  1. Cardinalstatechamp15 is a kid and is not being appropriate.  I'm all for back and forth, actually LOVE a good debate, but really no place for a child's immature baiting, just sayin.

admin might want to put the choke on the kid.

and thanks for the site, as a mid county sports fan, and BC baseball super freak I love this site and the regulars that agree to disagree in an adult manner.

  2. All you need is Educational Guardianship to make decisions on a child's school issues.

Nothing against Central/Ozen, etc...BUT if the kid is THAT good there are much better programs in Texas and especially throughout the USA for him to attend.  Kelly, in the past, has allowed basketball kids to go for free.  Yes, even the Catholic's like sport.  there were a couple of PA kids that did this a few years ago, don't remember their names

  3. remember WOSgrad not all districts have Valedictorians.  PNG has top 2%, 5%, etc...

No way a small school can measure up academically, athletically and facility wise.  Do most kids enjoy their small school stuff YES because you can be a big fish in a little pond.  ship a Warren kid to Katy, Allen and see what happens to most, not all. And at a small school the politics are unreal!!  I have taught in a small district and large.  both enjoyable but different.

  4. I teach Economics at a Community College. I have students that come from both large and small schools. A large percentage of my students are Dual Credit high school students taking college classes. On the individual level there are achievers and underachievers from both large and small schools. However, if you look at overall performance of students from large schools versus overall performance of students from small schools, the students from small school kick the students from large schools arses every semester. This is of course my experience with the students I actually teach, I personally know of no study that compares the performance of students from large and small schools across the country (not that they aren't out there, I just have never seen one). The idea that students graduating from smaller schools are unprepared and unable to compete in the "big" world is absurd at best.

I would agree that, if reasonably close to one another, consolidation could reduce administrative costs and allow more money to be spent on instruction and even extracurricular activities. That being said, only Nevada, Arizona, Oklahoma, and Mississippi, spend less per student on education than Texas. It's not like we are throwing a lot of money at education to start with.

Keep in mind you are at a Community College and probably have the lower end of the big school kids and the upper end of the small school kids simply because the rural kids are too far from major Universities therefore go to a Community College first

National Merit  Scholars, etc... go directly to a 4 year University

Fact is Community College is more like grade 13 NOT repeat NOT the same as UT, TT, A&M, Lamar, etc...

  5. Because big school districts like BISD and PAISD never waste money.....give me a break.... I guarantee that most small districts (as a whole) are more "thrifty" and responsible with their budgets and monies than the big districts...Your other argument about kids playing multi sports effects you personally how??

I am for small town USA programs.  Yes, they do not have the facilities, opportunities, etc... that larger schools have BUT if they keep it in context they can really participate and enjoy.  Understanding the post High School opportunities will be limited academically and athletically.

BUT most small districts waste money on brother in law stipends etc... one district in Hardin/Tyler Co. pays their HS principal $90,000 or so a year to supervise about 250 kids.  REDICULOUS, and  from your posting name you must know of this.  Nederland and PNG Principals make not much more for supervising about 1,600 kids.

  6. Contrary to what some on this forum say, it IS about coaching.  It appears that Bridge City has the advantage..

yes, BC as the coaching advantage.

    1.  Lumberington has brother-in-law coach who won what 2/3 games last year?

    2.  Dubois has his kids believing - the key to HS football success- and the track record to prove it.

one of my HS coaching friends tells me Lumerington does have a big OL and will help them, but Dubois has the shock factor and momentum on his side.  BC wins all the way.

  7. What's the bet?

last great defense that PNG had was Matt Burnetts 1999 group then his 89/90 group, I believe they beat WOS good.  I remember they DOMINATED us during those Burnett defense days.  Seems like we only scored 14 to 15 points in 3 or 4 years.

  8. I am new to this board thing. I have watched high school football, baseball since 1967 I never realized what great athletes and championship teams the Crosby folks have.

From what the cougar14.2 post they have the GREATEST football players, cheerleaders, 7/7 team and THE most knowledgeable fans in the world.  I think some actually played pee wee football. A couple even played tackle football.  I heard 1 played on the varsity???

true evaluators of HS talent and coaching.

when was their last football state championship won?

  9. Do not think that BC is void of talent... They have a big physical offensive line that will fit nicely with their new offense. They have big fast physical running backs and a very strong Jr class. A new attitude, "buy in", an offense that fits their personnel and a QB that knows the offense and is fresh off of a very successful season and you can bet it's going to be a different BC. I will know more after Thursday, but it would not surprise me to not only see them go .500, but be in the area of 6-4 or 7-3. I believe they win the 5 toss up games and knock off 1 or 2 teams they were not "supposed" to beat in the preseason.

they will have a hard time overcoming baseball athletes not playing.  Schugart last year as an example. I like BC and have followed their baseball for years.  Tuff to turn a program around.  Looks like they are trying with new football, bascketball, softball and a ton of other new coaches.  Time will tell.  Still not sure what happened with softball???????

  10. good insight into the quality of PNG DBs.  You seem to know PNGS well, what is their record excluding Fairclothe 1st year with Burnetts kids, Doty, etc...

You mean WOS who beat PNG in 2012 (worst year in a long time), PNG won in 2013/Lost on 2014 due to some serious home cooking, Ozen who has only beat PNG in 2012 (again extremely down year), and WB who tied PNG in scrimmage last year? All the while PNG hasn't had a D1 athlete since 2007 or 2008. 2014 season had one player go play D3 (pay to play) and yet still finished towards the top even though facing teams with multiple D1 athetes. I think those kids are doing pretty dang good. Just my opinion though

yeah send a receiver across the middle and I promise Mr lejuene will introduce his self

    o

yeah send a receiver across the middle and I promise Mr lejuene will introduce his self

    that

  11. Hence the "Missed opportunities" comment...

    that will be PNGs test.

    1. The secondary, over all, as always, is slow and small compared to the athletes WOS, Ozen, WB, etc... has.  We are too but I think the priority Spell, Neauman put on defense is the difference.

They have a good linebacker (Rembert?) and another kid in the db that I understand is a go getter.

  12. you beat me to it. Lol

beat me too!  Based on last years performance, Babin knows how to lose and switch jobs.

you are correct on the Qb.  I think Lumberington is like PNG only they think their guys are super talented, the Morse kid is good, real good just not REAL D1 talent or he would have had some offers.  Krautz could be another Seay for us.

love Larry, Delbert and the 100 years experience our staff has.  I think it will show against PNG.  PNG could pull it out if our secondary doesn't step it up.

if we win you HAVE to think the PNG peeps will be restless.  Really, the Fairclothe group has not done much -- aside from the 1st team he was handed over by Burnett. What is his record putting aside the 1st year?

  13. It was. My wife worked the one on Ned Ave.

from about 1960 till around 1970 we ate either there, Gulfway Drive fish burger or the fishnet on Bluebonnet on Fridays Chatholic peeps. Then when we started dating ate there often 72-77.  Had 35 cent burgers, $5 gas, up and down the drag -73 Malibu SS - and movie at the Village $10/15 max.  The Luke's owned the one on Nederland Ave turned into Hardee's.

    Remember Drakes on Nederland Ave?
