  3. You don’t want to play at PVAMU trust me. I saw the Westfield - San Marcos game there and it was a miserable experience (and not just the game). Parking is atrocious, the little bit that they have is all on the visitors side of the stadium and there is only one road in and out. There is no lot at all on the home side. This also means that fans from both teams all enter through the same gate and the home team fans have to cross over once inside, so prepare to wait in line to get in. They only had one concession stand open on each side and the lines were all the way out to the seating area . Only one set of restrooms were open on each side as well. If this game ends up being played there I highly recommend getting there way early and even then there is no guarantee that you will not have to wait for just about everything.

  4. I certainly won't argue against any of the teams on this list, all are very deserving. I do think one team that has been overlooked over the years is Houston Stratford team of 1978. They outscored their opponents 532-149 (15 game season), held 9 of their 15 opponents to a touchdown or less (with most of their first team on the sidelines in the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand). In an era when only one team per district made the playoffs, 7 of their 15 wins were against district champions. Defeated 1975 state champion and 1977 state finalist Port Neches Groves in the regular season opener on the road, defeated 1976 state champ SA Churchill in the semi-finals, defeated 1977 state champ Plano in the finals, and defeated 1979 state finalist Houston Memorial in district play. Running back Craig James rushed for 2411 yards (a then Class 5A record), had two other backs rush for over 800 yards and quarterback Mark Gabrisch passed for over 1000 yards. Offense racked up over 7000 yards total that year. James appeared in a super bowl with the Patriots, and lineman Chuck Thomas appeared in two super bowls with the 49'ers. Overall this was a very solid "team" that I feel deserves to be considered for one of the greatest of all time.

In the end, it's all about money one way or another...

Txprepfan, since you have never been to "The Butch", feel free to drive on over on September 1st and watch West Brook and Central.

I'm going to see Central against Katy Tompkins the following Saturday in Katy. I'll make my way to the Butch one of these days.

Ha Ha!  Although I must admit that I share REBgp's uneasiness about it.  I guess that kinda stems from wondering why the Classic was moved.  No offense intended to Memorial Stadium as I have been there several times and it is a fine stadium to host events like these, but it seems that Butch would make more sense being right off of the interstate.

On the other matter, Coach Nelson has also confirmed to me that the Central/Baytown Lee game will be on Saturday, November 11th at 2 pm at the Butch.

I have to admit I am disappointed that the classic was moved to Port Arthur. Also, no offense to Memorial Stadium i have seen games there as well but I have never been to "the Butch" and was planning on making the trip over there that Saturday. I am curious as to why it was moved. Thanks Todd for your efforts in getting all the correct info.

The Week 11 game at the Butch will be a 2:00 kickoff per the BISD Athletic Office.

Also, the office confirmed that the 3 games of the Lone Star Classic on Sept. 2nd: Deer Park vs. Bellaire Episcopal, Ozen vs. Corpus Christi St. John Paul II and Port Arthur Memorial vs. Dallas Bishop Dunne, will be played in Port Arthur.

Finally !!! Thanks for getting that all straightened out.

I agree, especially given that all other "Saturday spllover" games are a 2:00 kick.  I wish I could tell you one way or the other but Coach Nelson only confirmed that they are playing on Saturday.  Fort what it is worth, the master Thomas Center schedule on the bisd website also shows a 7 pm start for this game.

I'm gonna go with 7:00 pm unless I hear otherwise. I haven't seen a schedule for Lee on the GCCISD website. I'll let you know if I hear of a change.  Thanks.

According to Coach Taylor, the game is at 3 at the Butch.

On an unrelated matter (yet BISD), the schedules that both Central and West Brook put out show both of them having a home game on Thursday, November 9th at 7.  Both Coach Peevey (WB) and Coach Nelson (Central) have confirm that the Baytown Lee/Central game will be on Saturday.

Central's schedule on the BISD site has been corrected to show their game vs Baytown Lee on Saturday,

However they show it at 7:00 pm.. That seems suspect to me you would think it being the last week of the season

that it would be a day game.

Thanks for the update on the Ozen-John Paul game.

  10. I have run across two different schedules for Ozen and have a question regarding the Week 1 game vs. Corpus Christi John Paul.

One schedule shows the game at the Thomas Center, and the one currently listed on the BISD website shows the game at Port Arthur.

Both show Saturday at 3:00 pm.

I was under the impression that this game was part of a triple-header (Lone Star Classic) at the Thomas Center.

    Can anyone please confirm. Thanks.

The WO-S/KIPP Northeast game is back on for Sept. 22nd.  Not sure if it is in West Orange or Houston.

That news is from an unofficial, yet very reliable source close to the Mustang program.

It seems that the game may never have been off to begin with.  The confusion stemmed from West Orange-Stark officials seeing that KIPP Northeast had put word out that there was an opening for a game on Sept. 22nd, which prompted a call from WO-S to KIPP about what was going on.  Until that call was made, though, WO-S was showing Sept. 22 as an open date due to the information it had seen.  Coach Thompson and the KIPP coach were finally able to talk about it and agreed (again) to the game on Sept. 22.

Thanks for the info. Hoping they are playing here in Houston since it was at WOS last year. I know it probably won't be a very close

game but would like to see the Mustangs here in H-Town. If you hear anything else please post here.  Thanks again.
