The kid from Evadale wasn't bad last night either. He threw out 3 of 4 attempting to steal second. He could of got the 4th but they missed the tag. Two of them weren't even close. Good ball game from both teams.
Lets just say in your case the Umps got it wrong but I am sure that there were many plays before this that could have changed the outcome of the game. Unless there were no errors physical or mental by the players or a coach, the call the Umps made did not cost anyone the game. People forget the error that little johnny made back in the 2nd inning that let two runs score.
so true big boy, so true

 4. I am a member of TASO and have been for about 10 years. I pay dues to TASO and the local football and baseball chapters. TASO and my local chapters have taught me rules, mechanics, how to deal with difficult situations, brought me along from working 7th, 8th grade ball to working varsity playoffs. They showed me where and what equipment to purchase and scheduled me games that fit in to my work/personal schedule. If I (never have yet) ever had at conflict with a school, or coach, player, fan, or the UIL there in no doubt in my mind that TASO would support me 100%. What would I get from the UIL for the additional 50 dollars? My guess is nothing. I don't know of a single one of my TASO brothers that going to register with the UIL so my suggestion would be for you dads to start reading the rule book and working on your base and plate mechanics. Hopefully this will be resolved before season.
Coaches get credit for setting good examples but when you get players to step up into a leadership role such as this, you've got a well rounded program in the making.  Players respond to the leadership and examples set by other players. And, I am glad there is an article that acknowledges how FB Lowclasstower sucks at playing with class.  I hope they get a copy of this article.  Their intimidation stategy did not work and their plans for going to state were inhibited by WB.  I'll take a team with heart and character over thugs any day.  Time to go get my tickets, because I am committed to being there on Saturday.  Get ready for roll call Bruin fans.
They have a copy. I sent it to the HC. Funny because I have been to many Hightower games and have never once seen them commit any of the alleged infractions or be called for them. Either they are very sneaky or the young man from Westbrook made it up to inspire his team. I don't know the kid from Westbrook but I have met many of the kids from Hightower and I personally do not believe him. Anyway, Good Luck Westbrook!

As long as the extras leave a few seconds before the huddle is broke there is no foul.
Incorrect.  You may have more than 11 on the field if you aren't in a huddle, but of course, those players must exit before the snap of the ball.  For instance, you may have 22 guys on the field at one time when switching from offense to punt team.  BUT, those same 22 players CANNOT be in the huddle together.  If you have more than 11 guys in a huddle communicating with each other or communicating with the ref for that matter, then it is too many men in the huddle.  If an offensive substitution comes in, then the player being replaced must leave the huddle within 2-3 seconds of being replaced.
trust me, I've been officiating for 10 years,,you can have 12 in the huddle, you can't break with 12
Man, if you have been in officiating for 10 years, you might need to go back to get a refresher course on the rules.  Look at the rule that was posted right before you posted.  The player being replaced must leave the field within 3 seconds of being replaced.  He cannot just stay in the huddle and leave 3 seconds before the huddle is broken.  Please don't officiate one of my teams games.
you haven't a clue son

Time called  before the snap is a pretty heads up move by the coach.

As an experienced official in faseball and football I can tell you that I refuse to be strong armed by the UIL. I can also tell you ther are MANY of my brothers that feel the same way. But at least the guys that have been trying to get on a varsity field for years but weren't qualified will now get their chance. Looks like I get to start bow hunting next year!
I think that TEE hit it right that there will be some guys that do not belong on a varsity field that will and it is not going to be a pretty site. I think one of the ways maybe this gets worked out some is if the coaches really complain to the UIL. The coaches from both schools agree on officials and if they agree it shouldn't matter what association they are with. Tee you know i will call with you anytime.
Even after my uh-oh in Humble during playoffs? Thanks you're the man! We talked about it at our football meeting last night. looks like the majority feel the same way I do. Also the San Antone, Dallas/Fort Worth, Lufkin and Houston chapters. Looks like football will be going from 5 experienced officials on the field to maybe 2 men??? Or maybe the UIL has a crack staff of officials trained and waiting in the wings..At least we have one more baseball season.

