So why are y'all trying to see which game would be closer? Yates doesn't care about how much they win by as long as they win.
Not trying to determine which game would closer. I made a point that people (DV in this case) assume the outcome of a game before it is played due to simply 'athleticism'. Had Silsbee not shot so poorly at the FT line, they could have won the game against Yates, correct? To say that Nederland doesn't have the athletes (on another thread) to compete with Yates, but good enough athletes to beat Silsbee is a contradiction, no? DV was unable to provide any facts as to why Yates would automatically win. His opinion is: Nederland doesn't have the athletes to compete against them and Yates has 8 'athletes'. Only 5 play at a time though correct? ??? Hmmm?? I've received no answer about this before, but I will ask again: Since when does an athletic team equate to an automatic victory over a 'non-athletic' team?? Last I checked, NEVER! It looks good during warmups, but when the whistle blows and the ball is tipped, it's anyone's game, and Nederland has proven (I know some don't like facts) that over and again. 8)
I DO agree with you, to an extent...If your team is more athletic and you have at least a DECENT coach on the sideline, odds are, the team with athletes will win...Thats a fact...Now, does it ALWAYS happen? No, but at the high school level, more often than not.

I do agree that this charter school/basketball factory had NO BUSINESS competing in UIL PEROID, let alone in class 1A...That was just not a wise move on the part of the UIL.

ONLY because that weak 4a squad from Old Town Beaumont gave them a run for their money, huh? That weak team couldn't possibly beat Yates, huh. ::)
Yep, more kinda like that Pear Orchard squad gave Yates a run for their money in the final 13 seconds. ;)
Ozen hangs with Yates and loses by 3, but DV assumes that Nederland automatically loses to them even though Ned and Ozen split this year. ::) Gotta love his 'expertise'! ::)
I look at PERSONNEL, and Nederland has TWO players, and Yates has EIGHT...YOU do the math... ::) ::) You cannot POSSIBLY think that Nederland could play with, let alone BEAT Yates, do you? Ozen lost by 3 in NOVEMBER, yes, but how do you equate THAT with your team being able to play with them since you beat Ozen?...Its about matchups, and Nederland does not have ANYONE to match up with the Yates bigs...at least Ozen had SOME athletes, that will allow a late run or something like that...Nederland? No...GREAT coaching, but Yates would be a HUGE match up problem for Nederland...Come on man, this is what I do, I didn't learn this on YouTube! ::) ::)

HISD has open enrollment. They USED to have zoning, but that ended several years ago. Whatever school that you initially enroll in as a 9th grader becomes your "home" school as far as athletics go. Students are NOT allowed to transfer within the district and play varsity sports, they must play sub varsity for one year unless there is proof that the students family has moved into that area, and that has to be verified before varsity eligibility is granted. It's a flawed system and kids transfer, but it's not a problem that is exclusive to Houston.

Is Jim Larranaga going to let him on the hardwood after football season ends? That kid is ATHLETIC!!!! -
I just got off of the phone with one of many "AAU summer gurus", and I am just DISGUSTED! This guy, who called ME, asked about a kid of "his" that we are recruiting, that is eligible to leave junior college after just one year. He asked how much we were willing to "pay" to guarantee that this kid signs with us! :o :o I told him thats against the NCAA rules and thats not how we do it here...I WAS going to back off of the kid, but realized that its not HIS fault...PARENTS...If you are able to, PLEASE handle your kids recruitment, and stop allowing weasels like that guy to "pawn off" your kids...GET INVOLVED in the entire process! And DO NOT allow these guys to tell you that Division I is the ONLY way..There are SEVERAL different levels of college basketball in which in ALL they can earn a COLLEGE DEGREE, at little or no cost to YOU, which should be the ultimate goal.. AAU basketball is a necessary evil, but we must get scumbags like that one out of the system, because he will RUIN it for some unsuspecting kid! GET INVOLVED IN YOUR KIDS RECRUITMENT!! PLEASE! (off of my soapbox now) 8)

LAZEEK, this is not a witch hunt...I am simply saying that there HAS been some kids that have come into the HJ school system exclusively because of the basketball program...NOTHING wrong with that, however, I was trying to prove that point to our esteemed colleague, Mr. Nash... ;)
-
Thats where you're wrong, my friend...I know exactly what I am talking about and you know it... ;)...I give you a hard time about HJ, but fact is, YOU HAVE gotten kids in that came there JUST FOR BASKETBALL...Do you dispute that?
Dumb comments get no response from me... ::) ::) But since there are others who may be wondering, I will entertain you this one time! 8)....There are MANY Yates grads all over the country that have excelled in MANY different areas, including communication which would include television, radio, and journalists...Come on man, I know you could not have searched far nor wide and not known that...GET OVER IT! Remember you said "maybe crosby is just good this year" You ready to admit I was right about 20-4A this year?
It's all about matchups. Maybe Crosby was a bad matchup for Ozen. On The other side of the bracket, Central and Nederland lost to Georgetown. How ironic was it that they made it to the regional finals. Sooooo, maybe they were THAT good...
Wasn't georgetown blown out in the regional finals? That don't happen to good teams my friend
If that statement was true, then the Ozen team that lost to Chris Bosh's Dallas Lincoln by 20 WASN'T a good team..C'mon, man. Smh. Get over it bro! It could have been worst!
The proper word is worse, not worst. As previously stated many times before Yates was even reclassified as 3-a( hence it has nothing to do with the HJ loss to Yates), they dont acquire their players in the same manner that other schools do. IF the loss at Yates was the problem, I would have been complaining about a similar type loss to Central early in the year.
How does HJ "acquire" players, nash? Please, do tell... ::) ::)....Do they open their gym doors in the summer and allow kids to come play? If they are impressed by the program, and decide to come to your school, do they turn them away? I think not.... ::).....OR does HJ play with "homegrown talent"? If they did, in basketball, they would NOT survive...(see Lumberton, Bridge City, PNG, and ask how that homegrown talent works out in their communities) ;)

As I said before, you dont have to call it recruiting but the school still acquires the bulk of its players in a manner different from those with whom it competes. Two from Africa coming for communications excellence? Give me a break. I wonder if Mr. Wise coaches basketball in any other form other than at Yates? I wonder if any of the kids who play (have played) for him(in those alternate formats) wound up being students at Yates? Someone on here who is from Houston recently stated that the team had 6 players on it that were not some type of "move in". By the way, your racial inferences are also losing credibility.
And your constant hatred toward Yates HS Basketball program or anything else that is not Republican or non-"urban" is getting quite old! Build it, and they will come! Do you know who watches almost every single practice? Do you know who tries to recruit the players who practice there? I do for a fact because I have had parents of players on the Defenders tell me he does! Lets quit acting like it doesn't happen. As far as "UIL passing everything", UIL only gets involved after the DEC. And Yates' DEC is all HISD. More recognition that comes to HISD the better, so they will overlook a lot of stuff. ***Nothing I said in this post is an opinion. Please prove me wrong. Thank you.
LOL!
