  1. Lower and middle class families spend more on consumption as a percentage of overall income than than a wealthy family.

Example, family X makes $25,000, spends $20,000 on consumer goods (excluding tax) and with an 8% consumption tax would pay $1,600 in taxes. The tax would be 6.4% of their overall income.

Now, family Y makes $1,000,000 a year and spends $200,000 on consumer goods (excluding tax) and with an 8% would pay $16,000 in taxes. The tax would be 1.6% of their overall income.

Family X pays more as a percentage but family y pays more in absolute terms.

Just curious. Why is this unfair? Taxes paid would be relative to your spending abilities.

  2. Lol this guy..

For the record -- Low Information Voters is not a cut down.  Was seeing if anyone on the left could connect the dots.  I don't think they ever have concerning this.  LOL!  Hence, I've said before that what I post is for educational purposes to lift the Low Information Voter.  My opinion is that the majority of those that voted for obama didn't have the information necessary to make an "informed" decision.  If a discussion ensues, then great.  If not, then great.  But, let's be honest:  Which side starts the name calling??  Seems like that is who needs to be dealt with.  Yes -- this is a political forum.  The other side has given plenty to expose.  When the other side couldn't handle the truth when exposed they went to name calling.  I can't speak for the others on the right, but I never once got into the name calling.  Didn't need to.  But I knew the other side would start it. They always do.  My name was always brought up but I never got into these discussions.  That was intentional.  You know the old saying, give um enough rope.  And they usually passed with flying colors.  I say don't delete the forum but police the individuals that need to be policed!!  Again -- just my opinion...

  3. What should we do about the current corporate income tax situation?

    finance.yahoo.com/news/the-insane-u-s--corporate-tax-system-145353359.html

We have the highest tax rates in the world, yet it seems so many large corporates hire armies of lawyers and accountants to (legally) shift cash around and drastically reduce their effective tax rate.

Is the current tax system screwing over the small to mid sized enterprises that don't have the resources to dodge taxes?
  4. Controversial topic time, no sissies allowed.

    My personal opinion.

The average male and female are probably about the same when it comes to their intellectual ability. The difference lies within the distributions of their IQ range. Men have significantly more geniuses and significantly more dumbasses compared to women, while women have all bunched up towards the center and don't have much variation.

Anecdotal evidence - the smartest people I've ever met have been predominately male. Yes, smart women exist but they're outnumbered by smart men. I don't think it's a coincidence the majority of CEOs, past presidents, revolutionary inventors etc have been male.

I'm not saying men are better than women, or even that men are equal to women. I'm just saying we're different.
  5. That's assuming you have only an intruder or two.

I'd say it's better to have both. Have the AR ready in case the urban youth start rioting outside your house.

I agree with most of this and own a couple tactical rifles including an AR-15, however it is my opinion that for home protection a person is much better served purchasing a tactical shotgun/riot gun.  A short shotgun loaded with 5-7 rounds of buckshot.  You don't have to be nearly as accurate and in most home invasions wihtin a few shots it's over.

  6. Stop acting like you're above the ridiculousness when you're bandwagoning on that low information voter garbage in almost every topic.

If you want to present yourself as more legitimate than you feel some are interpreting you, stop telling them that they are dumb. Stop calling them commoners. Stop the phony and unjustified condescension. Stop telling them that they all ought to look at things from your perspective because it is th only reasonable position. Just offer your perspective and see what happens.

  7. That anti affirmative action topic actually was probably the only discussion in the past month that got serious replies and not just normal left v. Right talking points.

If people can't see that the economy sucks then screw it. Their minds are already made up and you will not be able to change that. Similar how republicans have their set in stone views on certain topics.

Is the sky blue and hating America posts were obviously troll posts created to show how ridiculous this board has become. Yes, I wasn't helping. But neither are you and smitty.

So, if the economy sucks, it's wrong for me to attempt to reinforce that fact and get people to wake up to the real circumstances surrounding the economy?  You ought to consider yourself when criticizing topics offered by others.   I found nothing interesting about "is the Sky Blue" and was truly troubled with " Why do Smitty and Steve Nash Hate America".  Sorry, but neither of those leads to enlightenment in the subsequent discussions.  As for your anti affirmative action post, most did not take it at face value just as they have not done so with the plethora of posts provided by you and TXHoops over the last 18 hours.

  8. Within 3 replies that thread will turn into a "obamas foreign policy sucks" echo chamber

How about a have a reasonable discussion of some current event?   The situation in Iraq.  How does ISIS decide who they are going to kill?   Doesn't seem to be just christians.   Is it everybody wo won't join them?

Are we doing enough to help those trapped on the mountain?

This is just a test to see if it can be done.

  9. How convenient of you to forget my very controversial anti affirmative action and anti feminism posts. I'd consider myself socially liberal, relative to the extreme far right, but I don't agree with every single stance the left adopts. That's just idiotic.

I don't need to criticize the left on this board. You and smitty have that covered. I rarely post in the "economy sucks" topics because obviously the economy sucks. Do you need me to make the 10th thread on that topic every day?

I believe it was you who stated that you were a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.  The liberal social crowd always laments the fact that only they are truly tolerant and promoting diversity.  If you want to go ahead, right here and now, and state you are NOT a social liberal, I will happily accept that statement and we can proceed accordingly.  It is worth noting, however, that on this board your full time job has been to criticize the left and defend the right.  I am not saying there is anything wrong with that but surely you understand what type of conclusions it makes observers arrive at.  One more thing, most of the name calling that take place on this board originates from those supportive of and sympathetic to the current administration.  You have not been deficient in meeting that criteria.

  10. Steve, you constantly call me a liberal and part of the "tolerant crowd" yet Ive repeatedly stated I'm fiscally conservative and support lower taxes, less regulations and the repeal of obamacare. I've also stated obama has been a disappointment, although I do not give him ALL the blame for the current economic environment.

If you don't like being grouped with the teabaggers, then why do you keep grouping me with liberals?
  11. No, please explain it.

    We're waiting.

If you can't see the difference in Smitty's posts and those from ECO and most recently TXHoops (by design) I won't bother to explain it.
As far as others agreeing with you, no doubt... the moderators seemed to take the path of no moderation and then a knee-jerk reaction to solve the problem.
The forum is getting boring...national policy seems to be a nuisance and a bore to many.
