Instead of being productive at work I came across the PVIL website. I've always thought the PVIL was an important yet overlooked part of the football history of SETX and thought some of you might be interested in this. I knew PA Lincoln and Bmt Hebert had won PVIL state championships, but I didn't know how many or when. The PVIL website listed the state champions in football from 1940-1968. PVIL State Champions from area towns 1940-1968: Livingston Dunbar: 1A 1953, 1A 1954, 1A 1958 (state finalist 1A 1959) Baytown Carver: 2A 1955, 2A 1958, 2A 1961 Port Arthur Lincoln: 1949 2A (co-champs), 1953 3A, 1955 3A Orange Wallace: 1A 199, 2A 1954 Beaumont Hebert: 3A 1959 4A 1966 Galena Park Fidelity Manor: 1A 1957

Basketball is THE sport in Nazareth, always has been. Nazareth boys have won state a few times, but their girls have won more high school state championships than any team, in any sport, male or female in the country. Last week was number 22 if I recall correctly.

Records are relative. Kind of like coach of the year awards. Usually go to a coach who's team either won state or at least made a deep playoff run (there have probably been exceptions). The real coach of the year was probably some coach that no one heard about ,at a school no one thinks about, that didn't have squat to work with, that took a team that should of gone 0-fer or maybe a win or two and went 5-5 or 6-4..... I'm sure plenty will disagree, but some might agree....

Congrats Mustangs on a great season! A lot of people just wish their team had your record this year and over the past four seasons...hold 'em high....The winning streak might be over, but it will take more than a loss in the state championship game to put an end to the run of great seasons.

And thanks for the updates. Watched a few 6 man games when I lived in West Texas. Fun stuff. Whole different ballgame than 11 man, but can be highly entertaining.

Congrats to her. 2 for 2 so far....that's better than a lot of 11 man teams extra point kickers this year...LOL

I based the assumption of 16 districts that on two other assumptions: The UIL has historically stuck to 16 districts per classification. Fewer districts would mean smaller bracket/fewer playoff games/less money from playoffs...

Based on the number of schools in each division and given 16 districts in each division. It looks like a lot of 5-6 team districts. Those that don't like 5 team districts and were hoping for 7-8 team districts won't get their wish except maybe in 5A Avg number of teams in a district: 5A D1: 126 schools/16= 7.875= average, 7-8 team districts. 5AD2: 127 schools/16= 7.9375= average 7-8 team districts 4AD1: 93 schools/16= 5.8125= average 5-6 team districts. 4AD2: 90 schools/16= 5.625= average 5-6 team districts 3AD1: 106 schools/16= 6.625= average 6-7 team districts. 3AD2; 105 schools/16= 6.5625= average 6-7 team districts 2AD1; 94 schools/16= 5.875= average 5-6 team districts. 2AD2: 93 schools/16= 5.8125= average 5-6 team districts Have no idea how many districts there are in 1A....I just know it's different than the other classes. Obviously geography may dictate some districts that are larger or smaller than the average (it always does). Don't know that this post has any relevance, but I'm bored this morning and thought this might help when y'all start speculating about who's in what district.....LOL

I've no skin in this game. Have no opinion about what a combined school should be named....that's the people of Beaumont's business. That said, I thought I might a contribution based on the suggestion of hurricanes in black and silver: Logo: Silver helmet, Black outline of Texas, Dot (or make it a star) from the logo at Beaumont, Hurricane symbol around the dot (or star).... I'm not tech savvy enough to make a helmet and put it all together

NRG won't lay claim to anyone and you can't claim a stadium, you have to make it yours. PNG made the Astrodome their "Dome away from Home" because they played there often and won there often. Same thing with NRG...whoever gets there often and wins there often can claim it as their home away from home....everyone else can just be excited to be in the playoffs long enough to get to play in a pro stadium....

I've never really understood why the UIL uses a snapshot of enrollment on a particular day to determine school enrollment. It seems to me that more accurate enrollment figures, thus avoiding a situation such as occurred with Livingston last time, by using the TEA enrollment numbers. Schools don't understate their enrollment numbers when state funding is on the line....LOL. It seems like the enrollment numbers for state funding would be public information and relatively easy to access. Of course you would still have those high growth districts that would, because of that growth, have enrollments potentially larger than the cut-off number for their classification. Not sure there is any way to resolve that issue, but using the numbers for state funding might address the issue of under reporting enrollment numbers.