 13. I was very suprised with the scoreboard myself. It only had the time and score. It doesn't show down and distance, ball on yardline, and timeouts. We had a hard time trying to get the distances for first downs to give on our broadcast. Also, we thought Silsbee had some timeouts left at the end of the game but didn't know for sure because it wasn't available on the scoreboard. Made it tough for us in the booth. Also, the clock operator wasn't the greatest. Had to reset the clock a few times last night. I'm curious, maybe I should ask my brother. Before my dad retired from officiating, part of the team was a Timekeeper I think. I know he worked a few games doing that, I guess they don't do that anymore? Any refs on the forum that can answer this and I'm not referring to the backjudge who keeps the official time but too someone who actually sits in the booth and takes care of it. I believe the clock is still run by an official. I know that is the way it is run at Silsbee, just the clock. The other part of the scorboard is run by a volunteer. \ Some schools request clock operators/chain and down box guys and some don't Our problem is we are very short handed because not many people are willing to take the abuse we receive so unfortunately we cannot fill all request from schools. Two thirds of our new guys this year won't be back next year, that is proven over history. We have 16 varsity crews that work local high school games but we just don't have the numbers to fill all the clock, chain and down box assignments. Anybody want to join up?
 14. the refs have nothing to do with who runs the clock. that is the the responsibilty of the home teams
 15. Wow, didn't realize what a can of worms this would open. I'm just saying in my opinion as a guy who has been a hi school, semi pro, pee wee ref for the last 10 years it seems that if 10 minutes is too long for 14-15 yr old kids that have been through 2 a days and on a year round work out program and play late in the evening it's probably too long for the little fellas that play at hi noon. I know when we get mid way throught the 4th quarter in most instances, I don't see the competive fire the their eyes anymore. The majority of them are ready to call it a day. Oh well, this point will be moot in about 8 weeks when it cools off to 85!!!!!! If I was the Grand Pooba of the league, we'd play 7 minutes quarters with every kid having to play 1 quarter but that's just me...Good luck to you all this year......
 16. And may I add that 10 minute quarters are WAY to long....they don't play that long in UIL sub varsity games for a reason. Take note of all the injuries you start getting in the 4th quarter. It's because the game should already be over.
 17. They ask us every year (TASO officials) if we would like to suggest changes. Every year I suggest they ban all blocking below the waist. It's getting there slowly but surely. Along the same note, I got my new rule book last week. They now are good for 2 years. This year's rules are good for 2009 and 2010. The rules committee will not meet again until after the 2010 season.
 18. We had a young lady join our chapter last year. She (like all newbies) worked jr hi games and the chains/down boxes on Friday nights. She worked the chains for my crew once or twice and did fine. I never really heard anything good or bad about her game calling. Don't know if she'll be back. We don't get many newbies back for their second year. You have to do it for love of the game because the money sure ain't worth the bull you have to endure!
 19. Interested in becoming an official? The South East Texas football chapter of TASO begins weekly meetings July 20, 7:00 pm at the IBEW hall in Beaumont. Come join us!
 20. Just and FYI, Hemphill doesn't like to use Bmt chapter..those umps were from Tyler, so I herad.
 21. just be ready for the inside fastball, the space belongs to her!
 22. Well, you are right about one thing as an ump, I concentrate on the game on the field. The dugout and stands are really of no concern to me. It takes all my concentration to be where I need to be and stay on top of everthing ON THE FIELD. Now let me say this. I was behind the plate for this game and both teams played hard and acted like sportmen should as far as I saw. Both teams players were very cordial and had smiles on their faces evertime I talked to them. I had good conversations with both catchers (Joran fromd WOS and Kyle from HF) all night long and never heard anything negative. After the game several HF players walked up, shook my hand and said good game. You expect that from the winning team (which they did) but when the team that lost does, that shows class to me. So let's not throw these kids under the bus for a couple of isolated incidents.
 23. awww thats such a TERRIBLE thing that the hf players say something when they think its a ball instead of a strike.if you played the game i know for a fact that everyone does it...sorry that we get umps that dont have a clue and just eject people for stupid reasons. and the players that got ejected didnt do anything for you to sit there an say that the progam doesnt have any class..you wouldnt know cause you werent in the dugout..if our players were to of done something so terrible to the ump, then you would have heard the coach say something to the player....and if # 6 did something so wrong to the ump at bc then why is it that both coachs went over there to talk to him and to say how stupid he is for making that call...im pretty sure that if that player would have done something so bad like everyone claims he did i positive the coaches wouldnt go over there to try and argue the call..now if anyone else wants to say that that hf doesnt have any class this year then there is somehting wrong...i promise this team has made a complete turn around from the way we treated the game last year and the way we do now..and i promise that that program has alot more class then anyone else thinks 2 things - 1 arguing balls and stikes is an AUTOMATIC ejection 2 - the ball field is an extention of the classroom, language not tolerated in the classroom isn't tolerated on the field either
 24. wait what? infield hit by LC-M but Cloeren who play for LC-M didn't throw it to first? come on fellas lets get on the same page my head is hurting lol I think TD got it backwards in his earlier post. It was no no for Brown for 6 innings, then Barry for 7th no hits. then BC with 2 hits in 8th. Yes they gave BC an infield hit in the 5th I think it was. I did have it backwards but I have now fixed it. Sorry for the confusion. I would have scored it differently but that's not what was put on the board. I agree as far as I was concerned there were no hits on either side through 7 innings. thanks td that was really confusing me This was the best game. If you missed it you really missed something. If you like good pitching that is. All three kids were great. This kind of game makes an old man think he still has one good inning left. Knowing good and well I can't bust a grape, it sure makes you want to get out there and try. wow what a game I was fortunate enough to have the best seat in the house, I was calling balls ans strikes this game really recharged my batteries and you BC/LCM fans made it better, two great fan bases thanks for a great time
