  1. Water cooler talk about Crosby is that when he gets pressured he has a tendency to throw high and though some drops were catchable balls his receivers and backs have made some good catches as well. What's your assessment of that. Also, I know against Humble y'all left some points on the field but y'all's defense played stellar.

The simple answer on that is because he's short and can't see over the rush. Aston had the same problem early on until he learned to put some touch on the ball or throw through windows. I think as he sees more pressure he'll become more efficient against it. What I do like about him is his high(for a short guy) release point and he holds on to the ball whenever he does take off with it. I think he'll become more prolific in the passing game as he makes more starts just like Aston did. On the defensive side of things the term "stellar" you used probably describes it the best.

*Now, we both know there's more cooler talk than that but it'll cease if we get to 10-0.
  2. Dayton played dayton football against humble.... we won the field position game and played good defense. At the risk of sounding like you here cougar14, we also dropped a td pass and kneeled the ball inside the 5 to end the game. So it could have easily been 24-7 or 27-7. I dont give a rip about making predictions on this game, i'm just glad Dayton is back to stopping/slowing down the run and making teams stall out with some regularity.

Genuine question Cougar14.... you said Cotton's numbers these next 2 years would be better than Walter's. Is he behind due to the cougar run game being so salty or is he just not there yet with the learning?

I wouldn't really say he's behind. Through Aston's first 5 games of his junior year he was 64-112 for 958 yards and 8 tds. Cotton is 64-105 for 945 yards and 9 tds. He also gets rotated out for the sophomore backup often. His passing numbers would be a lot better than what Aston put up through his first 5 games of his junior year if we could help him more by catching the ball. Over the next 5 games I think he's going to make a push for first team all district qb though. He also only has 5 starts for his career where Aston already had 17 starts at the same age so I think he's doing just fine.

  3. They would play them at a neutral site and whip their butts again.

I would focus on actually winning a game first before you talking about whipping a squad that's undefeated. Ned just dropped 50 on y'all guy, it took them all the way until their last possession to reach 20 on Crosby who still hasn't given up more than that at the midway point in the season. Congrats on you 1 bi-district win during my lifetime though.
  4. Think what you wanna think but I know that Crosby will have all they can handle and then some when dayton comes to town.
Crosby will end the season with two district losses 1 to dayton 33-12 and 1 to CEK by however many points CEK wants it to be.

Man, Dayton is going to hold Crosby to 12. The same team that gave up over 600 yards to King but NC held them to 374 total while scoring more points than Dayton. The same team that was crop dusted by CV who turned around and almost lost to winless Vidor? The same team that barely scraped up 250 total yards on Humble which couldn't get 100 total themselves while giving up almost 400 to Crosby? "We have the worst defense in the district but we will still beat Crosby by three tds." You already weren't deep and struggling on defense, now you've lost one of your better two way players and you're going to win by the same three tds LilTex was talking about at the beginning of the season? Typical Dayton logic, smh.
  5. That is if Crosby even makes it out of the first round.

If GCM gets in Crosby will get the loser of MCM, which will probably also have a loss to Central. Dayton would get the winner, so if I was you I would be the one worried about getting out of the first round. You're dead last in defense and Dayton still turns it over too much. For now I think Crosby folks are worried about KP. After that we have two weeks to get ready for the bubble screen and the fly sweep. Just like Dayton was undefeated district champs and favorites to go to state and blow out Crosby before the season started, reality has set in and you now realize if anybody is getting blown out or going undefeated it will be Crosby doing the work. I'll be surprised if Dayton is able to tackle their way out of the first round.
  6. I think I disagree with you on some of that. They have two really good RB's, a good QB, and couple of decent WR's. Their defense is really good from what I watched. Now, I'll admit that I haven't seen CEK this year, but I would argue that Central, CEK, or Crosby isn't as fast as Ridge Point and I don't think any of the 3 will beat them. I'm saying this from only watching one game, but they have most of their team back from last year and had a good run. CEK hasn't been to the playoffs in a while and you don't know how they will react in those big games. As for Crosby, I hope ya'll go far represent our district, but for whatever reason ya'll usually have a bad game in the playoffs and get beat early. As far as Central, I just don't know what to think of WB and PAM, so I would venture to say that Ridge Point is probably better then both of them (meaning Central non district games). We will have to see. I may be totally wrong though.

Ridge Point scored 12 points on Hightower and 13 on Marshall. Their qb has 4 tds and 3 picks on the season. They didn't make a run last year, after beating Wheatley from HISD they got beat 28-0 in the second round by Texas City who lost the very next week to Brenham. Ridge Point had trouble scoring last year against good teams and still has trouble scoring against good teams this year. Foster only beat WOS by 3 but blew Marshall out, Ridge Point won 13-0. They're the same squad as last year and probably won't even get out of the first round with their matchup against GR or Foster. Crosby has the defense to beat them, King has the offense to beat them, and Central probably has better athletes than them. Of all the schools over there, Elkins is the only squad that someone from over here can't beat.
  7. Hmm, Crosby all the way up to #13. Dave did pick us as a dark horse at the beginning of the season which got a few laughs on here. Should break into the top 10 if we get through the Dayton game unbeaten. Maybe Ole Dave knew what he was talking about?

