I figured as much. It was Silsbee's second team as well. Second series. I was impressed with some of our young guys. I definitely can see some of those kids getting more action.

Is SETX Powerhouse Football Back?

I remember a certain 80s WOS team knocking off the #1 5A team. I also remember a Newton team beating Ozen. -
Is SETX Powerhouse Football Back?

Why must we have 5A to be considered a powerhouse area? -
 The brave young man left us just before 11:00 this morning. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Silsbee's Hickman family needs prayers. Coach Hickman is a coach for Silsbee and his wife is the business manager in WOS. Their boy Nate has been battling cancer for right at a year. Things are in dire straits and prayers are desperately needed.

Tear in the muscle above the knee is what I was told earlier this evening. As Coop said surgery is very likely.

Silsbee plays Newton this year as well. That could be a good game.

The Orange Bowl Is Back! Who Wins This One?

If LCM did in fact get the new scoreboard think of all those WOS tds you will get to see twice. -

A lot of teams are still running the basic packages from the late 60s. I remember a "run n' shoot" being all the rage in the late 80s. Ask those Clements boys from Huntsville or the Detmers in South Texas about the 1980s passing games. Teams prepared and defeated those teams. On the flip side ask Newton if their playbook has really changed in the last 30 years. The only difference I can see is the size and speed of today's kids. I remember in 1985 during the dominant Chicago Bears superbowl run, Ditka fining and berating William "Fridge" Perry for being over 295. We have high schoolers bigger than that.

Former Silsbee standout leaves A&M

The kid lost some desire. He ballooned up weight wise and resembled nothing like his hs days. -

Not to stir up anything but it looks like my post was "modified". If I can not write a coach's name out here when he publicly was unsportsmanlike then I will say he was not "a coach" but the head coach. -

I can go along with that sentiment. I never had a problem with Kirbyville until the antics of a coach 2 years ago in the Silsbee game. Extremely unsportsmanlike. I have never seen the DPS and local law enforcement have to walk out to mid field and all but threaten a coach to settle down. -
.....but at the same time you have to get the practices in if for nothing else to get the kids acclimated to game conditions. When you watch NFL players skip training and preseason they either lag getting into playing shape or get injured quickly due to not being in game shape.

Wonder who they are. Coach usually downplays his squad. I believe I have only ever heard him say "we'll be alright". -

Cinderellas? What about underachievers.......
Tiger90 replied to Tiger90's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Every year there are teams that for whatever reason stumble. If they didn't then we would not have the "Cinderellas." Call it a feeling, but I see Nederland and Bridge City possible outside looking in. -
Cinderellas? What about underachievers.......
Tiger90 replied to Tiger90's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Aw c'mon man....in their own world they are champions. After all they were undefeated in peewee and middle school ball. All kidding aside, kids do need to feel they have a shot. I do not know of one person who wakes up looking to fail for the day. I felt Silsbee underachieved last year hopefully not this season. -
I can understand the cheapening feelings, but in our area our 4th place teams could probably win district in a lot of western districts. It is a shame how the Greater Houston area has such a bloodbath. Few championship games are really close. It is crazy for a team that fights and struggles and barely survives a region to totally demolish the opponent in the championship game. That shows how strong our area really is. On the plus side, a 4th place team that gets an opportunity to play a playoff game gives their school and community a shot in the arm. Kids like/need to feel successful. I was associated with a school that has tremendous basketball talent, but a horrible football squad. The kids who participated worked hard, but many talented kids would never go out for fb due to the lack of success. When kids think there is a shot whether it is 1st or 4th place they think "hey we're in the playoffs". It is very positive.

Who will fail to live up to the preseason hype?
