Look, I know the kid and his family, and I know their concerns. They are real. You're talking about a kid with options, lots of them. A stud in hoops, an absolute freak in track, and if he put his mind to it could excel in football and soccer if you can believe that. He is also in a family situation with options, up to and including moving if need be. On this one, believe me I know. They hope to stay put, but they might not. And mid-county is on the table.. And by the way, my sons are absolutely not Nederland kids, so this ain't my concern.
I believe you and I KNOW that this is the issue as it is with the others as well. This is why I said it will be a very interesting spring and summer as far as that goes.. ;)
And without naming names, I know of one of these Beaumont kids who may seriously consider Nederland if BISD stays as it is today as far as coaching. The reason for that is Brian English. Would rather stay put, but may not if there aren't changes...
Never, not happening, no way, no how...period, end of that...thank you and enjoy your day! 8)
There is a kid from Marshall who will be a factor around here for a while. Nederland folks know him from tournament ball. From what I've seen he is in the top 5 in Bmt for his age. He had some eligibility issues this year, but won't in the future (or his dad might kill him!). If the current crop of 8th graders decided together where to go (King kids, plus the Marshall kid, etc), it could get interesting. If there was an obvious choice, i.e. an exceptional coach in the bunch, it would likely happen. As it is now, who knows.... But I do know that there has been some plotting and planning going on among the kids...
Will make for a very interesting spring and summer! ;)

But Nederland will need more transfers to win outright district for the next 3-4 years. Plus isn't he at a JC
I was only clarifying that Ozen had a recent true D-1 a several years ago. Nothing to do with winning State ;)
Fact: Ozen has had 1 pro, and 4 Division I players in 15 years of existence.....That is NOT earth shattering by any means...and the Division I players and schools? Keena Young (BYU), Jason Dabney (TSU), Brandon Chapell (Lamar), and Kris Richards (Tulane)(Jason Breckenridge would have been the fifth, but an ACL injury kept him out of his senior season, he went on to play at Prarie View A&M)....We are not talking Duke, UNC, Kansas type schools here...I think winning a state title is not as easy as people may think it is, and it was DEFINITELY NOT guranteed by having Kendrick Perkins, either... Won it all in 2001 going 36-0, but in 2002, we faced another pro in Chris Bosh, along with 3 other D-1's ON THAT Dallas Lincoln TEAM, then in 2003, The team had Perkins, Young, and 9 sophmores that got most of the minutes and they still finished 34-1 losing in the state title game to FW Dunbar that featured 3 D-1's on that team...It was not a gimme, just because Perk was on the roster...Savaet is not doing a bad job, but the program is not what it once was...NO fault of his, but it was very difficult to follow Boutte in the first place...Kids had to be won over, the community had to be won over, and in the process, Ozen lost some kids that they would have normally gotten...Part of the process...They had to depend on more football kids this year too, than in year's past...It took them a while to get going, but now they are peaking at the right time....Most people just don't understand these facts.

Thoughts on Nederland/Ozen
Dick Vitale replied to Dick Vitale's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Saveat & staff out coached Nederland staff
They didn't do bad, but out-coaching them....may be a bit of a stretch...They came out with great intensity, execution, and defended superbly, then in the 2nd quarter they went to that handoff stall game...kinda took the air out of the kids and allowed Nederland to regroup and make a run...They got the W, but they were fortunate in that aspect, because that 2nd quarter could have made a huge difference in the outcome. In hindsight, Saveat has coached under some tremendous pressure these past few years and has been at the least, respectable.. -
