Nederland fans, take it as a compliment that so many people are talking about Nederland, no one would being saying anything unless they were doing good things. No matter how good you are people are always going to talk about you, mostly because of jealousy, so take it as a compliment and ignore the rest. I know it is tough to do, but that is what I would hope I would do.
I don't worry about small opinions of small people...
More insults, huh? Why do people that do not have the same opinion that you do have to be deemed "small"? What makes you so much "bigger" than they are? Is your opinion THAT much greater?...( I am saying they, because I am taking me out of that "small people" equation) -
FIrst of all, I do not accept your "declaration" on the vast superiority of talent. ( I fully understand what you are saying but cant say on here) If we define "talent" as who can do the most double pumped 360sand runs/jumps the fastest/highest, I might agree with you but I have a different definition of talent or perhaps believe that intellect plays a bigger part in the game than you do and sorry, but the intellect factor" ain't" no greater at the Beaumont schools than in Nederland. A good example of the intellect factor is how HJ continues to be competitive against teams with far superior athletes. The 91 state championship team was full of not particularly athletic caucasians who were slower but could run longer than any of the "more talented" athletes and they polished their skills to a higher degree than the competition did.
With all of that you said....1991 HJ wanted NO PART of the 1991 PA Lincoln team....Period...Was it due to the "superior" HJ "intellect"..no way...Contrary to your belief, certain coaches, (myself included) Believe that you must TEACH the game of basketball...every day...This "intellect" that you speak of is not a right of passage for less athletic teams..It must be taught...Basketball IQ must be a part of what you teach in your program...I know how good that 91 HJ 3A state championship team was....However, they were no match for the more athletic, high basketball IQ of the 1991 Class 4A state champion Port Arthur Lincoln team...Athletic does not always equal low basketball IQ. It may sound good when trying to rally non athletic troops in a locker room speech, when facing better "athletes", but it is not always the case..Some coaches that are blessed to "always coach talented players", understand this fact...And they keep winning, while people seem to wonder how it happens so frequently...I know why... 8) -
No sir... ::)....Not even close....
Just a matter of perspective" sir". And, in this case, my opinion is 100% every bit as valid as yours. Your lengthy basketball resume has no extensive turnarounds in it and therefore you dont have as much insight in that area as you perceive yourself as having. A shining example is last year when Tom Thibodeau was selected Coach of The Year with Doug Collins and Greg Popovich behind him. Nowhere in the voting was Eric Spoelstra and/or Rick Carlisle who fought it out in the NBA finals.
I guess you and I, although both brilliant, have different perspectives on the subject... ;) 8)
Perhaps you have forgotten that I am familiar (from close up) with state championships both from a players and coaches perspective. Regarding your toilet comment- I guess that also applies to Ozen splitting with Livingston?
Been there, done that, a time or two, and yes...the Livingston split is a part of that toilet conclusion... 8)
Ozen the toiler dwellers.... has a certain ring to it.
They will be OK in due time, and things will be back to normal.....its an easy fix... ::) ::)
Let me get this straight. Nederlands split with Central and Ozen equals doomsday for Nederland, but Ozens split with Livingston is not? How convenient.
(HUGE SIGH).... ::) ::)...I expected Nederland to lose both second round match ups to Central and Ozen...They are more talented and it was no real shock...The fact that they are battling with Nederland, who is not a traditional basketball power, tells me that there has been a shift in power in 20-4A, although the talent pool at Central and Ozen is STILL greater than it is at Nederland..It should not be that way, but Nederland has a great coach, who has built that program from the ashes...The kids in BISD should be given that same chance...again... ::)
(an even bigger sigh) Translation= The Nederland wins over Central and Ozen earlier in the year mean nothing but the Central and Ozen wins over Nederland put things in "proper perspective" ( of course, according to the DV "proper perspective" theory) Ozen and Central should have won BOTH games with Nederland because they have so much more talent. Perhaps too much emphasis is put on "talent". If the talent is so superior, both Beaumont Schools should have won both Nederland games by double digit margins. And I S T I L L do not have a satisfactory explanation why the excessive talent lost to Livingston by a double digit margin and escaped LCM in overtime.
If you don't know, I am not at liberty to spell it out on here... ::)...Is it not coincidental that if the talent pool is still greater in BISD, but, other variables have changed, what would YOU conclude to be the primary issue? Its really not rocket science.. ::)....Can you tell me who the two most talented teams are in 21-3A? Ok...obviously...So if one of the less talented squads put together a two year streak of district wins, would you not start to question HOW this happened, if indeed there was a change of the guard at the helm of the program, but the kids were still pretty much in place as it was before? Fairly simple, if you think about it.... ::) -

There is a reason for everything...Not saying that anyone is at FAULT, but you know what it is....Guys didn't just show up at Ozen either for us because of our performing arts program... ::)...Build it and they will come...not mad at you for that... ;)
comparing your kids' education and the quality of the area you live in to eating food doesn't really work. no, i wouldn't normally pass up 4 restaurants of the same quality to eat 25 miles away, but i might if the service sucked, the food was 3 times the price, and my car might get broken into in the parking lot...
Simple parallel...I was saying that many really good schools are passed up (not necessarily speaking of HJ) to attend one school in particular for one reason or another...its not just coincidence...thats all I was saying.
But "really good schools" is a matter of personal interpretation, wouldnt you agree?
Of course....some are just more obvious than others, right?
We ALL know you can talk hoops. You clearly know basketball, and none of us are trying to discredit you. However, when you continuously take shots at our team and community, we are going to fight back. We have a strong community, and we stick together. Although i don't know anyone's identity on here (from Nederland) we are all family, and we all grew up together. This may be hard for you to understand coming from a big city environment. Not a cheap shot at you, just the way it is.
I suppose thats true, because if anyone on here talked about Madison (my alma mater) I could care less...Especially if there was any validity to it..The problem that I am having is the fact that EVERYONE else on here can have an opinion and its ok...I have one? then its "where do you coach, now" or "you rode Boutte's coattail to a state championship" or some other ridiculous statement like that...Why is it ONLY me? I have seen so much WORSE on here about Nederland and Coach E, but since you KNOW who I am, the shots come at me, that are not even CLOSE to being true...Thats not fair, now is it? I have always said that Nederland has made great strides under Coach English, yet you guys REFUSE to see the positive things that I say...Even some yahoo kid from Vidor wants to jump in!! I have NO WORDS for Vidor and how bad they are!! Yet, I am the target..why? I know how Lebron feels!! 8)

No, I didnt think that I should go to Sour Lake because they were good in basketball and my kids would definitely participate. PLenty of other reasons. Basketball not the main determinant of most peoples lives even though a few think life begins and ends with it.
I definitely understand that...I know mine does not. Basketball paid for my father's college education, my brother's, and mine too...I can tell you that growing up in my home, it was a great thing, but basketball wasn't the ONLY thing...With that said, I know why some families move to rural areas, heck, I LOVE living in SE Texas..Its a great place to raise my family...I don't disagree with you about that one bit.
