  1. I agree, I have it around 31-29. I think Kadon will have to make a game winning drive on the road to win it. Our D has to show up on Friday. Last nondistrict game of the season.

I agree with your assessment.  Your D will have to contain them and give your O a chance to win the game late.  The thing I learned from our game is that no matter how well your D plays (Friendswood's D is very strong) GR is going to score and they can score quickly.  Their defense is not as strong as their offense.  Some of their O linemen also play D line and can tire in the second half.  Friendswood came out in the second half and went to a hurry up offense taking advantage of the new clock rules and tired the GR D out to get the lead.  Even then though GR scored on long pass play and a long drive to retake the lead on two separate occasions.  They are tough, but they can be beaten.  Getting lucky will help -- so I wish PA good luck on Friday.

  2. Not to interrupt the fun you guys are having, but George Ranch is a very strong team.  Three fast running backs, a QB that can throw, big O and D lines.  Friendswood beat them on a last second 4th and goal throw and that throw would have been meaningless without a miracle defensive score that came before that.  And, we were playing them game two at our house. I'm not saying that PA Memorial cant beat them, but they are really good and will be a challenge.  Looking at PA's schedule there are some tough games ahead in district as well. If PA wins district they will prove themselves to be one of the best teams in the area and the state.

  3. Kingwood put a beating on my Mustangs last night.  They came out strong and scored on the opening drive and we were playing catch up the rest of the game.  It was 14-5 them at the half.  Friendswood came out of the half strong and scored on their opening drive and one more time in the 4th to cut the lead to five with five minutes to play, but Kingwood scored a late touchdown to put the game away.

We didnt look like we were fully in it till the second half and by then our defense was tired and battered and couldnt keep Kingwood from scoring.

Friendswood suffered some significant injuries in the game and will need our by week next week to heal up.

  5. Mayfield:

I dont know you, I didnt witness what happened in the game, and I know nothing about your sons. I do know what its like to have someone run down my child and I know the rage that creates in me as a father.  From your posts in this thread I would say that you have worked your whole life to overcome the circumstances in which you grew up and to protect your children from the dangers you had to face.  If that is true then you have shown your sons what a man really is.  By posting your response here you have defended them like a father defends his kids in a manner that is equal to the way in which they were attacked.  My only advice is to continue to be the example you have been to them so far.  Let your rage pass and show them that a man can be above the criticism of others and forgive those who speak from ignorance.  You and your sons are to strong to be hurt by the word of fools.

  6. I will be posting the link to the YouTube video I made of the game.  WHAT AN AWESOME GAME!!!  I think my Pentagon T works in reverse when playing Friendswood.  Friendswood's #66 is a horse!!!  What a beast of a lineman!!!  He cleared the way for the 3rd quarter surge of Friendswood.

Looking forward to that link Purple.

#66 didnt play football until about a third of the way through last season.  Believe it or not he was a baseball player.  He has come a long way and is playing really well.

  7. Was that young Tyler Page with that td toss? I heard he is getting most of the snaps now over the senior. He comes from good stock. His dad started in front of a young WR named Lloyd Hill at Odessa Permian.

Tyler (soph) took every snap and QB last night.  We all knew he was the future, but it looks like the future is now.  He is sneaky fast and illusive and his passing is coming along (obviously).

  8. FW rb is a hoss to stop, good win for FW

Sam Longbotham is a big strong kid with surprising speed.  He can get the tough yards and will bust two or three runs a game.  He should of scored last night -- got tripped up at the ten going in and was almost able to jump into the endzone.  Came up a half yard short.  In the end he rushed for 190 against a big, tough d-line.  Or O-line did a great job.

  9. We play GR in 2 weeks.

They are good, real good.  Big on both lines and very fast in the backfield. Your defense will have to play assignment football and stay not over pursue on sweeps and edge runs.  All running backs are tough to bring and shifty.  They can stop on a dime and be back at full speed in a heartbeat. Their passing game is a little suspect, but then they run it well enough not to need it much.

We played well and deserved the win, but it took a defensive touchdown and a last minute semi-miracle reception to beat them.  I honestly think Friendswood's superior conditioning was the difference.  Their defense wilted a bit at the end of the first and again at the end of game.  If your offense can sustain hurry up drives and take advantage of the new clock rules to get set without giving the defense a break it will help.

Bottom line is that they are going to score.  I dont think anyone can hold them to less than the mid 20s, so your offense has to find ways to score consistently against their big defensive line.

  10. totally agree! I love the Abe, just not the walk up top on the home side to get a seat when its packed during LP games.

I know exactly what you mean.  My parents season tickets were about 2 rows from the top for most of my life.

For those that are still bashing Abe Martin, I'm not saying its the nicest stadium, just one of the great places to see a game because of the atmosphere.  And, I've been to games in Houston, Dallas, Austin and lots of places in between, they still dont have the history and atmosphere of the Abe no matter how nice the facilities.

  11. Whoa there Abe Martin Stadium bashers, what's the problem -- you from Nacogdoches or something.  Abe Martin Stadium has been there since the 70s and has hosted some real talent and great games.  The article didnt say they had to be the nicest stadiums just the best.  If you've never been there during a home game, late in the fourth quarter, when the Panther's are driving for a game winning score, and the band is playing "Strivin'" then you have missed one of the great high school football experiences.  Not to mention that the game hosted one of the great high school rivalries ever (Lufkin v. Nac). The stadium may not be as nice as the new ones, but the place is one of the greats.

BTW, Tyler's Rose stadium deserves to be on the list.  Earl Campbells home stadium should be on the list no matter what it looks like.

  12. Should they have shaken hands? Yes.
Should Mike Neil be butt hurt? No.
    Conflict resolved moving on

These are pretty much my sentiments.

The coaches and administrators who work for BISD and Central are the ones to handle or not handle the situation.  If the coaches dont correct the players for not shaking hands then the issue will rightly be up to the residents and school board of BISD to address. Adults should know better than to address comments to kids and then become involved in a war of words with them later.  This was an incident between players and the players had it settled on the field before adults (and I'm including those at the paper) got involved. Thats the way it should be.

  13. Friendswood's defense dominated the game holding TC to 116 yds of offense.  The Mustang D stopped TC with a goal line stand in the second that included a stop on 4th and goal from the one inch line and again in the fourth with TC inside the five with an endzone interception.  The offense looked creaky and 35 passing yds isnt going to be enough, but a great start to the season.
