  1. In Texas, high schools play under NCAA rules. The horse collar tackle was outlawed last year.
  2. Ump, you left out our local and state dues we pay every year. I drive over 800 miles each season just attending our weekly meetings.
  3. you should hear what we refs say about the local yokels in the stands....the players get a kick out of it!
  4. there were 4 on Buna and 6 on Deweyville, I was one of the refs. it was a hard fought game by both teams. Closer than the score indicates. The ball bounced Bunas way. how many turnovers did Dville have? It's a shame people like you can taint a good game played by great kids.
  5. I've been out of school a looooooong time but do they still play shirts vs skins in gym class?
  6. Thank you for your support. The brain fart can be blamed on me. I was walking back to step off the holding penalty and replay the down when the dead ball fould occurred. That's what threw me off. I knew they would take the penalty and wipe out the gain so i forgot about the yardage gained. We/I gave the Ned. captain wrong options because I told him if he declined the live ball and took the dead ball the down would stand and they'd be penalized 1/2 the distance from the previous spot, which is what he accepted. That was wrong, I lost track on the yardage gained. If we had gave him the correct options he would have accepted both fouls. That would have put the ball on the 11 for the live ball then half the distance for the dead ball and it should have been 2 down with the line to gain still the 31. Instead we gave them 3rd on the 12 with the line to gain still the 31. I wish it didn't happen but it did. It was not a late hit call it was spearing, he lead with the crown. That is called to protect the tackler not the ball carrier. Tackles like that can caused spinal damage. The fair catch/no fair catch was deemd not a fair catch signal, but shading his eyes. the waved off flag was because the kid was blocked into him. for the record none of our crew lives, lived, schooled or know any kids that play in mid county although one nice lady informed me different. I still have a little bit left on my left cheek if someone would like to chew on it.......fire away
  7. not trying to be critical, but were you there?? because central din not give that game away in no way whatsoever the missed 25 yard field goal that hit the scoreboard was imo the deciding factor in the game not tryin to put the kicker down, buy he shanked it terribly i also was completely disgusted by the option call on 3rd and goal from the 11 (which set up the missed field goal) you DO NOT try to run option on central, too much team speed on the defensive side over there and to add to that, it wasn't even a power option, it was speed option..... i just don't see why refs can't officiate games smoothly and fairly for both teams in every game, its such a simple philosophy... you see a penalty, you call it, if you don't see a penalty, don't make something up... for instance on the first onside... we were called for an offsides penalty... none of our guys were even near being offsides... and the ref threw the flag AFTER we recovered it... i am in no way blaming this on the officials.. i just think it could have been called more fairly You sound like you would make an outstanding official. Why don't you join our chapter? thanks for the compliment :-) and im only 18, and would not know how to go about it, if anyone could send some info that would be helpful, i have reffed and coached little league games before We start meeting in Beaumont, the 2nd Monday in July and meet every Monday after until the season is over. We have plenty of guys that started at 18. Love to have you join. I'll see to it we post something here next June about our meetings.
  8. We (officials) will be wearing red arm bands. The zebras?? LOL yes, the Zebras

  10. haha no joke this really happend? Did you know the signal for "disconcerting signals" is the same as delay of game? If a defensive player is saying "hut, hut" or something sounding like that, they are flagged for disconcerting signals and the delay signal is used. Not saying that's what happened but it may have. Also let it be known that the chapter in question is not ours (Bmt).
  11. Arguing balls and strikes is an automatic ejection. The umpire has no choice. I tell coaches before the game, that if I call a runner out at home and everybody but me sees the ball on the ground, if he will ask for time and come to me calmly and ask me to get help, I will. He if comes running at me screaming like a mad man, it's going to be a short game for him. Same with a bang/bang play at 1st. If it's just a close call, don't come out but if you think the fielder was off the bag, ask me, I'll get a second opinion if I'm in B or C postion. I have had high school coaches come up to me acting like they had line up changes, but are actually just getting their point across. As long as he is calm and respectful and not making a scene he can say (almost) anything. It's not your objection that gets you tossed, it's your presentation....................
  12. What did they do put a gauge on it? Yes, we carry an air guage and a pump..If they aren't between 12.5 and 13.5, we add or let out air...we also check the chains and field markings before each game too, we get to the stadiums a couple of hours before game time..we meet with both head coaches before games also...after the game we meet the head coaches again and give them each a game report, showing how many penalties were on each team
  13. actually it is to be from 12.5 to 13.5 psi..yes we check them before every game (varsity) and then mark them..each crew has it own mark..when they throw in a new ball we check for our mark, if it's not there is goes back out...by the end of the year a ball looks like it has graffitti all over it!
  14. The sad part is that now you know the umps were right but I bet you don't pass that along to all the people that were bad mouthing them last week.
  15. I have a statement then question. 1st I was at all the WS games against Alto and Mcleod and I thought the 2 Bmt guys (same for each series) did a wonderful job. In the Mcleod series, runner on 1st, in the pitcher's delivery the 3rd base ump called a balk. The pitcher continued w/delivery which runner was going on and batter fouled off. The 3rd base ump walked in to the infield with his hands up and notified the home plate ump he had a balk (pitcher didn't stop) and awarded the runner 2nd base. There was a guy in the stands that was yelling it was a foul ball and the defensive coach should appeal it. He yelled this for about 2 innings. My question is - Mr Ump why is it that the people that know the least, yell the most?
  16. I was an official in the game and we enjoyed the game too. Two great coaching staffs and two great groups of kids made it very enjoyable. Thank you W.H. and W.S. We expect great things from you both in the future!
  17. To be fair to the ticket taker, she was probably told not to let y'all through. Many schools don't want the fans from each side mingling for their own safety. There should have been signs though, showing where to park. Good luck Indians!
  18. because (in our judgement) the second time it was intentional to drain the clock so we treated it like an intentional delay of game and didn't allow them to run of more time
  19. I was one of the officials in the game. Let me say it was the hardest fought, cleanest played, game I have been in all year. Great job from both teams. Clock operators simply do what the crew on the field signals them to do, so to the guy ealier accusing them of cheating, they weren't, you should apologize. You are right. We stopped it, marked off 5 yds and started it. Second time we stopped it marked off 5 yds and let it start on the snap.
  20. Actually this is exactly the routine for my crew. Also I have worked the ned/png game 1 week and then cathedral christian's the next so as you see you're opinion on big game crews not working smaller games is incorrect. We need new officials though, you are invited to join.
  21. You have saw? Not an english major, I take. Our new mechanics is to have 1 in the offensive backfield (ref) and 1 on each sideline. That is a lot of running for us old and fat officials. All we can do is our best. Hopefully you're good on a shovel, sounds like you'll need to be.
  22. Why don't you join our chapter? We could use a man with great competence such as you. Actually we stand at mid field before the game and second half to prevent such things. My crew does anyway and I presumed all do.
  23. actually if you get 2 USC's (unsportsman like conduct) you get tossed. Also we have to file an incident report. Every school district has there own policy toward ejections.
  24. here's the options on a kick OB.1) back up 5 yds and rekick, 2) take it where it went out ( if ahead of the 30) or 3) take it 30 yds from the kicking spot (normally the 40 which gives then the ball @ the 30) If PNG got it at the 35, that must be where it went out..had it gone out on the 25 they would get it at the 30 or back up and rekick and yes I am an official
