    That conversation shifted gears.

As far as parents moving their kids to schools that best suit their interests.. that's been happening since long before the talk of vouchers.  It can't be stopped.  I'm on the fence.  I see the arguments for and against.. but I think that maybe a parent's school tax dollars should go to the school of their choosing.  Schools should do better job implementing programs and others that A) keep kids there.. B)attract from outside.  Competition is good.. why shouldn't schools have to compete?

Yes an international shift to show the different avenues that can be taken to promote a good athletic and academic standards for all. Either that or monetary penalties be given if academic or athletic standards are not met.Years ago Every time a school lost a student it cost the school $9- 10 k per student. that is what the state paid for each student enrolled. Yes competition is good for all even schools.

At small schools it's difficult to justify paying what it takes to attract a quality football coach without attaching AD to the job.  Not only monetarily.. but NOBODY that's any good will go somewhere to be the head football coach while having other duties (classes, etc.).  Also, at a small school it's pretty much impossible to justify paying someone to be athletic director only as an administrative salary.

Double edged sword.  I am personally a fan of AD only positions.. but understand completely why it's not normally seen in smaller schools.  Schools the size of Jasper (4A) could probably get away with it.  But that deep, "the way it's always been done".. mentality has a stranglehold on a lot of places.

With that being said and I agree with everything you say. The only recourse some will have is to vote for the school voucher program. This will make it easier for parents to move their children to schools that best suit the interests of their children both academically and athletically.

Maybe.. however..  Many athletic director / head football coach have lost their job despite the athletic program as a whole being successful.. if the football team struggles.  On the other hand, when football teams are doing great but the rest of the program stinks.. AD/HFC still keeps their job.

WOS.  Newton. .. programs as a whole were fairly weak during those many years of football power and very few people even knew it.  Or cared. Yet, AD/HFC kept their jobs for years.

Meanwhile, I remember an AD/HFC at Barbers Hill lost his job after every program in the school won district championships and even had several team sports (baseball, softball, girls hoops, etc.) making runs at state.  But the football team was mediocre.  Fired.

I'm not saying you're wrong, just that perception is reality.  And the perception is that your athletic program can suck as long as football wins.. it doesn't matter how strong the athletic program is if football sucks.

This is why I would never make the head football coach the athletic director at a small school. They have a 1 tract mind when it comes to the athletic program as a whole. Jasper is not the only school going through this . Keep in mind they have arguably the best athletes in the state and cannot win in the other sports. A true athlete is good no matter what sport he or she plays. If they have a true athletic program they will all be successful.

  4. Ha ha yall don’t want me to get off the board. No one from Kelly has recruited anyone for anything. I only know off their coach we received lessons from him, and the kids I speak of play Football, Softball and Baseball. Their parents have asked my opinion of what it takes to play at the next level and what they could do to help make it a reality,  I help everyone as best as I can to guide them in the right direction. Not everyone likes what I have to say and that’s fine . Every one is responsible for their own kids development, I have put in 25 years and thousands of hours it seems with my own and others as of now 8 kids have went on to the next level from 4 different schools.  But being a liar and idiot what do I know.

  5. 1 last reply and I am done. Do you remember the 3rd game of the malakov series. The game ended with an error that cost us the game. That is not what cost us the game , the decision not to use our ace who had 20 something pitches left is what actually cost us the game. As in Huntington the starter had 20 pitches left. Again decisions ultimately cost us again. I would expect you to know this but I guess not. There are no kids capable of playing perfect baseball all the time. Coaching decisions play a larger role than you think. By the way I’m not the ones calling the school board. I am done. So you are correct I don’t care and I have been biting my tongue all year. I do have 4 friends with kids that have D1 aspirations that will be a bigger pain in the neck than me. I have been relatively civil.

  6. Look up the term credulous. There is more going on than meets the eye. Did the umpire not send the first baseman’s mitt back, was it not a huge embarrassment for the entire team. Did many school board members not get a call. You know yourself there are problems, keep your head in the sand. You are part of the problem.

  7. Umpires would not let them continue the game without a mitt, even tried to use the 1st base mitt. He would not allow that . Pollock would not allow theirs to be used. They were told they could not continue with the mitt. If they could not repair it game was over.

  8. Will Woodville school Board do away with all athletic programs except Football? I hope so. All the funds have ceased already. It is better to do away with them than continue as is. Next year the parents will need to bus their kids to and from games and split the umpires fees at the gate. Parents will need to hold fund raisers at the front door of Walmart if they want to continue playing.

No offers. I don't put too much into that stuff. Specially when a young kid is getting an offer based on how good he's projected to be in the future

Being proven at the Varsity level means absolutely nothing if you don’t have College offers. It just means you are just another good highschool ball player. There are millions of them.

The kid has some projectability being 6'2 170 as a freshman so I can see why he is on a watch list.

Look like Woodville coaching staff did the right thing leaving him on JV to get some reps.

I am sure your "Nephew" will have a good high school career

Not related but I would claim him in a heartbeat if he were. He is what every kid should be.

Looks like Diboll won your district last two years. You were outspoken last year untill you lost the first two games and you disappeared from this site. I agree woodville has a good program but you have not earned the title world beaters yet.

I agree with you 100% Newton will win district. With the exception that we will have the best QB to ever come through Woodville, it will be the same old song and dance as before.

Trust me he's D1 talent. I seen it his 7th grade year but he was just raw. He's worked with some trainers to refine his skills since then and is developing fast

Let’s not make excuses. The kid should have started last year. He didn’t just become a D1 prospect in the last 6 months.
