*PN-G 14 Vidor 7 Final/Comments*
bullets13 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
poor officiating or not, what a gritty effort by both sides. PNG did what they had to do to get by, and vidor put a scare into the top team in the district. congrats to both sides on your play. -
i think they would finish in the middle of the pack in 22-4A this year, which would be a very respectable result. I'd guess they'd beat: LCM, Vidor, Ozen. I'd give them even odds against Central. I think they'd probably lose to PNG, Nederland, Lumberton, and Dayton (but they might could pull one upset off against these four). Overall prediction: 4-4 in a very tough 4A district. of course, this prediction is just for this season, with all of their seniors. If they lost some of their key players due to UIL rules, the picture would be changed pretty dramatically, and they would probably struggle to get 3 wins.

most of you have hit this issue on the head. it is more embarrassing to have someone kneel the ball midway through the fourth. you can't expect a backup to get into the game and not try to do his best, or not make it into the endzone when he has the chance. the only way you can have a gripe here is if the opponent's starting running back is still carrying the ball late into the 3rd and 4th quarter, or if the opponent is still putting the ball in the air after being up 40 or 50. if your team can't stop 3rd and 4th (or even 5th and 6th) string running backs, then that's on your team and coaches, not on the opponent's coach who is doing his best to keep things reasonable while getting backups playing time.

Who is the greatest Astros pitcher ever?
bullets13 replied to bobcatfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It's gotta be roy... if you wanna take some of the other players' entire careers, maybe you can choose someone else, but just going on astros stats, he wins hands down. -
Participation is the most important part of high school football. I went to HJ, and we had an enrollment of 700 or so, and probably 60 kids suited up for every game. another 100 or so were in the band, 35 in drill team, 15 cheerleaders, and 30 hawkeye escorts. This means of all of our students, approximately 250 or so were involved directly in every football game. Another 300 (or more) were in the stands for every game. To me, creating student and community involvement is by far the biggest benefit of HS sports. Winning is important because it's easier to get behind a winning team, but winning is not the most important result of HS football. A program is successful if it keeps the student body and community interested and excited about their school and team.

any word on if the blood on brian fuentes' sock is real? ;D -
i'd love to see it happen, but whoever loses the lumberton/nederland game won't be in the top 25 after the loss. if lumberton does beat nederland, i hope the voters have enough sense to move them up to where they belong.

POLL: Port Neches-Groves vs Vidor
bullets13 replied to PNG1992's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
the only people that really think vidor will beat png are a few fans from vidor (and hopefully the vidor players). i'm not saying it can't happen. vidor is usually good for an upset every year. the idea of anybody actually picking vidor over png is kind of silly to me though. vidor is having a rough year, and png has been on fire of late. png by a lot. -
and lumberton fans wonder why people don't like them... a select FEW of you turn entirely unrelated threads into opportunities to talk about how good ya'll are.
-
Eh, who cares... there are idiots everywhere... we can't let a few stupid people ruin the spirit of the game.
-
not about the kid... i do know that a lot of infections are passed around in weight rooms.
-
does he play football or something?
-
so you're saying that ya'll thought you couldn't be beat, but now that you've been brought back down to earth, you can't be beat? ;D

it's been a few years since i played, but i distinctly remembering hardin being pretty bad. also, we had to change in their gym (i ran naked across the top bleachers in order to be seen by anyone who may be walking by). I haven't been there since 2001, so if it's nicer now, don't get mad at me hardin fans...

if they win out, they are guaranteed a playoff berth.

Bonds likens departure from Giants to being 'fired'
bullets13 replied to KFDM COOP's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I have trouble with the whole "barry bonds" issue. I don't like him, but i respect him. I like watching him play, but he gets on my nerves. I have no problem with his having the homerun record, but i still secretly take pleasure in the fact that the ball is going into the HOF with an asterick on it. His knees are too bad for him to play in the field, yet he throws a fit when San Fran (in the NL and obviously without a designated hitter) doesn't renew his contract. He's going to want rediculous money, and then only play 85-90 games. At times, he refuses to speak to the media (which i like about him), but when he does, he often comes off looking like an arrogant jackass. He's been overshadowed by steroids rumors and a "bad attitude", but the man can hit! He holds the homerun record, and he's played the last several seasons in one of the toughest parks to hit homeruns in. Can you imagine if he'd been playing in Arlington, Houston, New York, or Boston? How many of his fly ball outs would've reached the seats in a hitter friendly park? It's just tough for me to form an opinion. He's the player that fans love to hate, but how many sellouts is he responsible for every year? He has been through hell and back with the media, but how much of that has he brought on himself? I do know this... he may not be good for the tradition of the game, but he's done wonders for it's popularity. In an era known for it's steroid use, he's been the game's best and brightest steroid using star*. *the only proof i have to back that up is the massive size of his head, and all the rumors. you gotta admit though, his head does kind of look like an orange on a toothpick. -
I don't know why anyone would promise that dayton or nederland would win. it's going to be a game that could go either way. if i were a betting man, i wouldn't want to put money on this game one way or the other.

Play-offs or Concurrent Season with a domestic cup?
bullets13 replied to Bon_Mot's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
it'd be nice if soccer got big enough in the states for new york to have a few different teams to choose from, and create darby matches all over the US. of course, if it got that big, the teams would all have die-hard fans, and relegated teams would still have big fan bases like the smaller teams in england. -

bullets13 replied to Bon_Mot's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
umm... what you said ;D. i agree with you on pretty much all points. -
i'm going to go with probably... i'd give ya'll 50/50 odds against nederland. if ya'll beat them, ya'll are in easily, if ya'll don't, things will be interesting.
