We look good early in the season for the first time in a long time! Both sides are clicking and we can only get better from here! Big season ahead!!

Congrats Newton! Sounds like yall had some redzone problems like WOS. Those can be fixed. Hopefully well both have another long run this season.

Bryan Barbay addressed to the public this morning what has been known for a while in private. He has been asked to take over the day to day functions of Head Coach/Athletic Director on an interim basis at Newton. At QB Club meeting this morning he explained reasons he is back at Newton and exactly how things got to this point. He also mentioned that Coach WT Johnson came home from Houston yesterday evening and might make an appearance at the game tonight.

you know why I asked right?  I think the team is in good hands while W.T. takes however long he needs to get healthy, obviously his staff has things 100% under control

I was very impressed with the Eagles tonight. Offense and defense was very strong. 
I counted 5 Newton scores to 1 Kirbyville score but I was keeping up with some youngin's too so I may have missed one!

Aggrivated won't make this one,  I don't have radiation till 4pm today.  I trust championeagles and newton nation will give us an unbiased report on how it went.  

I hope next year this will be a regular season game. 

I went by the practice field Monday and took a few pictures and talked to the coaches. Newton has roughly 65 kids out for JV and Varsity which is pretty good numbers for us. I liked what I saw in coaching from Tabor Westbrook. Intense, demanding, yet taking time to teach as he goes. The players were kept busy moving from station to station with coaches teaching at each one. From what I saw I believe the players have stepped it up a notch this year in both attitude and intensity of work. Tanner Holmes will tag you. but so will some others. Blake Kelley seems to be picking up where he left off last year and that is good news. Barbay at quarterback is throwing the ball well. Kirbyville comes over Friday evening for a scrimmage. Should be interesting.

I saw a clip this week where an Eagle defender, I think it was Tanner Holmes, just LAID OUT one of his teammates in the drill.
I think these guys are getting ready to march on Houston.

​Along with the explanation AAW made, also remember that SETXsports already has a presence at those games as Bobby Fillyaw and John Meek will be broadcasting all games, regular season and playoffs.

​What is the old adage about counting chickens before they hatch?  You should never underestimate a team lead by HC/AD Jimmy Thompson...especially a team that went as deep as they did last year when they weren't even expected to make the playoffs..not to mention the additional time he has had with them since.  I am not one for predicting the future, but I do expect you to be a little surprised at the team you face this year in their home stadium.  You will definitely know you've been in a football game once the clock ticks to zero...no matter the outcome. As UTFan mentioned..maybe Newton "shouldn't" lose to Crockett, but to use the old cliche...stranger things have happened.
