Even a blind squirel finds an acorn every once in a while. And it aint how you start the race but finish the race. Bring on some playoffs.
Playoffs? Playoffs? They just need to try to win another district game! (in my Dick Vermeil voice) LOL

I just found this by googling National Anthem etiquette. I never really thought about there being any sort of prescibed rules regarding etiqutte during the palying or singing of the National Anthem prior to reading this thread although I am not suprised to find that there are. I guess standing, removing my cap and placing my hand over my heart is just what I saw others do when I was young and now feel it is what is neccessary to show proper respect to my country. Below is the information I found: In 2007, Congress addressed this for the first time in 36 USC 301. This U.S. Code therefore created the first mandated national anthem etiquette. The pledge of allegiance should be rendered by standing at attention, facing the flag, and placing the right hand over the heart (the salute). Uniformed personnel, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and military personnel in uniform should render a hand salute. When the national anthem is played or sung, U.S. citizens should stand straight and rigid and salute at the first note and hold the salute through the last note. The salute is directed to the flag, if displayed, otherwise to the singer.
Not sure why anyone would have a problem with this but it's a free country!
This is what I thought too....Its not like the kids were wearing black gloves and holding a fist in the air in protest! GOODNESS! ::)
I would think everyone would do a little research b4 we get to discussing coaches credentials, not sure about one coach but the one at Ozen happen to play high school basketball ,but even at that ,there are a lot of things you have to take into consideration does he have parent, community, BISD(PRINCIPAL,AD, SUPERINT, PLAYERS ETC....) and last but not least how many shots did he miss (the coach),reb. did he get ,Players Play Coaches Coach.
No, coaches do not shoot a single shot, however, it is the head coaches responsibility to put those kids in a POSITION to win...To lose by 17 to a Livingston team that has struggled all season to get W's, and you are fighting to try to win, what USED to be a routine district championship, is unacceptable. Say what you want, thats just the truth. Its nothing personal, but the BISD programs are falling from greatness to medicrity seemingly overnight. Why? The kids are still there.... ::)
A little military service will make you appreciate the meaning of the National Anthem and what it represents. It bothers me more that people talk and goof around during the NA but most reflect what their parents do and if their parentsdon't correct them, it will eventually become meaningless. How many kids know the sacrifice of what happened in Vietnam? They become less and less because Veterans Day and Memorial Day are treated like any other holiday and some places treat them like another day of the week. in our scool system the option is there to be in school on those holidays but not MLK Day. Something is wrong with that picture.
:o WHAT? MLK Day? NEDERLAND ISD DID NOT observe the MLK Holiday...It was a TEACHER INSERVICE DAY...Man don't get me started, please...Hey, by the way...your hood is showing... ::)

Central has not won a district title since 1999. ::)...How about that? NEDERLAND has won a district title more recently than these three schools have...NEDERLAND..14-0...Think about that one....Lincoln is CLOSED since 2002 and has won district more recently than 2 of the three Beaumont schools... :o
Now, Dickie, that's tacky! ;D ;D ;D ;)
I am sorry TV, but the state of BISD hoops is sickening! 8)..I could understand it better if the kids were not there, but they ARE...Its just pitful, IMO!

Interesting Question about district 20-4A
Dick Vitale replied to Dick Vitale's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I would go THIS FAR: 1. Hardin Jefferson 2. Silsbee 3. Nederland 4. Central 5. Ozen 6. LCM 7. Livingston 8. PNG *replacing Lumberton and Vidor with Silsbee and HJ Tragic... :(...true, but tragic, considering the talent pools, history, and school sizes. You add two 3A programs to this district and Ozen MISSES the playoffs....just sad. :o -
How long are we going to accept the answer "thats just how it is in Texas"? Its not fair to the KIDS that play basketball...BISD should really re-evaluate what has taken place in their boys basketball programs in recent years...You want the BEST qualified basketball coach to TEACH your kids BASKETBALL, right? Is this what is being done, here?

This is the world we have to live in being a part of BISD.
What saddens me is this...BISD HAS TALENT....However if you drop two 3A schools in district 20-4A (HJ and Silsbee) They finish 1 and 2....This should not happen...I will repeat this fact: 2 of the 3 BISD coaches never played basketball, and were initially football coaches at the start of their careers...as for the one who has played....I won't even begin to talk about that one...Question: Do you think that Katy or Southlake Carroll or North Shore would hire a FOOTBALL coach that never played FOOTBALL? I think a great injustice is being done to the kids of BISD as far as boys basketball is concerned right now...There...I said it.. >:(
Just to let you know Coach Sutherland at HJ was a football guy first and now look what he has done....
And that is noted...I would bet my left hand that he PLAYED basketball in at least high school..Did you think about my question? Would the elite football programs in Texas hire a head coach that has never played football before?

Had this convo the other night....If you dropped Hardin Jefferson and Silsbee in district 20-4A, where would they finish THIS SEASON? I have a pretty good idea that this will hurt some egos on here, but its just a "hypothetical" scenario...Think about the head to head competitions here with those two 3A programs... 8)...my pick: They would finish 1 and 2... ;)...What do you guys think?

But enough about that nothing will come of any further discussion on this subject. Some people will find ANYTHING to complain about.... ::)..you guys CAN'T be serious here....Do you watch college basketball? The players usually line up and place their right hands on their teammates shoulders....Mr. Baller, (the guy that started this madness) find something else to gripe about..... ::)

He was the best shooter i've seen come through Vidor in a while.
Yes, Cole was a starting underclassmen on that senior laden Vidor team that Beat Ozen 3 times in 1 year. After all of those seniors left, Cole came into his own as a clutch player. Although that team really wasn't as good as the year before, Cole commanded attention close to the end of games.
Noah did not start on the team who beat Ozen 3 times in 2004, but he did come off the bench for quality minutes. George did not even start on that team as a Junior until later that season. Vidor made the playoffs in Noah's Soph and JR seasons but fell one game short of the playoffs his senior year. He did not have a lot of help his Senior year.
