  1. Spurger is DivI Finally found the alignments on the UIL site.Cayuga is in Region3 this year Div 1 so a Spurger matchup would have to come at the state tourney.
  2. If you're in Iraq you can back anyone you want to.Thanks for all you guys do.
  3. I think Anahuac has to be the favorite. The rest of the clubs you mentioned are all pretty even and there will be one pretty good club on the outside looking in.The best race is gonna be on the other end of the standings between Deweyviile,Kountze and Warren these 3 are almost a dead heat but will at least make for some interesting ball games.
  4. Hey stats guru H-D has lost two games not three. [/quoteExcuse me there double nickle it was a typo.I predicted a bobcat win I thought that would be enough. geez!!
  5. I'm not sure, help us out here court side.
  6. I think they are in this region.I think them and Spurger would have a very entertaing ball game.We may get to see that matchup for a trip to the drum.
  7. I'm more surprised at Barnes than I am Brown.I didn't think JCovan would get a shot after his antics when Barnes was recruiting him.I hope Brown can stay eligible because classes at the 40 acres can be tough.
  8. Most teams that run it don't have a strong post player, that's why there in it to start with. They won't give up a ton of rebounds because they usually don't rebound real well anyway.Warren ran it some a few years back when Hand was down here. They shot the ball pretty well and won quite a few ball games running it.High school ball is all about match ups and personell and if your kids are good shooters it can work well.
  9. I heard from a friend they had 5 D1 football recruits who also play basketball. That's unheard of at a 1-a school.
  10. Neither club is playing great so far. Both clubs need a win after starting 0-3 so I'm going with the home team to win this one. It's hard to keep up with the Brey events, one week he is a top recruit for UCLA and the next thing you hear their waitng for him to complete his AEP to become eligible. HD-20 Kountze-14
  11. I didn't say a 2 man team.I was talking about the type sets they ran to get these 2 guys the ball.I wasn't saying they didn't play as a team.I usually watch clubs and try and see what different kinds of things they could do to be better.I just happen to think that this club has a TON of potential that could be used in different ways.If what the Sharks are doing suits you guys that's what you need to keep doing. As far as other clubs in this region Normangee will be good as always and I hear Cayuga is loaded with big time athletes again.
  12. You can't blame the kids for wanting to play for a good program.Unfortunately most think that's the first step to the next level when in fact there aren't a ton of college players out there.
  13. I heard the flu bug bit the Lady Warriors.Congrats to all the clubs, now it should be district time.
  14. I'm not saying they score inside.I'm saying the games I saw them play last year most of their points came at around the 15 ft range. There are tons of sets to get the ball in there hands at that range. The games I saw them play including Spurger and the Normangee playoff game I didn't see a 6'4 post player.I have never believed in playing a position just because of their size.Carlos and Jones seemed to play a 2 man game last year and are both tremendous scorers but I still believe for the Sharks to advance in the playoffs they will need to tweak their lineup. At any rate that's just my opinion good luck to SP this year and to Spurger,I'll definitely be in the stands when you guys play to watch some good basketball.
  15. Woodville- 21 Warren-0 1st quarter(where's a lightning storm when you need one?) : :
  16. I'll be yelling for the Warriors but the Eagles win this one by at least a couple of TD'S.If the weather is bad maybe it will hold the score doen.
  17. Usually your post are jumped on by the masses so I sit back and enjoy the banter. The Whittacre kid from Spurger wouldn't be a post player at a big school but he is around 6'3 or 6'4 around 215 and can jump out of the gym.He has a very good touch on his shot and is pretty strong. He is a junior this year and is one you will here a lot about on the small school scene this year.
  18. They are the best 2 shooters on the club but they usually shoot the ball from 12 to 15 ft and their are tons of sets you could get the the ball in that area and still have them close enough to rebound the ball as well.If you put a second team post from last year in the starting line up you don't get any better this season and you have one of your top 5 players on the bench. In 1-a basketball you need your best personell on the floor and then their are a playbook full of ways to take advantage of your scorers.
  19. I wouldn't want to get in a debate with the master.I may even know a little about the game myself ;D ;D
  20. We usually put in at Hansens and idle up to the fish pass. The bulk heads on both sides just before you get to the highway bridge will load up with flounder this fall.A lead head jig in white tipped with shrimp will do the trick.Like I said the boat we fish out of here is a 16 ft CC aluminum but it's not a junker by any stretch we just don't get in any big hurry when we're in Keith Lake. The next time I put in at Esthers I' ll PM you some GPS cordinates on where we catch our specks,we usually catch them on shad fished on a Carolina Rig.I like to go out there real early and fish to about daylight at times it can be awesome.
  21. I usually don't even reply to your post but I think you'll be surprised at Spurger this year.I watch a ton of 1-a thru 3-a school ball and Spurger will be legit.HJ will return Turner who is one of the fastest defenders in this area at any classification. They will be very well coached and will find some folks to fill the holes left by Bernard and Burrell.Don't sleep on Spurger this year though Dickie. They will have a pure shooter on the wing,a very capable kid in McGallion at the point and a kid at the post who is as solid as any of the small school players in this area.I didn't say Spurger would win this matchup,I said it would make an interesting warm up game and it would.
  22. This is my point exactly.Jones and Carlos both have some size for a 1-a club. They would be my 4 and 5.Wasson,Nguyen and Cruthirds round out your starting group and you have your best 5 players on the floor. You won't have a ton of depth on a 1-a club so you have to find a way to keep your better players on the floor.#3 can score and complimentJones and Carlos but all this group needs to be a complete club is someone to put pressure on the "D".I quess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, best of luck to all the guys in this district this year.I'll definitely come check out these games. Here's my prediction for the upcoming year. (1) Spurger- They could easily be in the regional tournament this year. (2) Sabine Pass-Will challenge the pirates and finish a close second. (3) Hull Daisetta-Will have some pretty good athletes and a solid coach. (4) Evadale-Folks leaving and some not playing, not a good start for a club trying to get back to the playoffs. (5) High Island-Not quite enough fire power to compete with the top dogs in this district.
  23. I certainly wouldn't put High Island and Spurger in the same category.Spurger would have some interesting matchups with the Hawks this year.Blankenship may be the best kept secret in this area when it comes to shooters and Whittacre can hold his own in the paint.Assuming both clubs make the playoffs (and they will)I would pay to see this game as a warmup.
  24. The Warren girls look to be playing very well since school started.I'm not sure what their record is but they have only lost 1 game this season in the grapeland tourney. Not sure how these brackets are set up but a Warren/Woodville final would probably be the tourney championship.
  25. If they lost Davis it's another long year for the Hornets.
