  1. Yep... and indoor plumbing too ... lol
  2. You guys must be youngsters.....In the real "back in the day" only one team went to the playoffs in everything.....You didn't play your way into the playoffs---you won your way in...
  3. Great finish!! Good job on the comeback. Been sitting on pins and needles waiting for an update...sounds like a much better 4th. I'm thinking they need to kick it up a notch in the next round...can't afford any more 1 point quarters....
  4. Can't tell you a whole lot, I'm more familiar with the girls programs (a friend of mine's daughter played on their state championship volleyball team a couple of years ago). They are usually well coached with good discipline. Athletically not overwhelming but not a bunch of cupcakes either. Should be much better than most of the district opponents EC faced. EC should be able to handle them but they are usually the kind you have to beat, don't generally beat themselves. Usually have a bunch of Polish kids, usually descent to good height and ball skills. Usually have at least one or two good shooters. Notice I said usually a lot. I haven't seen this specific group and don't "KNOW" much about them. My post is generalizations about the program and what can usually be expected from them based on what I have seen and heard over the past 5-6 years. Tried, but haven't been able to get ahold of my friend to get any "scoop" on this particular bunch.
  5. I hear from some West Texas friends that Permian may be looking west at the coach from Monahans. Don't know that they have any real inside information, but its one of the rumors floating out there.
  6. I will be on the road traveling to West Texas, but will be checking updates on my phone every chance I get. Go Newton!!
  7. Its what you do in the weight room that matters,. Doesn't matter if the weight room is a palace or a barn. Doesn't matter if its the biggest jumbotron in the state or the rustiest old scoreboard in the state. Its how many points you put on it. All the bling in the world don't make an ugly gal pretty and the pretty ones can shine without the bling---
  8. Caught a few 6 man games when I lived in West Texas. Fun game but a lot different than 11 man. You gotta be in shape and you better know how to open-field tackle. During the regular season this year a 6 man team played an 11 man team. They played 11 man first half and 6 man second half. Don't remember the 11 man school but I'm certain Throckmorton was the 6 man school. From the report of the game I read the 11 man team took the first half but Throckmorton played more than respectably, no big blowout. Second half was a different story, school was on and Throckmorton spanked 'em nasty. Read about it on Old Coach forum.
  9. As for Franklin's losses. Don't know anything about St Michaels, but Lexington is a good 2A DII team. They've been ranked pretty much all year. Spanked Refugio 2 years ago in the semis, got spanked by Refugio last year in the semis. I haven't been able to come up with much of anything on Franklin except whats been posted on here.
  10. Why not do it now? Then see if/how this years team shakes up the rankings.....
  11. Thanks to setxsports I will be listening to the broadcast down here in South Texas tonight.....GO BUCS!!!!!

  15. Finally back at the computer in South Texas. Not much you can say about this one except total domination by Newton in all phases of the game. Last week I saw Refugio kick an onside kick when they were up 35-0, go for a 4th and goal rather than kick a field goal when up 42-0, and throw a bomb to the endzone late in the fourth quarter when up 70-7. Nothing like that from Newton, just played hard clean football start to finish, starters or subs. Can't speak to Cameron Yoe's ranking visa vis Newton in the 2A Div1 polls, haven't seen them play, but I can guarantee you that those who vote Refugio ahead of Newton in the mixed 2A polls that don't separate Div 1 and Div 2 haven't seen both teams play. Newton is a more complete team than Refugio. By all appearances the coaches, players, and fans of both teams handled their respective success or lack thereof with grace and class. Interesting that the smack and spat on this thread is not between Newton and EC. Hope EC can put this one behind them and get back on track. Congrats Eagles and Geaux Bucs!!

  17. Im driving in from South Texas for this one. Sat through Refugio's butt whoopin' of Freer last week (my daughter is in the Freer band, dad had to be there) so I need to see some good football. As for picking the game, my heart is 100% backing the Bucs but I'm going to pick Newton in a close one. The reasons are: 1. Newton is undefeated vs 1 loss for EC 2. Newton seems to, overall, have handled common opponents a little easier. 3. Records against opponents they don't have in common don't tell me much, but I don't think HJ is good enough to say a loss to them by 6 or 7 is equall to big wins against Liberty and Kirbyville 4. Homefield I believe EC has a chance, even a good chance, but will have to play their best game thus far. See ya'll at the game.... GEAUX BUCS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
