kind of shocking considering we're going to turn in an enrollment number somewhere around 2,100 in a couple of months.

A head scratcher. That 8th grade team last year was packed football and bball.

  2. Whether yall admit it or not 14.2 keeps this thing interesting. 😂Perhaps BH and Crosby relations will improve now that the head coaches are former colleagues. Maybe some of those unsportsmanlike penalties that caused their field to get stomped on won’t be an issue. Anywho I think I speak for all of us, that have witnessed this yrs team in person, this team definitely looks different physically. Never a good sign when other teams DL looks bigger than your OL. That won’t be the case this yr. Remains to be seen tho if these big cats can actually play. I’d imagine the entire district will be better because of how competitive it was last. That only serves to help our teams in the playoffs against these tough region two teams

  3. Participation needs to come up. Nice turnout to Summer workouts. But I’m still trying to figure how Rio had more football players with a smaller enrollment. This years team will be leaps and bounds better than last years team. But I’d imagine the whole district got better as well. Time will tell.

Should be interesting to see how 14.2’s Cougarettes finish the season with the lost of recruited players and having to actually coach home grown players.🙂

The “Cougarettes” will probably  end up in a state cheerleading competition. But the mighty Crosby Cougars will be just fine. Kids are working their tails off this summer. Something about being underdogs makes Crosby more dangerous historically.

  5. Let me get PNG by a score TD or FG. Both talented teams. Just think PNG will come in super motivated to avenge the loss and riding a wave of excitement from going as far as they did last year. Look at PAM to strike first but PNG grinds to a victory over a very tough 4 qrts.  Good game for SETx football

  6. Crosby KO the #3 RB for LH. Blake Simpson was the #1 back and #20 was the #2 back. I would agree if Blake got KO LH doesn’t stand a chance against Crosby that yr. I do believe the outcome is still the same against PNG. That defense was salty asl. They were able to get penetration and disrupt the timing.

She's good on social media but is going to have trouble answering to college personnel directors about a football player's lateral quickness or about a guard's mid-range game. She's really going to be a plus for girls' sports recruiting due to her high activity level on social media though. She's also going to be our head girls track coach which may be concerning to some considering she couldn't really win anything even with all the thoroughbreds North Shore has roaming the campus. This hire was also directed by the supt.

Was that her role at NS head track coach?

It blows my mind that kids are transferring over a coach. Did anyone ever consider that if everyone stayed in their hometown instead of jumping ship for an easier route, they’d be stacked with talent and be successful? Not to mention the fact that the kids would actually learn something so important in the real world like loyalty, dealing with adversity, etc. Just my 2 cents as a mother of a female athlete who’s dealt with mediocre programs in Crosby.

Sidenote, what’s your thoughts on the new recruiting coordinator?

All I know for sure is that she is from Crosby. And that’s she’s already hard at work implementing programs that we didn’t have. Still looking forward to  Crosby having a great season. For whatever reason historically Crosby has done well when they’re not favored to win.

  9. High school football recruiting changed drastically after the portal and covid. There are college recruiters online that will tell you straight up they are looking for someone who fits the bill physically. 5’11 LB is going JUCO 5’8 RB/WR better be a 4.3. Everyone thinks that if you can play you can play no matter the size ,and that may be true, but when your job depends on it you’re probably going with a 6’3 transfer over a LB under 6’. Best bet is to get your kid to put as much on paper/film as possible. That means track, powerlifting, basketball and attending camps.
In regards to Rio the kids he had to work with all fit the bill physically and in the classroom. Netherly, Williams , and Patterson all were all district academics. Nethery 6’2 WR 2nd place in state 400m. Patterson 5’11WR went to state in 200m. Williams 5’8 HB with a laser timed 4.35.

Riordan and Prieto were loved by the players and community, yet both had to leave due to administrative issues. Sounds like Willis might be the right fit after all? I'm sure he'll be overjoyed when he walks out on the practice field and watch kids try to dodge sprained ankles while they karaoke before practice. Maybe he can finally get the new helmets Coach P was asking for or different jerseys than the ones we wore at state three years ago?

The supt. wouldn't even give Coach P money to fix the field house my dad worked out in in the 70's that the kids still use to this day. Crosby is a lot better job on the surface than it is once  you get below it. Nothing near the trajectory it was when Riordan took over for Flannigan.

Rio had an open check book 😂 those days are probably over. At least fix the damn practice f and game field. From what I understand she plans to do that. Rio practices were high energy. Practiced on the game field with music playing. Probably why they had so many false starts. Lol

I agree with you that Eudy needs to the be the QB. But come on, you gotta have more faith in Crosby finishing over .500 (LOL). Seriously I already hear of some issues in the program. That GCM (original Crosby tho) kid you are talking about, I hear some on the staff are playing politics and might not give him the run he needs. Did the same to the older brother. This comes straight from the Dad's mouth, no second hand info. As a Sophomore he was the leading receiver at GCM, so he can definitely catch the ball and pretty decent on the Bball court too.  Well he better sick to football, cause he definitely aint gonna get love from that wanna be BBall coach (ain't worth saying the name). I guess the politic is remnants from the parents moving them 2 years ago, not a talent issue. Thus you have confirmed his abilities as a slot receiver.

All I can/will say is it wasn’t politics. P might have been one of the few coaches in Crosby history that didn’t do politics.

This going to be interesting as a hire. I am not sure how things will work hiring someone that decided to retire then come back out of retirement. Seems like he is well qualified, but was he the best fit for a small town like Crosby (another thread needed for that discussion).

I would’ve liked to see someone younger. He’s had tremendous success at CP but no where else. Someone 36-46 with enough piss and vinegar to get the kids up and buying in. Not a someone their pawpaw age.

Statistically speaking, if you looked at every txhsfb program in the state and counted the number of times a school has had 3 very good coaches in a row, that number is not going to be very high. Meaning the odds are not in your favor that Crosby will be an exception.

If anyone can do it Crosby can at one time we had 3 former CHS coaches in the regional playoffs. We’re a coach factory 😂

I think @AledoAlumni implys it could be a more toxic situation now. Leading to less interest and application.

And having 3 good coaches in row is not unheard of. But if there's no true hiring process and it's a rubber stamp whatever the Supt says. Good luck.

Makes sense. I hate spreading rumors but the word is there were a lot of applicants. I would agree that CHS given everything over the last 5-10 yrs doesn’t sound attractive. But to it didn’t sound attractive when we landed Coach P.
