Smithson Valley next week. Didn't Memorial play Smithson Valley in its first ever game?

I haven't posted anything in quite a while a while, but checking out the state playoff brackets I noticed something. Given that the southeast Texas teams in 5A D2 8 are now in region 2 instead of region 3 the following is highly unlikely but theoretically possible: Say PNG (since they are the furthest east of the 5A D2 8 teams) wins region 2 and a miracle happens in region 1 and an El Paso team wins region 1. You could have 2 teams well over 800 miles apart playing in the state semifinal game. Even if it were a team (still unlikely) from Amarillo it would be over 700 miles or Lubbock over 600 miles. It would also be unlikely but theoretically possible that the semifinal game for regions 3 and 4 could be 2 teams from San Antonio, literally a few miles apart. Just another interesting probably irrelevant observation for your consideration....

Longest- approx. 642 miles total trip all one day. Lubbock to Arlington to Winnie. Headed home for Christmas break and stopped in Arlington to watch PNG vs Plano 1977 state championship game. Second longest- approx 628 miles round trip all 1 day. Winnie to Arlington back to Winnie for 1980 state championship game TJ vs Permian. Labor day weekend I' going to Holiday for the Holiday vs Eastland game. One of my best friends is a coach at Holiday. That will be Beeville to Holiday approx 427 miles one way, 854 round trip, not all in one day.

EC 31 L21- half

Don't have to matchup with NW...Aademy won 70-68 in 2 ot. NW had double digit leads in both halfs. Academy clawed back in and NW went cold in 2nd ot.... Looks like Academy has one hoss... Franklin....i think #5, their numbers were hard to read.
