HF would fall into the category of need to just run slot t and yet they are opening things up from what I heard and are having a banner year. I think as long as the coach can get buy in from the players then it doesn’t matter but athletes get a ton more excited when you throw the ball around.

Is it allowed regardless of the reason?

A few years back one of the Hardin schools, maybe West Hardin, opted out of their UIL District and any chance of making the playoffs but still played football. They made their own schedule. I forget what it is called when a team does this but that should be the move for Cleveland. At 6 A they will never make the playoffs, so why not lower your competition and give yourself a chance to not get 70 scored on you everytime you play.

Young Coaches do it for numerous reasons. 1. Going from making 65K to 100K 2. Most desirable jobs want prior experience and often won't even consider you without it. Thats why the same usual names keep getting hired even after failing elsewhere. 3. They are young, energetic, and confident in their ability to right the ship (most likely overconfident) 4. Ambitious and Impatient

HC retired not fired. Pretty sure that job was his as long as he was willing to continue to work there. No coach is going to come in and win there at 6A. Best Cleveland can do is hire a coach that will come in and run a program that focuses on building up the players as good young men. Problem is they will only attract ambitious young coaches trying to climb the professional ladder (not gonna work at Cleveland) or older coach that is looking to boost their retirement ( might do a decent job if they care).

I don't remember Livingston ever really being a powerhouse but to possibly go 0-10 is alarming. I don't follow them tbh. Is it just a dry spell of talen that will swing back around or is this a dead/dying program? (ex: Cleveland)
-
Agreed. There's no way that can go unpunished. Also probably better monitoring of the handshake line as well will need to take place.
-
If Im not mistaken the HC for Cleveland was suspended from the game due to a post game incident with a parent from the previous week.
-
Absolutely BS! These kids will do absolutely anything they see on Tik Tok! My wife showed me a video of Little league kids doing this same thing a week or so ago. I honestly don't think this is a Willis or Cleveland issue, its a generation and social media thing. There you go got me sounding like my dad! Im sure kids will be punished as they should. Some Coaches will get their asses chewed as well but everyone calling for someone to be fired is a bit much. I would hate for the 10 second actions of 15-17 year olds affect my ability to provide for my family.

Guess Belt moved back to Tarkington. Last season he was at Anahuac. Anyways Tarkington has finally advertised a job. It was not for AD or HC. Instead it was for a Varsity assistant. POC was Joshua Bruce. So I guess you could assume he’s the guy.
-
That would be a very good hire for Tarkington. Would he want it with it possibly being split?
-
I do believe Mark would be the favorite. If he’s interested is a different story. Did he ever go after the job in the previous years it was open? Gonna be a late start for whoever they bring in.

There’s more than a few Cleveland/Splendora grads floating around the state coaching. Wonder if the possibility of a HC job might make some want to come back to the area? Here is a list of a few that come to mind: Brian Ricci- Cleveland Grad (former HC and current Middle School Coordinator in Humble ISD) Chase Reneau- Splendora Grad (Tomball assistant) Toby Belt- Cleveland Grad (former Tarkington assistant current anahuac assistant) Cody Inkster- Splendora grad (I think is a recent Tarkington assistant or current assistant) Coleman Butter- Cleveland grad (Chester ISD athletic director)
-
He announced this is his last year.
-
Not sure who the new superintendent is but they had a meeting today to name the lone finalists. Sure the movement on the AD/HC (if they don’t split them) will start soon. Wonder what schedule he inherits. Whoever picked the non district schedule probably wasn’t super motivated to put some winnable games on there.
-
In reality Tarkington is either stepping stone job or a trying to ride out a few more well paid years. The only way they have a chance at a consistently competitive team is to get someone that is either from the area and wants to stay or someone that is looking for a hometown to raise their kids in. It’s hard to imagine an up and coming coach would stay there long term. It’s also hard to imagine a coach that is a quality veteran coach that would stay especially when they aren’t getting AD pay. If they kept it one role and looked for the kind of coach that is rooted to the area or one that is willing to call it home they could sniff 500 consistently and a shot at the playoffs occasionally. For Tarkington that would be a successful hire.
-
Don't mind the splitting either but that usually drops the pay for just HC only. It would take someone that is fully committed and involved to make Tarkington consistently competative. That is a hard ask when they can be an assistant coach 5 miles down the road for the same pay or more.
-
Splendora is advertising the AD position. HC is still there presumebly.
-
I know Rowe was a longtime coach in this area and he was in an AD only role. I wonder if he got himself another Coach/AD Job.
-
Not sure what is going on at Splendora but their AD job is posted.
-
Yeah but I'd imagine that a Supt. would want to pick someone they personally have worked with before. A coach that takes this job before the Supt. is hired would probably be on a shorter leash. Not sure it matters because they can't keep a coach longterm. Whoever is hired will be gone in 2-4 seasons. I know that tends to be the trend throughout the state but just hard to imagine a coach can establish a program without longevity.
-
They are looking to hire a Supt. first then let him bring his guy in.

Port Neches Groves Indians at Tomball Cougars
Kegger replied to lcm93's topic in High School Football
Tomball's Oline is big and plays nasty. The QB is extremely athletic. They will go 4 wide just to run everyone off and then the qb will run. Defense isn't special. Special teams will onside at least 2 times and they will run a fake punt a couple of times. If PNG isn't careful on special teams, Tomball will steal 2-4 extra possessions. They have won multiple games over the past 2 seasons because of this. I personally don't have a dog in this fight. But Id be willing to bet Tomball will win this game by more than the talent disparity between the 2 teams. -
LAINE SAMBROOKS NAMED NEW HFC AT SPLENDORA

See that the AD/HC role is now split. That will hurt them with some candidates. There were quite a few big school coaches going down this year to acquire full control of the athletic programs. -
