I said before the season started we had the best 1-2 combo in the district. And that we should be favored for the title since most other teams at the top just have one pitcher who is clearly better than the others.

I think Vidor is feeling real good about this one. After the big win against Nederland without using our best pitcher. We should only have one problem and that is not taking Lumberton to lightly. But I say we will remain focused. Vidor 13 Lumberton 2

What happened to this tradition? I thought it was fun last year to get a run down of everyone who did well the previous week.

I didn't mean to sound as if I were insulting the district. They are the best 3A district in the state. There are however few, if any, D-1 players for him to play against night in and night out. As opposed to our district for example which has almost every team with future D-1 guys. Even the teams at the bottom last year like Ozen has D-1 pitcher in Lott and D-1 infielder in Gardiner. They finished next to last in our district with these two guys. Hey, Jasper beat us and LCM last year. They were a great team. But I am talking about night in and night out.

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. 1. Barbers Hill- Heard they had a move in that would make anything less than a state title a big, big let down. 2. Westbrook- To much of a talent pool in Beaumont to choose from for the smaller schools in the area. 3. Jasper- Many from the state title team returns so they should be this high until they prove otherwise. 4. Vidor- You can call me a little biased if you want, but IMO we have the best "team" in our district. Maybe not individual player but "team". 5. PNG- Eric Harrington sets the tone. And it is loud. 6. LCM- They won district last year, but I don't think they have the pitching to repeat. 7. Bridge City- With Matt Hicks in 3A he will be dominate. Personally would like to see him against better competition. 8. Nederland- Will have the best athletes as always, but just to much spring football going on over there. 9. HF- I see these guys suprising some people in that district. Landry is to good of a coach to have two down years in a row. 10. Ozen- Pitching seems to keep them in every game. Play a little defense and you are in the hunt.

Last year some called the '06 pirates the most talented team in school history. If that is the case then the '07 pirates may just pass them up. They look to be loaded. I think a district title is not just a possibility, but it should be a probability.

I am as disappointed as anyone else. But not for me. I am disappointed for the kids that worked hard all week. Some of you people act as if you have been personally offended by the outcome of a high school sporting event. It really makes you look kind of sad. To say that the outcome of a high school football game embarrassed you is really quit pathetic. Unless our kids were unsportsmanlike or they quit trying, and I am certain neither of these things happened. Some of you need to get a life. Our opponents get on here each week and give our team more respect than some of our own “fansâ€.

Your post is just another way for you to continue to spew your negative attitude behind an annonymous screen name. You calmed this post down, but the undertones are still there. And you sir, after reading all of your posts are part of the problem. Sorry if you don't like it, but it is true. Just want to say. I made no errors. In fact you supported my comment about Nederland. Saying it was true, but that is because of past success. Maybe strong support helped lead to the past success as well. As far as the BC job. You nor I nor anyone on this board has any idea how that process went. What went into his decsion or that of the BC school board. All I no is that if a coach comes to a town like ours and wins almost instantly like he did he would be a hot commodity in the coaching ranks. But then again you said I may be right about that as well. So really no mistakes here.

OK I have tried to stay out of this, but can't anymore. I would very much like to see winning % with that list of head coaches. I would bet Mathews is in the top 5 maybe top 3. Also from what I read on these message boards it is no wonder a coach doesn't stay more than a year or 2. You people bash every thing they do. You brought up Nederland. Last year they started 0-2 in district. Were their people on here saying it was time for a change? Someone had to go? No they had faith that their coaches would get it going and they did. What if there had been an uprising from the parents? Would that have impacted the kids? Yes, and they probably wouldn't have been able to make the playoffs. The parents were part of the solution instead of being part of the problem. After Mathews lead the pirates to the playoffs I am certain he could have gotten a new job. Bigger school, more money and better chance to win on a regular basis. He didn't. Why? Because he cares about the community and the kids of the community not just the football kids. I have seen him enteract with kids at basketball and baseball games and they all know him and respect him. It is not the case at every school. And this has not always been the case at Vidor. Many of the AD's you listed wouldn't have minded canceling all other sports. These were not great men. Mathews is just that. They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well it takes a community to support an athletic program, and a good % of us suck at it. Until this improves. I beleive nothing will change. We must stop being part of the problem (negative attitude) and start being part of the solution.

I am not 100% sure there weren't a couple of others as well back in the 70's. I don't have the resources to prove it, but I am pretty sure. I know for a fact that when it was one team goes. We had a couple of ties and played in the play in game. Don't remember all of the results however.

We split our season series with the Indians and I can tell you that their pitching is for real. I say Indians in two.

The game Friday will be the one to secure a spot in the playoffs without a Saturday game. Which makes it the biggest of the year. Tonight is a big game, but we should win no question. Then the worst we can do is tie. Then it is back to pirate stadium for the game of the year for the pirates. By the way you didn't make a prediction.

Take it easy on the kool-aid there daytonbaseball. We still hold our fate in our own hands. We have already beaten both of the teams we are about to play and we have LCM at our place this time (should be a packed house.) I honestly see Nederland as having a better shot at tying us than you guys simply because they don't have to play PNG again.

Some of you Dayton people really critized me when I had some info wrong about the Ozen game, but I will not respond in like kind. I believe I was called clueless. Hancock is the head principal at our school. But like I said I doubt that is the problem.

How about one of the parents who are on the school board or have some pull give Hancock a call. Unless it is Dayton who is slow playing again. I believe our people could get it done. My guess is Dayton's coach needs until Friday to find his hat after the loss to Ozen.

Great point magic. I have wondered the same thing. Surely our coaches are fighting for this. Anything is better for our boys than Fri, Sat, Mon, Tues, Fri. We have the best team we have had in years and years, and our right on the brink of the playoffs. Our coaches have to get us in position to have a chance over this last two weeks. I say lets play today.
