Kingwood Park 44 Nederland 41/Final
TxHoops replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The one knock on English I've heard from Nederland fans on here that may have legs is over-substituting. There is a difference between a Silsbee that has 10 players who would get significant minutes for any team in the area and other teams playing that deep (and even deeper) that don't have quality depth. But English at least does it primarily in games where he has a decent lead. I see some coaches play every game 11 or 12 deep (significant minutes) and 4 or 5 kids wouldn't wouldn't even start on many JV teams in that district... -

You know that's his beef with WOS. Not hard to add 2 + 2. But as I said, he will give props to some coaches, including Sutherland. I think his problem with English stems from some upsets over Ozen of English-coached teams. But he can make an argument about lack of championships. And he correctly points out the lack of talent argument is sometimes overplayed. But he overstates his case. English is at a minimum a good coach - I would argue a very good coach. -

Yes indeed. I would have hated it for him if he were unable to make it back, but even worse for that senior group. Need all their weapons to be able to make a deep run. -
Some would argue biggest games period. Would have to be either Silsbee/HJ or Central/Ozen.

This cracked me up -
I bet it will get done then. Davis has really beefed up HJ's schedule since taking over. It's such a good, healthy rivalry it would be a shame to not play anyway.
-
The problem is that Silsbee AND HJ are far and away the best 2 4a programs in this area. To lose those two games with a playoff-type atmosphere is costly to both teams IMO.

Too hard to get 2 coachs to agree, much less 4, but.... wish they would flip for Montagne Center if Beaumont wins or like the Merrill Center if FB wins. -

I agree Soulja. And as much as it pains me to defend OF... Although most of us know he is way off on English, it's hard to argue his opinion has anything to do with race. After all, I believe in another thread (I'm too lazy to find it) he stated that Sutherland is the best active coach in the area. I think Todd is still white. -
To answer the original question posed, I think Trump ccould beat Hillary and has a strong base is so-called "moderates." I think many times they label themselves as such because they don't particularly like either party. As has been said ad nauseum, he is viewed as an outsider and that plays well to much of the populace. For the record, I think Rubio could beat Hillary as well. I think her best shot would be against Cruz, as much as some don't like to hear it. Not saying she can't beat the other two but I think her chances are best against our senator.

Reminds me of Justin Bieber telling Frank Sinatra how to sing (disclaimer: any matching of first names is purely coincidental)... -

Amen. Rarely does a team run the gauntlet without an "ugly win" or two. Win and advance. All that matters. -

Just saw replay. Good no call. Defender was absolutely straight up. Shooter initiated all the contact. -

Stelly thought Mirabella was fouled on the last 3 pt attempt. What did you think, AAW? -

Tech should have Jordan Jackson back (Sheryl Swoopes' son who is a freshman) and hopefully Texas will have Ridley back. Should boost their sleeper potential. -
I think MossHill is talking more about a team that can handle the pressure and slow it down and force them to play the game more in half court sets. Wheatley certainly is capable of winning but teams that like to run play right into Silsbee's hands. That's where the depth kicks in. I have seen plenty this year of teams going 10-12 deep when they are actually 7-8 deep and the team suffers. But Silsbee is legit 10+ deep. You're right OF - there may be a team as deep in 4a as Silsbee but I'd have to see it. Most years there's not.

One thing I have noticed with Devon is he so good at penetrating and is looking to set his teammates up (his vision is among the best in the area - scary he's only a freshman). Too often though, his teammates are spotting up outside the 3 pt line instead of slashing to the basket. So his pass is a kick out instead of an assist at the basket. Adams and Harris in particular can both finish at the rim so when the three isn't falling for them, I would like to see them cutting more to the cup. Maybe a little nitpick but just my personal opinion.

I think a 44 pt lead on a 134 pt pace already qualifies for nasty!
