  1. Absolutely. He knows the human body and it's limitations and history better than me or our coach. Are there exceptions in sports? Sure. But you won't know whether you are wrong about your son being one of those exceptions until it is too late. I'd rather trust an expert on the subject matter and focus on my real job. Regarding your last sentence, are you telling me that you know more about the limitations of your child's body than Dr. Andrews?
  2. He's been bitter ever since he didn't win the Willie Ray Smith award. It's been all down hill from there. Oh, and any school that doesn't employ a coach with the last name Boutte, will be randomly hated on.
  3. I love the idea if done correctly. Bring in Dr Andrews and have him create the rules. Same guy that created the original pitch counts used in Little League and same guy that every multi-million dollar athlete in the world trusts with the health of their body. I tend to trust Dr Andrews opinion with my kid's arm more than I trust mine or that of the coach.
  4. If you are talking about returning starters, then I agree. i just don't know what PAM has returning. Speaking of returners, if Central really is returning 9 starters on that defense I saw this year, they would be favored imo. I might sound crazy for saying this but I honestly don't think losing Whaley will hurt Central all that much.
  5. That is a fair prediction. If I was laying odds in Vegas, that would look mostly correct. But strange things happen when you put teenage boys under the Friday night lights. I think everyone is giving PAM too much credit based on the number of athletes they have. Yall do realize GCM had a higher enrollment the last 2 years than PAM and didn't make the playoffs in 22-5A right? That says a lot about the impact coaching has on winning. How good is the PA coach?
  6. Was her name really Reba or is that just what we called her? It's been 2 years and her voice is still echoing in my ears.
  7. That's OK. We'll catch PNG early before the young QB has a chance to get going. After that we have Livingston, Lee & Vidor. Not a bad setup for the first half of district.
  8. I agree 100% When I watch McCain's film, I'm reminded of a guy named Linc Harden who came out of Galveston Ball in the early 90s. Made stops at a couple of colleges before settling in at OSU. Was then drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in '95. McCain "might" be a better athlete but Harden was 6'3"-6'4" who was able to play safety in high school because Ball was a big school back then. If Harden had played at a school like Silsbee, he would have probably played LB.
  9. Safety. If he works on his speed and puts on another 20 lbs, you're looking at an FBS All American. You can't teach/coach what this kid has.
  10. Without even hearing his 40 time, I'd say FBS. If he can run in the 4.5s or better, he'll go FBS.
  11. I've been on both sides of this as a player and as a parent. And it is entirely about respecting your opponent while the beat down is happening. Lost a FB game in college by 70 pts and never felt disrespected. They were just that much better. Lost another game by about 50 and wanted to kill their coach because he was still throwing 50 yd passes in the 4th qtr. If I saw that man on fire today, I wouldn't piss on him to put it out. Lumberton has been beat by 80+ pts by Central and never felt disrespected. Without mercy rules to "save you", you learn a valuable life lesson. That lesson is To keep fighting like hell even when you are getting your ass handed to you. Don't ever give up! Then later in life when you are faced with death of family members, loss of jobs, terminal illness, etc, you are better equipped to handle the adversities. Nobody is going to enforce a mercy rule when chemo or something else is kicking your ass. Toughen up and become a fighter!
  12. If BISD would zone properly, district 22-5A could be: West Brook Central Ozen PA Memorial Nederland PNG Lumberton Vidor Longest drive would be 45 mins (Put Livingston in 21-5A)
  13. Lumberton 10-4 in 9 innings. Mott amd McManus both had a HR for Raiders. LCM had a HR also but don't know the name.
  14. Ok . Serious prediction now. I predict Lumberton beats Memorial to grab the 4th spot. You heard it here first. PNG, Central and Nederland in the other 3 spots.
  15. Lumberton Nederland PNG PAM Vidor Central Ozen Lee Livingston
  16. Damn you Bigdog! You and I both know that info but I could have had a fun debate with jagwhatever cuz he wouldn't have done the homework. Now you screwed up my fun with the history lesson. Way to go.
  17. I'd like to see Silsbee put back on Lumberton's schedule. I believe we always played them prior to Haynes ending that series.
  18. I don't disagree that the better team on that day won. Central's defense played lights out that game. My reply was directed to you saying Livingston has virtually no shot in making the playoffs in 5A, right along with Ozen, Lumberton, Vidor and Lee... Central is a good football team but not good enough to be talking down on the 5 teams mentioned. And you can talk about how we beat up on small schools in pre-district all you want. The fact remains that when district started Central beat the same teams that Lumberton beat and lost to the same teams that Lumberton lost to. The Lumberton/Central game was decided on a last second hail mary pass to a receiver that had a 10in height advantage over our CB. So just how much better do you think Central is than Lumberton. Because I just don't see it.
  19. So yall squeak out a last second miracle TD to beat Lumberton all while having the best RB in the country in your backfield, and you want to talk trash? You should really let PNG, Nederland and Memorial do the trash-talking. LOL
  20. Coach Mann provides a valuable service and does a great job for those kids. But even he will tell you that the work he is doing is for the kids that are not going D1. He is helping kids get D2/D3/NAIA looks. And concerning the Legacy QB, maybe he should choose somewhere in between Legacy and Silsbee. Oh, I don't know, maybe Lumberton? Sounds like a fair compromise to me.
  21. I agree with most of what you said. But I disagree about whether a coach/teacher/administrator would be "let go" in the middle of their contract. If you've spent much time around the world of education then you know that many of our educators would not last 1 year in the private sector. In the private sector, we fire people for way less than what goes on, or doesn't go on, in Academia.
  22. Is he better than Dontre Thomas? How many looks did Dontre get? I'm a huge fan of DT and I will never understand why he didn't get more looks. Maybe he had a flaw in his throwing motion that only the top scouts can see. I have no idea. But this is what I do know. If you are good enough, the scouts will find you. You would think that going to Lumberton might hurt recruiting chances, but I know that there were coaches from Power 5 conferences that stopped by there this past year. But guess what, none of our players got a single "look" from any of those visitors. Why? Because we didn't have any Power 5 conference football players. This is the same conversation people were having in the late 80s when public school kids were transferring to Kelly HS. Everyone said they wouldn't get the looks from recruiters like they would at West Brook or Central (or French & BCP). There were probably more Kelly kids on the Beaumont and Port Arthur Super Gold teams those years than most public schools. That line of thinking was not true back then and with Social Media/Internet, it is even less true today.
  23. I'm not naive enough to think that winning is not one factor in their evaluation. I would hope that it is not the most important factor. It just always amazes me when a contract does not get renewed, many folks are in disbelief because he/she won however many games. Wouldn't a non-renewed contract for a coach that has an above average winning % be a clue that the decision has to do with something other than wins and losses? Please tell me I'm not the only one who has ever had to fire one of my top performing employees because of something not related to performance measurables
