I know there was a thread or two not too long ago about this:

dBerrySports got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Texas going after Oregon Duck Commit
If Texas would have offered a week or two earlier, they may have had a chance. But Locke never visited Austin and really got to talk with coaches (I assume). Any commitment to the Longhorns would have been a blind leap of faith almost.

Oregon isn't a bad choice. Just too little, too late for the Longhorns

Lamar's offered a decent amount of kids from Southeast Texas, but they can't depend on that alone to field a good team. Local talent is nice, but you need to get talent where you can get it. If the roster was 90% filled with SETX players but won 3 games a season, people wouldn't show up to games. North Dakota State only has 18 players from the entire state of North Dakota on their roster. People still show up to their games and they have more national titles than losses in the last 4 seasons.

And some kids want to get out of Beaumont/SETX like someone referenced earlier. Getting away from home can be good for some kids, it probably has nothing to do with the football program itself.

Navasota vs Ozen at GPISD Stadium would be good.

How do you know where any given player would or would not make a varsity? And unless I read him wrong I don't think #62jjohnson ever compared Kendrick King to Earl Thomas. He said that players from smaller classifications can succeed.

I never discounted what Smith did, not sure why you want to think that. I said he benefits from depth and an offensive line and a Division I caliber wide receiver. King did not. Opposing teams knew King was the entire offense and he still put up numbers. Not sure why folks have to trash a kid in order to put another one up.

According to the West Brook football site, they ran the ball 384 times and passed it 233 times. Not what I would call pass happy.

Who knows in a different classification. I remember Sterling-cole leaving a 4a school to a 6a school and still put up great numbers versus better competition.

Demarcus had a great season, but he also had the benefit of two offensive linemen that are signing with Southland Conference schools. He also had one of the best WRs in the state to help. I am not (CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH) saying that Demarcus didn't deserve consideration, but every kid that made the list had good reason. Kendrick King was about 90% of H-F's offense and he did not have a 6A offensive line. And he had a few interceptions on defense.

I thought having 30% of your roster being local is a very good number. It's all about winning. Winning will fill seats quicker than having a roster full of local players.

Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this but I'm looking forward to seeing Keynel McZeal take the next step in his development. He has BCS school potential with his size and pretty good speed. Once he becomes more consistent I think he'll be a monster and could become one of the better WRs in the state.

Him and a hopefully healthy Jack Giblin is gonna be a scary duo at WR for Morse to throw to

You gotta take a few things into account Davis, 1. Demarcus was the feature back which means he got majority if not all the carries Dauphine wasn't. 2. Demarcus played with one of the best WR in the state which allowed WB's offense to spread the field better. Dauphine played in a offense where the defense knew either 1 or 2 players where getting the ball, so the defense could key in on those two.

6A and 5A backs have to deal with bigger and faster defenses than smaller schools do, but they also have the benefit (generally speaking) of bigger offensive lines. Also, RBs in lower classifications are asked to do more because there isn't as much depth. That's a luxury that 6A players usually get. I don't think it makes one class better than another, just something I've noticed covering games from 2A-6A.

Ummm 193 is not for off from 200 plus. Take away the playoff game abd Demarcus is at 202 and 1400 plus yards. 200 better than Dauphine with about 10 more carries against the same opponents. Do they just hate Westbrook, My Son, or Me??? When the 2 where tested I think that Demarcus tested about 30 points higher on 2 separate combines!!! Plus he obliterated him statistically!!!

So what you are saying is that if Demarcus does not win the WRS Offensive award it is because of politics?? C'mon man!!

This is my first year to vote and Demarcus is one of the 4 players I nominated for the offensive award. But, the other three that I nominated I feel are just as deserving. No politics involved!

This award isn't just about 6A-5A.

There is no unanimous choice on either side of the ball. Choate, Smith, Morse, Jacquet, Seay and Kendrick King can all make strong cases on offense. DT, Roney Elam, P.J. Locke, Dan Adams, Blain Padgett could all make the case on defense.

    Tough choices IMO.

I don't know that to be true at all. How do you know for a fact that people here don't demand more from their programs? All I see you do on here is take shots, even in the thread about stat-taking (maybe SETX doesn't have the money). Like I said, it doesn't matter where a school hires from, if they feel he is the best fit then they will hire him. I could mention the small schools in the area but I know that wouldn't fit your narrative. How many coaches have been with their programs for a long time and have not produced good seasons? What do you define as long? Why do you think you represent all of Houston anyways? Did every school tell you their requirements?