Most interesting thing is 4 of the 5 Fort Bend schools are ranked in the top 9 in the state. These schools will be the second round matchups for the bi-district winners. Craziest thing will be first round games like Elkins and Ridge Point against Foster and George Ranch.
  8. let them over there tell it the twins should be at Bama

The difference between Austin and Tray can be exampled over the last two weekends. Williams got 24 carries on Porter in a game that was over in the first quarter. He got 18 more on New Caney in another blowout. Austin got 5 and 3 carries respectively in those games last year. Aston's numbers could've also been crazy. People are probably telling you they were the best show around for the last three years, not that they should've gone to 'Bama. You should know first hand though.

What you need to worry about is why Tray Williams got shut down against New Caney? If that's all he can get on us King will lose. Giving up over 600 combined yards to NCISD doesn't look too either. Hopefully both teams make it through healthy for the last game.
  9. We will never know the outcome of a Crosby vs Vidor non district game. Crosby is too scared to play Vidor after that whipping they gave them in the playoffs...lol

No disrespect, but I don't think Vidor is very high on anybody's list of non-district matchups. Crosby played two high profile games against perennial power Ned and an area top 10 matchup with Angleton. Crosby has only lost once in their last twenty regular season matchups so I highly doubt anybody's scared, just the higher-ups being cautious perhaps.

Like I told My Two three years ago, congrats, it will be your only playoff win for the next 5 years. Two years down and you dont have a win this season so I'm looking good on going 3-3 with that one. On a more serious note though, Vidor is the only team to beat Crosby in bi-district the last 6 years. Maybe you can celebrate that since you didn't get to celebrate your win?
  10. Dude PNG is only giving up 7 more ypg than humble. And since we're talking about strength of schedule let's talk about King playing a winless magnolia team....yeah that's really up there.

That's no different than Ned getting to play a winless Vidor or PNG getting 4A Chapel Hill and putrid Lee. Humble has better athletes than anyone in that district other than Central and would finish in no lower than 3rd place. I think we're something like 15-3 against y'all the last few years, obviously our strength of schedule gets us ready to hand out L's across the river. Overall there's more talent, better coaching and bigger enrollments over here which is probably the reason for the disparity.
  11. Seems like the only team that will have a definite playoff win over 22-5a is King based off the early numbers. I wanna see these numbers mid-october for both districts.

The only two teams that should give us trouble are PNG and Central but I think Central would have all sorts of issues with Humble's athleticism. I think Crosby, Dayton and King all win their first round matchups. I think Ned dropping 50 on another potential playoff team over there says a lot about the strength of that district after they were held in the 20's by the worst defense in our district. I know teams improve, but so do the ones over here.
  12. Humbles defensive numbers are no better than png. And yes King has insane offensive numbers but they are the only one. Ned, lumberton, and png all have offensive numbers that are as good as your number 2 offense (crosby)

Humble gives up less yards and over a td less per game than PNG. Crosby has played a tougher schedule than all of those teams except one PNG game against WOS. If Crosby had played Lumberton's schedule they would be averaging nearly 600 ypg on offense. And you can see the head to head yardage against Ned too, neither of their units are as good as Crosby's.
  13. Crosby hasn't played their best on Thursday nights in Turner and there's another cat fight on the horizon. They almost lost to KP in 2012 on Thursday night and played below average against Humble Thursday night before last. KP is salty on defense as usual and the Crosby offense has left some things to be desired in recent games. Crosby qb, Tristan Cotton, threw for over 300 yards with 4 tds last week and will need to have another good performance against KP and UTSA qb commit, Jaylon Henderson.

This is the last game before Crosby's bye week and their matchup with Dayton so I hope the Cougars can work out whatever kinks they need to and make it to the showdown on Crenshaw unblemished. Does Code Red keep rolling or does KP pull off the upset in front of the home crowd?

  14. I watched Ridge Point on tv the other night. Don't see anyone around this area beating them. They pretty dang good.

They are pretty good, but other than Marshall they're probably the most vulnerable. All 5 teams from over there play the same way, come at you with heavy doses of big time running backs and play stout defense. Ridge Point's back is a transfer from Dulles named Remus Bulmer who is a faster version of Austin Walter, but if you can limit his ypc Ridge Point's offense is very run of the mill.

I think Crosby, King and Central match up about as good as you can with those teams. Something I will be keeping a close eye on is how well Angleton(4-1) does in district against Foster and GR. That'll tell me a lot about how those teams deal with other physical downhill teams. GR already lost to Friendswood who plays like that but did beat Dawson. Elkins is likely the only team that will come through the regular season unbeaten.
