  1. Glad to see a parent take interest in his kids. These girls will be as good as you make them. The better they get the more the nay sayers will cry. 90% of all kids will fail at what ever they try, the key is persistence, stick with it and the kid will be successful. Don't be up set if warren still does not win , because you cant control the other kids. most parent do not invest the time or money in their kids for them to be successful. You are on the right track knowing that there is talent, and doing something about it.

  2. problem

no.1 - lack of coaching/ a coach must develop these kids and that starts with the little kids. If you will watch, you will see that teams that have good varsity programs usually have good programs from the 7th grade up.

no.2 - lack of desire by the players to develop themselves which some coaches can instill in the players and some cannot. Example; Alverez came to Kirbyville which had been down for several years and took them to state and turned their program into a champion caliber program, He recently took Ennis to the state championship. The kids cannot be satisfied with second best. Coaches must be able to get the kids to buy into his program.

no.3 - You must have a good weight lifting program. Winning programs have good weight programs. If you don't have these kids on a weight lifting program (even in the summer) then you are falling behind the teams that have a good program.

no.4 - discipline. If a player don't follow the coach's program then he needs to know that he is off the team.

no. 5 - School board must be willing to make coaching changes when necessary, not wait 10 years to change a failing program.

EXAMPLE - Woodville has a good baseball program year after year, this is because of a good program developing the kids when they are young alone with good coaching.

Thank You Purpleeagle. A drunk is the last person in the world to know he is a alcoholic. Maybe some eyes are open now.

  3. I hear wdv ISD will build new baseball and softball facilities and also resurface the football  field with a artificial surface. This could be the start of something great for the kids and their athletic dreams. Someone is taking the athletic program serious. I hope this is just the beginning of many great things to come. The kids will be excited. As a parent and someone who loves sports, I also say Thank you.

    • This is a shame to. There are athletes in this county. There needs to be a culture change, it has to start at the top. Just cruise the halls of Tyler county schools. we have both size and speed the kids are willing but no one really puts forth an effort to show the kids how to be successful. It has to start with the parents and go all the way to the administration and coaches. Kids actually transfer out to find someone who will teach them. Lufkin Corrigan  benefit from these kids.   Those programs all have starters on their rosters from Tyler county. 1 Pro athlete actually lived his whole life in Tyler county and finally went to Corrigan to get quality coaching.
  4. There is a work ethic issue along with taking ownership for your actions in SETX.  Not saying there is no work ethic in SETX.

too many parents coaching from the sideline and undermining coaches as well as placing blame on coaches/teachers instead of holding child responsible for his/her failures.

I agree with this 100%.  But I have seen to many times the coaching does not recognize the talent they have or they are so used to having a .500 coaching record that the let great athletes just waste away. They are so concerned about discipline that they forget to let the kids have fun. At a Texas A&m camp my boys attended the coaches made a statement that every school they visit has discipline, But kids they are looking for must have attitude.

  5. From what I see the community is more involved. They don't accept average.the fans are more vocal the attitude is different fans barking and taunting opposition then hugging after game. First game I took my boys to they could not believe it, They loved it and wanted to be a part of it. S.E Texas sees it as more of a social event than buying a ticket to a butt kicking.

  6. Newton has a great coaching staff, not to mention the 1974 state team head coach was lidney Thompson, you can still find him on our sideline coaching today, we are lucky to have all his knowlage on our sideline"..........I'm also predicting a low score game,

    Newton-24

    Blanco-6

Yes, I know coach Thompson. He coached me years ago, Brilliant guy , best coach in the area, Hope head coach will rely on his experience. He can help in a pressure situation. Go Newton.

  7. Newton needs to stay focused in this game. look at the past history for east texas vs west texas or central texas. We have not won many of the match ups, even with more talent. The attitude and program history is different. People dont accept failure on the west side of interstate 45. Newton should win they have the athletes. The difference is coaching at this point.Good Luck.
